Xbox Game Studios |OT10| Here are the games

Even if the only games Xbox announced for the next two years were smaller AA ones, with the sheer number of already announced AAA games on the slate then i dont think anyone has anything to worry about in regards to the number of bangers that Xbox is goint to put out over the next few years.

This. No one, well not many, will subscribe to Indie-Pass so we’ll get all kinds of games including big ass AAA.

That would not be worrying but rather welcome. Games don’t need hundreds of millions of dollars to entertain and impress me, like this year we got Norco, Return to Monkey Island, Pentiment, Grounded or Tunic without a AAA budget but also all without the pitfalls of ‘modern’ AAA game design like nagging NPCs which spoil puzzles.

Just give me more games like Pentiment, pretty please!

Balance, always. A good balance of smaller games and big is always great. And even the smaller games can be quite long. Pentiment is anything but short.

Speaking of, anyone that enjoys a adventure game but especially a fucking good, interesting story with choices that truly matter owes it to themselves to play it. During E3 I was like “meh, doesn’t look like it will be my game.” but ever since I started playing I’ve been hooked. I play nothing else. Even yesterday night when I would normally quit gaming and watch something before sleeping in couldn’t put it down.

I’m already super curious what Sawyer does next.

VERY excited to see what Coalition are working on next.

Holy shit the artwork is awesome, now I really want a game of that!

Officially we only know that a smaller project is up next and then Gears 6 right?

But seeing that artwork makes me wish that TC will make a new, and big IP some day.

The artwork really is incredible and I am already hyped for the Coalition’s next game. It looks like an exploration survival game where you can recruit animals to help you.

I think it is the smaller project first then it is Gears 6 but I’m not sure.

Definitely as much as I love Gears I do hope that the Coalition can split up into two teams one day where there is one team working on Gears and another team working on new IP’s.

Can’t wait!

Yep those are some beautiful pieces of artwork indeed, great stuff!

IIRC the smaller project will come out first since The Coalition is using it also as a test bed for UE5. Also if Gears 6 is a 2024 title that would mean that it will be ~5 years in development which will be the longer development time for the team. I expect great things from The Coalition this generation.

From the XCast interview (after 55:00) about what’s next, seems like Josh Sawyer doesn’t know if he wants to return to AAA production (or at least it’s not in his mind yet, he also mentionned again the concept of the bike shop simulator game and a tactical game set in the the Pillars of Eternity universe. But he doesn’t say no to a big project). He also talked about Fallout and potential settings

Josh Sawyer revealed in a recent interview that he loves the Fallout franchise and may work on another game in the future if the stars align.**

Josh Sawyer did not say “no” when asked if he would consider working on another Fallout game. Quite the contrary, the director of Pentiment , which is a masterpiece and you should play it, says he loves the post-apocalyptic franchise and can see himself working on it again in the future.

“I love Fallout, I love the setting, I could see myself working on it again but you know, we’ll see where the future takes me,” Sawyer told Kinda Funny Games.

When asked about what his favourite setting for a Fallout game would be, Sawyer said California or the Mid-west would be interesting but explained that the setting has to be something that he and the team are passionate about and has to make sense for the franchise.

“California or the Midwest would be very interesting. Obviously, I have to be passionate about it as a Director but also that the team is really excited about and also that works within the larger idea of the IP,” he said.

Sawyer went on to explain that working on someone else’s franchise is different since it has to fit in the larger vision of “what is Fallout” and that he doesn’t get to decide everything about that.

Additionally, he mentioned that the ideas of having a Fallout game outside of the US are interesting too, before concluding that there are lots of cool opportunities for the new Fallout game and that [his involvement] depends on the moment and what the team looks like.

Obsidian Entertainment CEO Feargus Urquhart said previously that the studio would love to make another Fallout game if the opportunity arises. He said that after the studio releases Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2, they will obviously look at what’s next for them and Fallout could be on that list.

“Of course, if we ever got the opportunity to make another Fallout game, we’d make it”, Urquhart said. *“At some point, we’ll start looking into what those next games are going to be, and I would be surprised if Fallout is not on that list.”

Several months ago, reliable industry insider Jeff Grubb revealed that certain people at Xbox have started mentioning the words Obsidian Entertainment and New Vegas 2 in the same sentence.

“This is very early, but people have begun to have talks and say these words in sentences, and those words are ‘Obsidian’ and ‘New Vegas 2’,” Grubb revealed.

Where did you get that? Concept art stuff? I’m not sure that’s necessarily indicative of anything.

The Coalition have all the right pieces for a new IP, big AAA blockbuster action game for Xbox. Gears reboot, smaller new IP, and AAA new IP, this is what I’m hoping for an amazing Coalition output this generation.

I just want Starcraft Ghosts from The Coalition

Very exciting. I know it’s an unpopular opinion, but I really hope this studio begins to transition away from Gears.

It’s a smaller project, which initially lowered my excitement a little. Small makes me think it will be very short too, but that doesn’t necessarily have to be the case. Pentiment is a small game too, compared to the big dogs, so to speak. But it’s far from a short game. The budget of the smaller game probably just isn’t on Gears levels.

Exciting that Gears 6 will have been significantly longer in development than their previous games. It’s needed too, 5 was good but it ended abruptly. Felt like there had to be at least one more act.

Very nice! Thank you for sharing.

That would be fantastic, yes! Of all the “old” studios TC is undoubtedly the most tech savvy, some would say they are Xbox’s Naughty Dog. Gears can continue and I’m sure it will, but if the teams can split that would be great. If that doesn’t happen I would very much be in favor of giving Gears a break for a while after 6 releases.

Agreed. Let’s see what their immense talent can bring us that isn’t Gears. Only so much can be done for Gears that is new, without ruining it (Judgment).

I know concept art isn’t indicative of it what the game will be until we actually see gameplay for it but that’s my takeaway from what the concept art is showing. Which would be cool to see if it turns out to be true.

I don’t think the Coalition should abandon the Gears universe since I do think there could be more that could be told. But I do think that the Coalition should come to a conclusion to the Gears storyline and focus on a different set of characters.

Same thing with Halo as much as I love Master Chief I would like to see Halo focus on a different storyline with a new set of characters in the future.

Yeah it’s a very cool concept and setting.

That’s completely ridiculous. Sawyer saying Pentiment wouldn’t exist due to Game Pass is because vast majority of publishers would never green light a game like it because of the monetary risk. With Game Pass, Microsoft can approve these smaller AA titles because they’re not dependent or reliant on individual game sales.

Staying with my prediction for The Game Awards - Perfect Dark gameplay teaser trailer.

Personally, I would like to see The Coalition expand into two full sized teams. One for Gears 6 and then a new Gears trilogy with the characters from Hivebusters.

Then a second team that creates a new IP that hopefully becomes a new franchise/series.
