Just watched the IGN interview with Todd Howard, was awesome.
Story expansion confirmed, lots of content after launch confirmed. All great stuff.
It’s clear that this game is humongous, and that can be seen in the development time too, also upgraded engine, must have cost extra time. I wonder how many years away from TES VI we could be now. Because that game in terms of scope may not be as big as Starfield, and that’s fine too, I would be OK with that. But it’s impossible to know, I don’t even think Todd knows.
Kinda sad to hear Phil said, Xbox don’t really need Halo to be the flagship barrier franchise anymore.
I think to revive interest in Halo again. I think it’s time to switch it up. A Halo RPG with full body customization, ships, planets, etc… How Starfield is doing it, would generate major interest again.
I know it won’t happen though, unless Bethesda want to work on Halo RPG. No other dev can make that kind of game. It’s just wishful thinking, but i have seen this happen before with major flagship franchise making the switch to different style. Example is God of War. Although not a big of a switch as if Halo were to go full RPG open world BGS style. God of War was a hack and slash, and turn into over the shoulder camera 3rd person action adventure.
I think Halo need to make the switch. Arena shooter ain’t popular no more. Even if not going full RPG open world. A switch to maybe single player only focus 3rd person Halo story driven, might bring some new life into Halo again.
Usually what BGS seams to do is focus on one game at a time. Once a game ships their next game goes into pre-production while the majority of the staff work on dlc for 1-2 years. I think this is part of the reason that they have so much time between releases.
I’m hopefully that ES6 isn’t gunna wait 2 years to really get going. Because that would mean a 2029-2030 release probably. I hope they already have a decent amount of people working on it so it can be out in 2026/2027.
Staffing them up so they can have two powerhouse singleplayer rpg teams should be a priority.
Halo should not try to be the all-one-do-everything, it is just a pass for failure. I vote for some different teams addressing side stories and MP separately. The problem is that the engine is too complex and does not push for subcontracting. a Shift to U5 would help the game to grow over multiple teams.
There is no rush to do everything. Xbox has a slate of big games coming so 343 has time to develop everything. If the coalition could manage, I’m sure 343 could.
Half the problem with halo infinite was the management team and the engine for the open world.
@Klobrille is great, a truly great part of the community and you can tell it by how well like and respected he is by the people who actually work in it.
Personally, if it was up to me, I would already be telling Todd Howard and BGS that TES VI is a next generation only game. Launch 2028 or later. I wouldn’t force it for this generation.
