Xbox confirms AMD will power the next generation of Xbox consoles

I guess it wouldn’t matter so long as they can capitalize on the fact that windows is the default gaming OS? If they can pull everyone into an “Xbox experience” on windows as the one-stop for your full library and all game stores that’d be huge. That’ll probably also help bring some people to the MS store and PC game pass.

I’m don’t play games on pc, so a question for those that do. Console players don’t want to deal with all the pc settings and the tinkering that goes with it to get their games to work optimally. My understanding is developers make an optimized series x version, series s version, and ps5 version for consoles. But they just make one pc windows version.

So if we go with the assumption xbox has multiple boxes at different power levels and is more pc like than console like, do the developers need to make a version for each box in order to make these new pc xboxes plug and play? Or can the game tell what your hardware capabilities are and automatically adjust without tinkering?

From all the rumors and speculation on where xbox is going for next gen, this is the part I don’t fully understand. As someone who just plays on console, I really hope xbox can retain their ease of use qualities.

I assume if games are purchased through Microsoft store it will have better optimization because can push updates through its profile . I assume if games are on steam, then it will be your typical pc gaming experience . For the most part not too much tinkering these days

Ah, ok. That makes more sense to me. So a follow up for you. Who is responsible for the profile update? I’m having a hard time articulating this so will use an example.

Let’s say Halo Infinite 2 launches on xbox series x2 (that has pc properties) and regular pc. 3 years later, an xbox OEM makes an upgraed series x2 with higher performance. And by this time there are better graphics cards for pc. On the pc side the game will run better automatically on better hardware. However, on the xbox x2 (pc) will this be automatic or will a developer need to add a new profile for better performance. If they don’t, it just runs the same as a backward campat title?

Most games now automatically detect your setup and choose the best settings for it - assume they just test with multiple benchmarks across various strengths of CPU, RAM, drive speed and GPU then set it to the closest one to your setup.

I tweak settings slightly both on Xbox and PC as I prefer V Sync on and don’t care too much about frame rate but want a good picture - but generally that’s just setting whether to prefer performance or quality, and V Sync.

Given those settings generally exist on both versions (including Steam and other store versions) I honestly doubt anyone would notice much difference - PC gaming really isn’t complicated any more, it’s much the same as console

Yeah, to this day I still don’t understand people saying they ditched PC to go to consoles because they would wasted 2 to 3 days setting up a game to play. Everything I install is pretty much good to go the moment I press play and like you said, most recent games push settings according to your detected setup anyway so there is very little to do out of the gate.

Like for me I’m the opposite of you and will turn of vsync and will push for that 240fps to match my display’s refresh rate, and it’s something I adjust on my first play and can get to where I want in a matter of minutes.

These days people have it so easy with PC gaming and have no idea how it was in the 90s to be honest. It’s night and day!

Interesting. Thanks for explaining. This helps me see the big picture better.

Its interesting, in a perfect world xbox could just explain their new console/pc/handheld integration strategy at their summer showcase and say it all works like this now. People would be blown away. But the undertaking is so complex and time consuming we are seeing this slow rollout. Kind of loses its impact and creates more questions than answers. Still exciting to follow, though.

I would say think of it like “Steam Deck Profiles”. Game like CP2077 have a settings profile specifically for the steam deck.

Kepler_L2: PS6 ~9070XT and Nextbox ~5080 + RDNA 5 > Blackwell : r/GamingLeaksAndRumours

There’s been more talk from Kepler about likely upcoming consoles.

Going over it, I think the patent info is new to me at least, but he’s still saying 9070XT level for PS6 and 5080 for Xbox.

I love how the top comment is just about how many times the post has been removed and the very bottom of the post is OP begging for it not to be removed. I’m very new to leaks — I usually wait for official announcements — but how many grains of salt should I be taking all of this with? I’ve seen article headlines saying the next Xbox is more powerful than the PS6 and just the opposite. I’ve seen that it’s an OEM and just the opposite. I’ve seen that it’s a full PC and a hybrid and a traditional console and the next next Xbox is a hybrid. Speculation is fun, but as a leaker should I be trusting anything that comes from this guy?

There’s going to be a lot of click bait until we actually get info from Microsoft and Sony. So far at least, there’s no “reliable” leaker saying Sony’s machine is going to be the strongest.

So we haven’t had the same wild mass delusions in social media that happened around the PS5 and XSX.

In general, MLID should be disregarded if he is the only one commenting on something. He is a pathetic hack and when he is wrong he goes back and deletes the videos and pretends like they never happened.

With the Magnus (Xbox) and PS6 rumors, we have some other people sort of confirming the reporting. Digital Foundry also recently did some commentary on Magnus and if Im not mistaken said they corraborated some of the Magnus info.

So at this point, with Magnus/Xbox at least, the information seems to be generally sound.

The PS6 stuff was also corraborated by Kepler. Who is generally more reliable than MLID, but does also get things wrong sometimes.

Good that someone reiterates this early doors, it seems like we re-learn this every new console cycle

I mean, at the end of the day we are speculating here. So even though he’s a grifter, it’s fun to guess what’s coming up next and he’s of the few giving us something to talk about when it comes to next gen hardware.

Cool. And we know Magnus is Xbox? Like I had seen some stuff that questioned whether the code names were swapped and Magnus was for the PS6 or neither. I guess speculation wise even if it is 100% Xbox then it’s a question of what exactly Xbox’s strategy is. Because they could have magnus for like all the Xbox PC OEMs and something else for consoles.

I don’t really know how all the under the hood stuff works anyway or AMD & Sony & Microsoft when it comes to hammering out these deals. It is just neat to speculate with whatever it is coming within the next two - three years for both PS and Xbox. Man, it’s been a short and long time since 2020. For Xbox I certainly like to hope that whatever it is that’s next is coming in 2026.

I wouldn’t say that we “know” necessarily, but Id say we can be fairly confident.

Seems the Sony propaganda machine is out in full force, trying to scare people. Apparently Sony will have console at half the price of the next Xbox, and a PS6 portable more powerful than a base PS5! Since all games sold will be through 3rd party stores from now on (yeah right!) and MS will lose the 30% cut on all games sold, they’ll now have to double the price of their console to be financially viable.

Also, none of the PCs equipped with Magnus will run Xbox games, only the first party Xbox console, because devs are scared of the idea.

The fanboys really spread some funny BS, at best the price of the PS6 will be a match for the current PS5pro, with a possible mark up of at least $100 dollars like PS4pro to PS5.

Imo, the PS6 will be at least $799 USD, with possible tariffs that can push it up even further, if they want to say that the next Xbox will be $1599, I think they will be in for a big surprise. If the plans to have third party OEMs make their own go through and that’s the price of the version from Asus, Gigabyte or Razer and it turns out to be an upgrade over the version Xbox sells.

Edit: Also, no way is the portable going to be stronger than PS5, it will be a Series S level portable at most. Since it’s a portable, that could cost about the same as the current Ally X, that makes me doubt even further that the PS6 won’t be more expensive than the PS5Pro.

The PS5 requires 300w from the wall half the time (while only actually using about 230 to 250 of it, a 15-30w handheld can do PS5 performance for about 15 minutes, right now.
