And yet, your original post was all about “they couldn’t hit the deadline with help!”
But also, the mass disillusion going on about the state of Halo has reached absurd lengths and I hope Microsoft isn’t silly enough to change anything drastic solely because the fanbase can never be pleased. The reality is, the fans are a bigger problem to Halo than 343 is. Like Star Wars.
343 changed over so much staff that I’d say they’re more unproven than anything at this point. New leads for campaign, multiplayer, art, music and story. Huge influx of devs. Much bigger project. I wouldn’t say to have blind faith but I would also say that past doesn’t dictate future just because this team is employed by the same studio.
They showed unfinished graphics in July. To me, that’s not an indication of the overall quality of the game. Max Hoberman’s team is leading the multiplayer and he was behind the original Bungie Halos. Gareth Coker probably made my favorite soundtrack of the generation with Ori and the Will of the Whisps. Music in Halo 4 and 5 lacked emotion or punch. The gameplay sandbox looked fun based on what they showed. A wider world should create more sandbox opportunities.
I can understand being cautious with optimism but not downright super negative. Unfinished textures from a build that will likely be a year from it’s eventual release aren’t worth panicking over IMO.
Agreed. And with XGS at 23 studios and counting, the days on having to rely on 343i are numbered. They no longer have to shoulder the weight of the entire gaming division, they just need to make a great Halo game. Now that Infinite is a platform title to grow upon, they can make some stuff outside the box too and grow the franchise naturally again like it did under the Bungie days with ODST and Wars.
Agree. Said something similar on our Halo podcast last week. It’s great that Halo can just be Halo. It doesn’t have to be everything to everyone. It doesn’t have to save Xbox. Doesn’t have to pull in the COD crowd while pulling in the classic Halo crowd. If we look at Mario for example, Mario has been similar since he went 3D. Sure there’s tweaks here and there but you don’t hear Nintendo fans screaming that Mario needs a jetpack or needs to move a lot faster to modernize. At the same time, they can experiment with their sandbox and the franchise lives on whether those experiments work or not. It’s not quite the event it used to be but it’s still a special reason why people buy Nintendo devices.
Now that we have a working Master Chief collection with all the best games working across console and PC, 23 studios, ID making a blazing fast shooter, Machine Games also making shooters…I’m looking forward to seeing what 343 does without having to try herding cats (gamers of all tastes) while in a pressure cooker.
Giving 343 a 10 year platform and a more malleable engine will allow them to experiment and take chances while also not being forced into a specific data driven, trending direction in order to try reclaiming it’s status from a much different era. Pretty excited for the potential of Halo honestly.
If Halo Infinite is late an can’t make H1, it will release in September.
That’s always a great time to release a blockbuster game. Huge launch and a big holiday boost in the same year.
I expect a Q3 or Q4 release for Halo Infinite as well, tbh. It’s a bit all or nothing for Halo, and the initial response was not that great. Pushing back the release date was a big thing to do, so don’t see them taking any chances.
Yep. Halo is just one amazing game away from breaking records again. Look at franchises like God of War or Crash Bandicoot where one good comeback made people immediately forget various disappointments. And Halo is bigger than those two IPs.
But isn’t that exactly what we all expected? Or did we really expect a brand new game to be announced? What Aaron said could mean we get to see gameplay from ACV, WDL, The Ascent, The Medium, CrossfireX, Cyberpunk (although I think this will be done by CDPR themselves) and so on. Already announced games but we haven’t seen them running off XSX hardware yet.
Man, Xbox has been killing it with there messaging and I’m still hungry for more. Bethesda acquisition? Old news! Love it though, everybody (except for console warriors) is so positive about Xbox these days, it takes some getting used to.
Really looking forward to playing Destiny 2: Beyond Light en Cyberpunk in November!
Shouldn’t be too long before we get XSX footage from CDPR, since they said closer to launch of the game we’ll see it on XSX. Hope this month but could be early November too.
The only reason why Halo would not be done if Infinite doesn’t deliver is Xbox game studios size now.
They could let the franchise rest for 10 years and still be fine.
But realistically speaking, if Infinite has a bad launch, they need to turn around Infinite. There is no other chance.
If Infinite launch is bad and they can’t turn it around like R6 Siege, Halo is done for the foreseeable future.
But I don’t see why that would be the case.
So far it looks very good. A modern classic Halo.
An epic campaign and a free Multipalyer.
I absolutely agree. even if Halo Infinite becomes one of the biggest failures in the industry it’s going nowhere… maybe 343 will disappear. the ip Halo will never be left out.
And not. I do not believe that Halo will be a failure… Graphics is not a determining factor for success… right @Nintendo@Fortnite… Obvious they could be better.
After seeing this I really want to see The Witcher 3. The loading times are a drag, especially after dying and if you play at a difficulty mode that has you dying easily and often a short loading time would be bliss.
