Xbox+Bethesda: Discussion Thread

I hope they ditch X1 and instead let those gamers just stream the game via X1.

I read @Cerysnetics 's post differently. I read it that MS may keep games exclusive LONGER because MS doesn’t see Sony getting a large amount of PS5’s out-the-door and therefore the smaller install base makes a full exclusive less risky or a timed exclusive less profitable when released on the other platform. But I’m reading during work breaks and admit to potential lapses in context.

Yeah depending on the balance of console availability things could really swing either way. Hopefully it turns out well for Xbox.

Agreed. This is the best solution for now.

Nobody cares about die hard fans. If it were the case Street Fighter V would come to Xbox and bunch of other games too. We had a generation without Yakuza games and nobody cared about “lost sales”, yet MS should bother. MS should pull the plug on anything related to Playstation. No reason to provide Playstation with additional console sales it would get from the people who will buy Playstation to play Starfield.

We should agree to disagree.

This seems like an unfair characterisation of what some people are trying to say here. I don’t think anyone is actually arguing “yeah fuck it just release everything on PlayStation as well why not YOLO!”

For me, some people are just trying to look at this whole situation in a slightly more dispassionate way & consider why it could potentially be less straightforward than we, as Xbox fans, think or would prefer.

This is an industry shaking move that Xbox has made here. They laid down 7.5 billion dollars to help build something special for us Xbox gamers. Maybe it’s a good idea to, as I said, just chill & let the situation develop for now.

Yeah @TavishHill @WhiteDevilMan little of column A little of B.

Just thinking aloud that so many have not been able to get either console yet, hardware supply may be a large consideration as well. TBH I feel it may work in MS favour, the longer things go on supply constrained and the more “good news” in terms of MS developers and yes even timed exclusives of games to keep MS mindshare high, then the more likely those champing at the bit for new hardware would consider even timed exclusives a big enough pull to move to Xbox and gamepass.

Thats me just presuming a little that a majority are more platform agnostic than we think and MS are taking big steps to make their ecosystem more appealing right now to convert customers.

Sorry bit dopey and sleepy if that doesn’t make sense.

Having games on rival platforms is acceptable. Having no kind of times exclusivity will be outrageous.

Console scarcity works very in favor of Microsoft, because Playstation would not doubt outsell it 2:1 with the free stock available. And all they “faiings” in messaging, would have sold additional amount of consoles. MS is incredible lucky and if supply constraints remain, their push for XCloud might bring a lot of benefit is they are to update the server blades fast. People who are not able to buy the console, might want to subscribe to a service.

I continue to repeat but Xbox is in unfavorable odds almost everywhere. Each game coming to a competitors platform, is additional console sold by the competitor. And Playstation will sell a lot, simply because it is Playstation. It will get games, that Xbox might not get at all.

Imagine Xbox announcing Starfield as multiplatform and day one for all, this E3. Lol, nah I rather not imagine that. I can’t see that happening.

Releasing on rival platforms for the time being because of contracts yep, after that? Nein!

Console launch exclusive. And we find people defending that.

I think we can safely say that some will be full exclusives, some will be timed, and others we dunno yet. I say we know some will be timed based on the CFO’s language. The only game I personally think has a chance of being day and date on PS5 is Wolfenstein 3.

Didn’t know Bethesda is as old as me. And their HQ is 20 mins away from me. Crazy.

You two should spend your next birthdays together!

Ok there’s no way anyone can see the beginning of that roundtable and not think the games will be exclusive as soon as possible.

Phil literally said they couldn’t decide on anything up until now and only now they will start sitting down and deciding everything.
