Never going to happen. The issue isnt that Redfall should be delayed. The issue is MS has a game for virtually every month of the year hence:
June - Diablo + Crash Team Rumble
July - Ara
August - Age of Empires 4
September - Starfield
October - Forza Motorsport
November - Call of Duty
Cant put it anywhere else but May and December. And a 6 month delay is not worth the 6 weeks it will take for a patch vs. Having a month gap with no releases
Not sure I agree with Klobrille saying second class citizens. This is a unfortunate situation, sure. The real “next gen” is slow to start for Xbox, we only get a few games this year and it’s perfectly normal that people expected Redfall to be a 100% complete product, especially after that year delay. But it is what it is.
What other examples are there of Xbox being treated as second class? We know Starfield is the real big one this year and that engineers are helping out for optimization. Turn10 with Forza, well, we trust in Turn10.
I didn’t read the whole thread, but what else did he mean?
I do think they were in a tricky position when it came to delaying it - with over a year without a major AAA release and a lengthy delay already for this title adding another delay on top of it can’t have been what Microsoft wanted - especially if Arkane felt confident they could make it to launch with 30fps ready.
Plus with game pass I wonder if there’s less need for absolutely everything to be available at launch. It’s a subscription service after all, people who want to wait for 60fps will still have access to it when the update comes out.
This Redfall situation really brought out some of the all time worst takes for this gen so far
Just finished listening to Jez and Rand’s podcast and some of the questions and superchats they got about Phil, Game Pass and Redfall were so painful to listen to
I dunno if there’s really such a simple solution as that - If you want studios to have creative freedom to make what they want to make, get the time they need to make a game right and to avoid crunch then roadbumps like this is going to happen.
What Microsoft should maybe do is just aim for a shorter announcement to release schedule so that any delays end up relatively minor overall.
Definitely, none of this would matter nearly as much if they had had a stronger 2022, and none of this will matter nearly as much once 2022 is further along and they have more first party titles out.
Yeah, I think this is correct. Games are what matters in the end, and once we get used to first party releasing all the time people can stop being so anxious all the time.
I hate when people compare PC Game Pass with Xbox Game Pass For Console like one are competitor of other, one is made for a pc user, other is made for a console user. Simple
