Xbox Game Studios |OT| Halo...is it me you’re looking for?

I hope Microsoft makes all kinds of games. Just, let’s be fair, Microsoft currently does’t have a single studio making third person action games (besides the smaller Hellblade games). With Compulsion Games, Ninja Theory and The Initiative growing it could well happen.

What I’m trying to say is we shouldn’t wish all publishers do the same thing. We’ve seen this before where every publisher was chasing Call of Duty, Halo, World of Warcraft, etc. Obsidian and inXile should be making RPG’s. Rare should be making crazy stuff. Etc.

Sony didn’t invent these games in the slightest. But let’s be honest here, they’ve mastered them pretty well. It will be hard for MS to compete one to one. Focusing on diversity, with the studios they currently have, is a smarter idea.

I’ve been advocating for MS to build more mainstream third person action games for years. I don’t like those games at all, but I see how they appeal to the masses. I hope The Initiative can help Microsoft in that genre.

Microsoft is a trillion dollar company, it is here not for love, but for money. Results. And the Xbox Game Pass too. What matters is the money dripping at the end of the month. If from the moment Subscribers start to question the lack of Blockbusters AAA 3 person “sony style” in the service and start a stampede of subscribers it is obvious that MS/Xbox Studios will start to move. if MS / Xbox Studios offers a “Game AA GaaS” and customers require “AAA in third person Single-player”, MS will comply. what matters is the subscribers. and attract new ones too.

I think Amazon Game Studios has shown us it isn’t as easy to build great games as just throwing money against the wall.

Apparently it’s a different publisher, so maybe that’s it. Not sure if it’s the same developer. Either way, I don’t get it. Guess I’ll get it for Switch then because I don’t see myself having a PS5 early next year yet.

You guys are delusional if you think AAA means Third Person cinematic game or Third Person camera view game.

what Xbox need is AAA quality games which they needed more of it, we had Three Quality AAA game MFS and Forza Horzion 3&4

One of these is in niche genre, Simulator games are niche aside of the hardcore or sim fans causal people likes MFS 2020 because of it graphics and that it.

the rest of AAA games had bugs and issues like Gears 5 and it’s terrible MP

I think it’s more delusional to dismiss allllllllllll these other games because they had some bugs. But whatever, dude.

Gears 5 lacked Quality and you can tell it was rushed from story to MP also the bugs i’m talking about not just normal bugs i’m talking about crashing game bugs on xbox consoles

What "empty promises were these ? I keep hearing about them but nobody goes into detail. Every event they’ve had this year was packed with games but goalposts got changed and arbitrary reasons to dismiss everything they’ve revealed were created.

Frankly other than Spiderman DLC i can’t really think of anything compelling launching with the competition’s box. Maybe they have some stuff they haven’t talked about but historically Playstation hasn’t had an amazing launch line up since the PS1. Cyberpunk 2077 will be THE game of the fall (assuming it doesn’t get delayed again) and there’s a marketing deal with that as i recall.

Those games have to be dismissed though, or else certain narratives can’t be pushed.

People really think all MS is going to shove out the door are half baked games? I mean somewhat recently Gears 5 and Ori and the Will of the Wisps came out and those games never felt “half baked” at all. MSFS doesn’t look half baked, Wasteland 3 doesn’t look half baked. Didn’t they also just delay Halo Infinite out of the launch of their new console to ensure that it also won’t be half baked? I’m sure you’ll get a variety of games from MS in the future some will be early access like Grounded, others will be full experiences at launch with potentially expansions or additional DLC later on.

Assuming you meant to say “lacked”, no, it did not. Your “perspective” is something else today…

The biggest point I want to counter here is “Sony has mastered those types of games”. As subjective as that is it doesn’t include the different types of characters, worlds, or stories MS could develop in that category. Yes Sony may have conquered the often termed “sad dad” games but there are plenty of other sub genres of 3rd person narrative/action games.

I want to be clear, I also don’t want MS to make ALL third person narrative games, I just notice a trend where it doesn’t seem MS is even interested just judging by what they’ve shown and how they speak in interviews. I mean…in there own Gamepass ad they’re using Batman and Geralt…I just want them to create more of there own iconic characters and stories.

Someone will say “what do you call Hellblade”, cool but what if I’m not interested in that character or that world. I get games are coming, I just don’t understand the narrative around this topic sometimes.

edit: Just to clarify I’m in agreement with all your other points.

HAHA yeah i apologies i meant lacked, English is not my first language. Also what is wrong with my Perspective ? i didn’t say gears 5 was a bad game simply Xbox and the collation rushed the game just so they can have AAA game in 2019 for game pass, it would had better if they delayed the game and release it alongside XSX

It’s a fair ask. I’d point to Compulsion and The Initiative as to the studios that may provide that hope. Compulsion has a lot of creative people from Bioshock and is more than doubling their staff size to accommodate a AAA game. Most of the Initiatives creatives come from making the type of game you describe. It’s not that Microsoft should never fund a game like that. It’s that they aren’t going to go head to head on the overall portfolio in that genre. Their Netflix approach doesn’t allow them to specialize. If they were going to specialize on a genre, it would probably be an area that is less served. I’d note that they may become the #1 publisher of Western RPGs next gen. Western RPGs, however, don’t focus on single characters as much as they do player autonomy so that genre likely won’t fulfill your ask.

I do get what you’re saying. It’s exciting to talk about building out new worlds and characters. Sandbox games don’t allow for as much of that. Joanna Dark may be the next big tentpole character to represent their brand.

I understand that even Xbox fans can certainly have some different opinions, but I hope that we can start moderating some of the recent stuff out of this Xbox focused forum because it sure seems like some trolling or console war crap making its way into the discussion.

Because not only was that game amazing, but so have many others from Xbox this era, you just dismissed everything except Flight Sim and Horizon. Also, God of War was amazing and so is the MCU. You’ve just been full of… let’s say… “hot takes” today…on wildly popular and successful and great things.

i’m not dismissing these games lol. Forza Horizon games are the best in business and deserve the success they got and same goes for MFS 2020.

all i’m saying these are not enough and they need more quality games like these

We are. Trying to allow nuanced discussion without everyone having the same take yet we don’t want people being aggressive towards each other or pushing buttons with troll like comments. We’ll continue to work towards achieving that. Troll comments will continue to be dealt with.

Well they’re obviously coming but quality takes time and i find it hard to believe that MS didn’t have any third party AAA exclusives in the pipeline until these games are ready.

I don’t see how he can know the prices when i don’t even think Phil knows the price. I think phil has a range of prices he is willing to go with. However, I think Microsoft will wait for Sony to release prices and then they will decide after that point. As Microsoft was burned on price by going first this gen. They wont repeat that mistake.

This is alot like how Nvidia does prices and why nvidia prices never launch. As Nvidia decides and finalizes there price right before they walk on stage and announce the product.

i’m not a fan of the new GOW and i’m not huge fan of cinematic genre so don’t play this card one me. All i’m saying most of AAA Games this gen lacked Quality or had issues

Gears 4,5

Halo 5

Ryse

Quantum break

Sea of thieves with Bare bone release and they sold the game for $59 lol
