Xbox Game Studios |OT10| Here are the games

I hate that kind of stuff. You can take what people didn’t like but still continue the story and just do better and adjust instead of essentially retconning everything. It’s just sloppy and disjointed.

It’s weird. The Banished were a good enemy in Halo Wars 2 and the lore was decent. But none of that was in Infinite. It’s like they wanted to make it feel like Halo 1 where you are just tossed into the middle of the conflict but just having an incredible amount happen between 5 and Infinite where they tell you nothing and suddenly this Covenant force is able to completely wreck humanity in what feels like seconds is just…baffling. I get disliking the AI revolution but dropping it suddenly like it never happened was just awful. Especially cause the game starts setting up ANOTHER new alien species. I absolutely love Halo but I feel like narratively they really need to figure out wtf they are doing, find a plot line and stick with it. The back and forth and just dropping of shit just doesn’t work. Infinite was close to being such a special game but there were just some big glaring issues that really really hurt it, and it’s such a let down.

Locke may have been a bit of a bust in the end but i always felt 343 should have kicked off their trilogy with Locke or whoever. Bungie pretty much wrote off Chief and Cortana perfectly at the end of an awesome trilogy. Yes it would have been something of a risk and easy to say in hindsight but to really put their stamp on things 343 probably should have introduced a Spartan of their own and taken the story in a different direction, be it far into the future or whatnot, rather than somewhat trying to carry on from where Bungie left off.

I know i said this is easy to say in hindsight but given how things have ended up with the series now, I don’t think them doing that could’ve ended up any worse than where we are today in terms of Halo from a campaign point of view (i.e. with a chunk of the campaign team sadly laid off). I wouldn’t say i’m super engaged with the current story but it’s so hard to get invested if again we’re looking at another story reboot because they didn’t end up following through with their story thread.

I’m inclined to agree. I don’t think people had an issue specifically with Locke as a character as much as just problems with that campaign in general. There was a way to end Master Chief’s story and pass the torch to a new protagonist but that wasn’t it.

And of course, because that story thread didn’t hit right away we got the Halo Infinite story of “Locke? Guardians? AI rebellion? Never heard of em.”

Halo 7 will surely pivot away from the Banished to some new thing, yet again.

Damn Phil what are you doing!!! Even more people leaving for…

Oh…

I think that Halo 4 is the perfect jumping off point for their story, but they should have kept going with the Storm Covenant. My remaining is Instead of Jul being killed off in a cut scene on the first mission, Halo 5 should have been a race too the Guardians.

Chief and Blue team chasing Jul down, as he looks to activate the Guardians as the Didacts hand. With the game ending with Jul dead but the Guardians now on the side of the Storm Covenant. With this force on their side the Storm Covenant would be able to push the UNSC and the Swords of Sanghelios to the same point as in Halo Infinite.

Infinite then could have been about Chief and either a group of Spartan 4s or Blue team, making their way to the Halo after learning of both a control center and a key to controlling or stopping the guardians. The key can turn out to be Cortana having reach metastability, with whatever the librarian did to her in 4. The control center than becomes the last area in Infinite, where the Spartans need to deliver Cortana.

Of course, it’s easy to say after everything has been said and done, but I guess when actually putting things together the sort of pressure that can come from everyone involved can cause issues.

Jul is a weaker villain than Atriox but there should have been a game before Infinite. Having Atriox be “dead” for the entire game is such a damn waste.

I’m still tempering my expectations, because I don’t want to overhype this show to such unrealistic proportions. Not to sound like a negative Nancy, but I am still on the fence with Fable being shown, but I am slowly warming up to it being there but I am overall still on the fence.

HOWEVER, and not to fanboy war but with covid pandemic being about over with the “floodgates” when it comes to Xbox 1p games is basically wide open. And anti-Xbox people are going to eat their words and Playstation maybe in trouble. Yea Phil and co may have slipped and fell these past couple of years but the fact is we always knew games were coming. Xbox has way too much firepower(studios) at its disposal and this showcase may potentially be the realization of that. And based off Sony’s showcase 2024 and maybe 2025 maybe be bad years for PS fans as it seems to be that Sony released most their heavy hitters early and the AAA development takes years and years now. We don’t even know whats in the pipeline for them. Meanwhile these unreleased Xbox games have been in development since 2018, 2019 and 2020 and its A LOT of them. So yea this showcase may be the realization that the floodgates have been busted open.

Lastly, Elder Scrolls IP is literally Xbox’s joker card just waiting… I truly believe Xbox can catch up to Playstation.

But he does have a much better back story and a imo a better reason to want to destroy humans. Also he would still die in Halo 5 in my mind, just at the end setting up the commanders from Infinite but as part of the Storm Covenant not The Banished.

Maybe. Jul was the most boring villain in the series for me.

the originals are on sale

I found this excellent video by Games Talk. He goes over each Xbox studio’s output and debunks the myth of ‘mismanagement’.

The reality: Games take time to make.

If the rumours about ZOS making a Star Wars/Mandalorian MMO are true (IF!), it would put this news about SWTOR into context. I have to imagine Lucasfilm will want a new (and multiplatform) Star Wars MMO ASAP.

I thought it was an original IP? But if they’re making a Star Wars MMORPG I hope it’s an EU based one. As they have a lot more stuff to work with, as well as being able to add to the EU without needing to worry about the Disney Canon.

A new Star Wars MMO would almost certainly be canon. Even if it’s not canon (like Star Wars: Visions), it definitely wouldn’t be based on the EU.

And yeah, they’ve said it’s a AAA new IP, but it could be considered a new IP in the way that EA consider Star Wars Jedi a franchise unto itself.
