…t to go beyond its cage so to speak. MS has multiple platforms so it can’t just funnel people into Xbox using exclusives. Yes they want you in the MS ecosystem, but using that method of exclusivity doesn’t work as well with multiple platforms. The perception of “I can only play it one place” is gone. This is why MS talks about playing anywhere, they are shifting away from that false scarcity “you can only play it here” method of selling. Instead it now becomes more important for games to be well known, for the games themselves to be huge. This is MS looking at owning the next Minecraft, Fortnite, FIFA, etc… and then letting people play it on a bunch of MS devices and on MS servers. Essentially Sony is still putting the console above the games, while MS is putting the games above the console.

Their approach is different but after the things Bethesda and MS themselves have said I have very little doubt that the Bethesda games stay inside the Xbox ecosystem. Especially founder of Bethesda :

“What Microsoft owns Sony can’t get.” and the other day someone put Phil’s statement about Minecraft after they acquired Mojang to his statement after acquiring Bethesda. Some really clear words there.

But again, who knows, if it happens at all I am willing to bet money on it that it won’t be day one. No way the games will release across all platforms on day one. In 2022 (just to avoid disappointment I assume it won’t happen next year) when Sony is releasing their own exclusives here and there along with the silly, oh so silly timed exclusives…you’ll be hearing Xbox announce that Starfield is coming that same year along with a gameplay reveal and everything. I can definitely see them not using the word exclusive at all to keep options open for the future but if they do make it clear that it’s full exclusive…well…can’t get much clearer.

Today i spoke to a buddy of mine and we spoke about Bethesda and Xbox, Phil etc. He recalled that Phil apparently sometime ago said he isn’t fond of platform exclusivity. I don’t recall that. I recall him saying he doesn’t like deals where a game is being made lesser (Avengers with Spidey for example). Am i right?

Lots of momentum for Microsoft, and I don’t think there is a rush to push out Halo. I truly believe Halo will be Q4, but would be nice if we can get a multiplayer beta or hopefully a Halo BR before the release of infinite

If the game is ready and polished, go and ship it. If not, wait till September 2021 If Holiday 2021 is as stacked as Holiday 2020 I don’t want the game to come out in November, tho.

He has said that he isn’t generally fond of exclusivity, particularly ‘walled garden’ exclusivity. He has been more vocal about timed exclusivity though.
