I’m starting to see Starfield ads on YouTube. Nice!
I was thinking about what People Can Fly could be working on, since it’s supposed to be an Xbox IP, and my mind kept going to Crackdown. I know some of us bring up Crackdown as joke to annoy people, but I can’t help but think that a Crackdown game from People Can Fly could be pretty fun.
Watched a new video by Matty and he covers all kinds of stuff, most stuff is about Matt Booty. In a recent interview he talked about Arkane Austin and said that Redfall is getting “good play” on Game Pass and he’s not writing it off. It was a miss he said, but how much of a miss? Said he wants to support them to be able to keep working to deliver the game they had in mind. "
Personally I wonder if they can ever really get it at that point, because they wanted to either have it canned or rebooted into SP only (as per Jason) but we’ll see.
And then it goes into a bit about how fans of Arkane Austin hope the studio will stay open despite the game’s initial reception, Booty said “that is the plan right now. They are hard at work on updates and continued content for Redfall.”
Their previous game was in 2017 and sadly didn’t perform well commercially, a damn shame. And now this. I just hope Austin gets a chance at a brand new game. This whole subject of shutting down and what not, that’s not what you want to hear at all. But he was asked and he answered. I probably should not get too hung up on the “right now.”.
I personally hope that they’ll move on to their next project sooner than later, because again, I highly doubt that initial vision for the game can be reached now. And hopefully they grow, because if that’s true what Jason said about the amount of people that left, fuck.
What do you mean by joke?
The “right now” part is a bit concerning. Hopefully they come up with a pitch for a new game that wows the decision makers.
I think this is being taken out of context. Also, Arkane Austin is not under Matt Booty’s supervision.
Let’s not forget that there are multiple job openings for Arkane Austin right now - not the sign of a studio being shut down
Why would they shut them down anyway? At worst they’d probably become a support studio for Lyon or something but I don’t see that happening either
They’ll work a bit on Redfall and move onto something new, if they havn’t started already, hopefully on something they actually want to make this time
Congrats to the team Really wish I could get over my issues with how the controls feel but I think I’d definitely jump in for a sequel.
This.
Man how I wish their games had been on Game Pass from day one. I am willing to bet the install base for IP such as Prey, Dishonored and so on would have been way larger. Now that they are Xbox I really hope they get to make something they truly want to make themselves, this time it will be on GP day one, just like Redfall is.
That’s good. Hopefully for a brand new game and not for Redfall updates. At some point they gotta leave it, maybe a small group updating it and done.
That sounds like a common disclaimer phrase that every executive is sure to say as part of every statement they make. You could ask them how the weather is and they’d likely say “The weather is nice, right now.” Or ask how their day is and get “My day is good, right now”.
Considering that everything they say is brought up and used against them at a later date, it’s no wonder so many executives use lawyer speak.
How on earth do you show footage of a game that isn’t even ALpha…Bad mistake from them imo. You didn’t need to show anything.
If they didn’t show anything people would bitch and moan and clickbait articles would spin the narrative that the game was in “trouble”. Hell I heard certain Youtubers flat out say that if it didn’t show up they would assume something was wrong.
Frankly I am sick of hearing the bitching and moaning over graphics with this game anyway. Game looks just fine for what it is, if it’s pre alpha , even better. This is fucking Obsidian we’re talking about not Naughty Dog or Playground games… I don’t play their games for cutting edge “cinematic” graphics, it’s all about the gameplay.
If only I had more than one like to give.
Game looked good. If it’ll improve in the future, even better.
What some people didn’t like won’t change. It was mostly:
-
Not showing the RPG elements of the game: That is a choice made by the studio and has nothing to do with the current state of the game.
-
The style of the game and characters: That’s the style that they went with, and will not change in alpha, beta or the final product.
Other than that, personally, I don’t think will change much. The studio showed what they think is a good representation of their game, and didn’t even put the usual disclaimers (game still under development, etc)
Avowed looked great to me and im looking forward to playing it next year.
so with next gen to start around 2028 and Phil saying elder scrolls 6 is 5+ years away that means it could likely come out in year 1-2 of the next console.
That being said I would very much like it and other big games to not be cross gen. My thought is 1) focusing on next gen only allows games to not be held back and 2) it allows for better optimization/less technical issues since focus isn’t split between many consoles.
What are the chances that Microsoft doesn’t make cross gen games in the traditional sense. Instead they release natively only on the new console, and choose to stream those games. to series s/x.
Is that not feasible to do in 2028, and if not why. Or is it just a bad idea, and if so why.
Edit- series s/x could essentially become the streaming box that Microsoft has toyed around with releasing.
I think it’s almost guaranteed that ES6 is built on the same technology that Starfield is running on and cross gen simply makes sense to attract a large console and PC base.
