I think the fundamental difference is SEGA own ATLUS and MS has always had a good relationship with them, since the Dreamcast days.
I don’t believe for a second ATLUS really changed their opinions about Xbox, but it’s clear to me they’ve been strong armed into going multiplatform from the top.
Well and what has changed? FF moneyhat aside, what big Square Enix’s output we are not getting anymore? Smaller games we did not receive even before so…
I ‘applauded’ PlayStation for getting Stellar Blade and Rise of te Rohin. I take this back. As a new Xbox gamer (Xbox series S) with my interest being broader than ever (thank you Game Pass) I applaude Xbox for what they achieved today.
This tweets states how far Xbox in the last two years come. An excellent job team Xbox.
I am happy with Ni No Kuni. Guilty Gear Strive looks awesom. And Naraka Bladepoint is a fun time waister.
One last thing I wanted to point out. In the upcoming months there will be a lot more Japanese and Asian games released on Xbox. Watch the clip at the end of the show. Great number of titles that weren’t highlighted in this show.
Theres clearly been some form of agreement or financial handshake between Sony/SE to keep games off Xbox. Purely Xbox I don’t think Sony care so much about Nintendo as they know thats a huge Revenue source for SE. But if they can pay to keep games off Xbox they will.
If that were the case then I severely doubt FF7 Crisis Core would be hitting Xbox. Pretty good looking and playing remake. They would have wanted that one off Xbox for sure
It’s nothing to do with Sony besides games that are PS only/PS PC only
No I think there is something going on there. I feel like they may have some sort of “right of first refusal” marketing agreement going on, where SE goes to Sony first if they are seeking some sort of deal. If Sony says “nope” only then can they go to Nintendo or Microsoft to ask for a deal.
Also a kind of conspiracy-style theory is the idea that Sony will be buying SE and they are limiting what they develop/release on Xbox before it happens. Sony is holding back on making it official because they want to be able to disrupt Microsoft’s Activision purchase.
They drip feed some games to make it seem they arent.
My point is theyll pick and choose. Of course sony have a hand in it
Crisis core is a low budget psp remaster. Not a good one either.
Ff7 remake…yeah it makes 0 sense to not be on xbox. SE dare not put that game on xbox. Even though makes more sense than a psp remaster and low budget new ip diofeld.
I don’t think Sony is buying Square Enix at all. Otherwise they would not do anything like that. I do think that there is some exclusive agreement with Square Enix and Sony regarding FF IP (same as with Resident Evil I guess?)
The weird thing as @NierlyCrazy said is that the games that come to Xbox are completely random, there is no pattern like for example releasing the more mainstream titles and not the more niche games. Xbox is getting Diofileld and not Octopath Traveler 2 which is a sequel of a game that came to Xbox…and if we are taking into consideration the topic about port budgets and costs do they really think that porting Diofield & Star Ocean is worth it and justified but porting Trials of Mana or Octopath Traveler 2 for example isn’t? do they really expect that Diofield costs will be covered by it’s sales on Xbox but Octopath 2’s won’t? I seriously don’t understand the plan and business decisions behind this.
You know, I asked myself “I wonder if Xbox should have someone speak to translate next time.” Watching the stream currently, it’s pretty unintentionally funny. I guess subtitle is the best way.
Okay, then why are games like Dragon Quest Treasures and Harvestella not coming to PS? These aren’t even like other Square Switch games where Nintendo published them; Square is publishing these so they’re just not putting them on PS. And I don’t think Square Switch exclusives would even exist at all if Sony had this sort of “deal” and are “buying them soon”.
Really wish some of you could enjoy all the awesome games being announced without preening over everything that isn’t coming to Xbox, it’s so fucking tiresome.
None of you know why SE isn’t releasing certain games on Xbox, so stop racking your brain over it.
It’s also worth noting that IF Sony were buying Square they’d be in the same boat Microsoft is with Activision right now. Microsoft cannot legally touch activision or influence it’s running in any way until the deal closes and for good reason - these deals can fall through after all. I don’t know if the system is different at all in Japan but I don’t imagine Square would be letting Sony influence them before they’ve even started the formal acquisition process.
You do a lot of complaining about other people on here and often times it adds absolutely 0 to the discussion. Let people speculate and discuss things. It won’t hurt you I promise.
As far as SquareEnix, Sarah Bond said they are a partner at the beginning of the show and as much as I don’t care for their games anymore due to their business tactics with Sony, they must have something else in the pipeline for Xbox.
