Head Bob and camera shake are an automatic switch off for me.
Motion blur and chromatic aberration whenever a game allows me to do so.
Yeah, they are one of the few out there that really think about stuff like this. How they treated spiders in grounded for instance was also really nice.
Wonder if reviewers will knock some points off Redfall for 30FPS, because it would be ridiculous, I didn’t see a single reviewer complaining about the bad performance mode in Star Wars and tbh I actually never see them complaining about performance in any game, but somehow I suspect they will go hard on Redfall for lack of 60FPS and good lord even worse on Starfield if it’s the case, although 30FPS in Starfield would make sense and should be excused.
Every single review I read/watched called out Jedi’s performance. It’s just that the game is still amazing despite that so it didn’t dramatically affect the scores.
It also depends whether reviewers are playing on Xbox or PC for Redfall, as PC won’t have the FPS issue (in theory). I’m optimistic that the quality of the game will shine through.
Redfall’s reception is no longer a concern to me. If it seems like the type of game I want to play I’ll pick it up on sale, if its somehow a masterpiece scoring 9s across the board I’ll buy it on release. Far too much overspeculation for what is essentially a Farcry game set in boston with vampires roaming around.
Watching this forum turn on Arkane is hilarious. “Core” gamers are extremely fickle.
Core gamers are the worst.
I hope I don’t turn like them when new Forza Horizon is released
I started playing NBA 2k23 on Steam deck because I’ve just been bored playing the hardcore games and felt like I’m being stuck in an endless cycle of attempting to race through my backlog. Games like Grounded, Fallout 76, Minecraft and Sea of Thieves are needed in a first party because the casual audience gravitates toward familiar and comfortable game experiences that can optionally be played with friends and be played after work everyday in comfort. This is why sports games, Call of Duty, Destiny, Fortnite and other battle royals are popular. You become familiar with the gameplay loop and generally end up getting better at the games the more you play.
Let Arkane do what they want with Redfall then move onto the next project. DLC never happened for Deathloop so I expect Arkane Lyon to have a game fully in development at the moment. If its Deathloop 2, it better be much better than the first game because the AI in the first one ruined the experience for me after like 15-16 hours in. I was saying Deathloop was a 10/10 initially but its really more of a 6 or 7. The multiplayer doesn’t even run well in Deathloop, Ghost Recon on 360 had a better connection than Deathloop in 2023. Dishonored 1 was great but Dishonored 2 took a ridiculous amount of time to actually run on any PC because it was completely botched at launch, and still kind of is botched but if you have a powerful CPU it now runs at 60+. Never got updated for the modern hardware either, that game desperately needs a Series X patch.
Arkane has always had serious technical problems and its something that needs to be worked on internally at their studio. They shouldn’t get an excuse just because their games are artsy and unique.
The realities of development are not the same thing as “technical issues” lol
Redfall is also not the game it was supposed to launch as, item store is gone, they’re working on getting rid of always online, to remove the tethering and allowing everyone to advance the main story while playing together. Add to the fact this is the 2nd game with an online component that Arkane has made(first for this team) with a much higher demand for good net code because it’s expected that people will be able to play this game together from beginning to end, not just some invasion like in deathloop.
I’m not saying give them a pass because of not getting 60fps on launch, be disappointed, but actually understand that things have changed and try to not throw them under a bus like the ponies have been doing. And be glad this game isn’t going to be another Fallout 76 at launch.
The game is already not tethered. All four players can go anywhere on the map at any time.
Also, Arkane have not said anything about changing the story progression only being tied to the host. All they’ve said is that 60fps is coming post-launch and they are looking into removing always online.
Every review a read complained about the performance issues.
People aren’t turning on Arkane, they just don’t have the interest in this game as they do their other games. Just because you like a studio, doesn’t mean you have to be blindly loyal to everything they do.
Oh nah, they are turning on them. And we’ll have to wait and see how much people they do or do not have in the game.
Love when people misconstrue what I say because they feel attacked lol. If it doesn’t apply to you or “people” why are you responding to me?
Most native next gen games will be 30fps I feel anyway so people will probably need to accept it, for alot of cinematic games at least.
Thats where I see it going too, which is disappointing as they kind of pushed that this gen 60fps would be pushed as the standard. As long as they put in work to make 30fps look great (RDR2 for example) and not just have it just be a PC game running 30fps on consoles it should be fine.
Hellblade 2 WILL be 30fps and we need to accept that now.
They are one of the devs though that would be putting in the effort to make 30fps look great though with strong animations and other things. Being third person helps too.
