Pentiment is certainly one of the most striking and intelligent games I have ever made in my life such a masterpiece

Starting to see some folks on social media having worries that in the long term XGS will offer less AAA “bangers” and more games like Pentiment. I guess people already forgot about Starfield, Redfall, Hellblade 2, Fable, Avowed, and so on?

It’s absolutely possible that Sawyer will make something like Pentiment again, which is fine, if he wants to do that. As much as I would love to see his skills for a AAA game though. But in no way does this mean lesser AAA games.

It’s all replies to Saywer saying if not for Game Pass, no Pentiment.

Like Saywer said, Game Pass grants opportunity for other projects that doesn’t necessarily have to be AAA or your standard genre alas non-niche game. It would be dull if we keep seeing the same type of game if no one is granted to explore.

Agreed. The beauty of Xbox’s future is the diversity of games, AA games like Pentiment and Belfry, but also AAA like Starfield, Redfall and so on.

I guess people just want some bigger games on Game Pass by XGS and that will be next year. Any kind of worries should go away then, because just because Sawyer is not that interested in those huge projects, doesn’t mean other studios don’t have a passion to actually go for the bigger stuff.

People will always find something to worry about. First the Game Pass game was only GaaS and multiplayer, now it’s experimental AA games.

That’s true. But I don’t think this person was acting in bad faith though.

I was talking to one of them and he said his long term worry is that as AAA game development gets more expensive that it won’t be feasible for Game Pass anymore. It’s true that it indeed has become more expensive and probably will only increase but do you think it could become an issue?

We’ve already had many AAA games on the service and they can’t possibly have been cheap to make, how much “worse” could it get in terms of AAA game development becoming more expensive?

Rising cost of game development is a problem whether you have a subscription service or not. There is a reason that Sony is expanding into PC and focusing a lot more resources on MP/GaaS.

Yes, very good point.

Bet on VGA reveal.

Ultimately with Game Pass they will need to attract and retain customers as their number one priority. If that requires AAA games then we’re getting AAA games.

Keeping a subscriber over a generation generates more revenue than the average gamer spends buying games in a generation.

God people can’t go a day without coming up with something worry about. The simple fact is AAA games are important to growth and they have and will continue to have a lot of them, it’s literally easily researchable. Big content is essential to subscription services and is the most of spend. The bigger Game Pass gets, the more AAA it will continue to offer.

Things can go so smoothly when you have the right team for the job. :sunglasses:

Great news seeing things are going well! I’d love to see a new (even CGI) trailer at TGA showing the general look and feel that they are going for gameplay wise.

I don’t think multiple CGI trailers does anyone any favours. One CGI trailer to announce it, then wait until gameplay is ready before we see it again.
