Well, both Deathloop and Dishonored supposed to be in the same world? Not sure about Redfall though.
Just no psycho enemies please?! I feel like my brain hurts when I’m trying to recollect what game is what at times.
Earthfall, Battleborn, Second Extinction, Rage 2, Borderlands, The Anacrusis, Bleeding Edge and now Deathloop all seem to have this wacky psychos in an apocalyptic setting or cartoony art direction with characters that cannot shut up. And now Redfall is confusing with its marketing because it looks so similar to the dozens of Left 4 Dead clones we see announced at one of the random Keighley events.
There’s too many of these games that don’t stand out from one another, I’d like to see Arkane Studios try their hands at something that doesn’t visually look like other games.
Right now I’m replaying Prey on Steam deck and it just feels so refreshing on an artistic design and gameplay standpoint. I feel my brain healing from the lack of innovation in game design.
I was really enjoying Deathloop when I played it back at release but the thought of finishing it now just fills me with a headache. I’d love if they either went back to Dishonored or made a new IP maybe within the Dishonored universe where you could throw the Deathloop characters in I guess? I just don’t wanna do more loopy rogue-lite, not a rogue-lite but we have borderlands tier annoying 1 dimensional enemies everywhere.
Deathloop is set like 50-100 years after Death of the Outsider, yes.
Prey is referenced in the Dishonored series and vice versa, but as far as we know, they are separate universes. Same for Redfall, although it would not surprise me if Redfall is set in the Prey universe.
That would mean Lyon’s games are connected and Austin’s games are connected.
I havn’t played Deathloop yet but im like 25 hours into Prey and this game is incredible
Bioshock is one of my favourite games but this game surpasses it in many ways, genuinely might be the most underrated game ever made
and since this was the Austin team it’s makes me very excited for Redfall
deathloop isn’t anymore “cartoony” than dishonored.
I’d personally be into this more than a Dishonored 3, it’s a weird and interesting universe but while I really enjoyed Deathloop I never really got into Dishonored.
The way the characters act is more so cartoony, aside from Julianna and the MC, most of the characters are wacky loud cult members that I feel like I’ve seen a thousand times already. They aren’t done well, Metro Exodus in that church is how you do cult members.
Dishonored doesn’t have a script with characters screaming nonsensical things, the NPCs don’t act like cringeworthy try hard punks.
Because Dishonored isn’t set in an alternate version of the 60s. Deathloop is, so that tone is appropriate.
The characters were insane people in a literal deathloop.
You are right, but that doesn’t make it right.
When it starts to hurt the players head because they keep on having to hear the same phrases, hear the same voice actors doing their annoying Rage 2, borderlands etc apocalypse psycho thing over and over again, it all starts to blend together and it’s no longer original.
Meanwhile Arkane has made some amazing games like Prey, where the enemies don’t even speak and the combat scenerios are so dynamic! Why are they going backwards?
Well, probably they want more engaging games?
They are going backwards IN YOUR OPINION. Not everyone agrees they are going backwards.
They are simply trying to evolve the immersive sim formula and not do the same thing every time. As great as they are, if Arkane made games like Dishonored and Prey over and over again, it would get boring.
It’s in Arkane’s DNA to try new things. You don’t have to like it, but you better get used to it because they aren’t going to stop.
Some folks can’t just say, “I don’t like the style of Game X”, they have to take shots at the game for some reason to really drive their point home, low level discourse for the loss.
It’s the next goal post when Xbox delivers a game.
It’s a shame really because I can honestly say that I share a bit of that general sentiment about screaming try hard psychos everywhere. It’s not very interesting imho.
I’m not goalposting and I’d have no reason to goalpost. I just feel like Deathloop could’ve gotten some slice of life improvements. For example, the game is still only mostly positive on steam due to bugs and performance issues that were never addressed, along with the heavily advertised multiplayer drop-in invasion feature that hardly works.
My friend and I both bought it at release on steam with the intent of invading each others games but the multiplayer server is so bugged to this day on PC that we’ve never done it.
This is an exagerration. Yes, there are connection issues due to peer-to-peer, but most of the time (in my experience on PS5 and Series X) it’s perfectly functional.
I myself loved dishonored because it had human enemies, hated prey because not having human enemies or human like personalities made it boring af for me.
I just couldn’t get into the game where I am just walking around with no one around and minimal interaction with other characters. That’s saying a lot for me because I enjoy dark souls, and the interaction in those games are bare bones.
Deathloop I liked at first but when I was going through the 4th loop, I lost interest because I have to keep doing the same thing with only a slight difference everytime. It’s the same issue I have with games like Enter the Gungeon, they’re fun for a bit but after being forced to do the same but again and again in such a short time I just want to stop. I will be looking up to see if there is a single or 3 loop game play video for the game though as I just want to do the story without the constant backtracking.
Not you, specifically. I mean when they ask one thing, it’s the next thing that would be a roadblock, like it has to go through phases.
Phase 1: Where’s the game?
Phase 2: Is it a small title?
Phase 3: Is it my type of game?
Phase 4: Did it score over 88 meta?
Phase 5: Is it popular?
Phase 6: Insert one because I know you can
“Is it a third-person action adventure game? If no, it doesn’t count. If yes, it also doesn’t count for arbitrary reasons (Gears is Gears, Hellblade is too linear and cinematic, Fable MIGHT have co-op etc).”
