I think it needs to be highlighted and not lost in the chatter. These discounts were a nice incentive, at least for me. It’s a small gesture that they could have kept in the Ultimate tier at least, but I guess they also scrapped it and instead kept Rewards.
My start saving for next gen plan is looking better than ever.

On a serious note, that sucks, but at least now we will be reconditioned to wait for sales for DLC.
Me after a cave in(next gen though).
The wording of the Xbox Wire post: Ultimate subscribers can now earn up to $100 per year (100k points globally) in the Store just by playing games. With our upgraded Rewards program, players can get up to 30% value on select Game Pass games, with 4x points on purchases of games and add-ons, 10% back in points on select Game Pass library titles and add-ons, and up to 20% off select Game Pass games.
They say 10% back in points on games and dlc now and I don’t even know what that means because they also say 4x points and 30% value on games and add-ons, so like what? Do these stack? And then it says only 20% discount on select GP games instead of all (which granted I notice this has been changed for a while). And the dlc discount was the biggest incentive to buy more dlc. It was only 10% off. People aren’t going to notice getting points.
If I understand this correctly, when you buy games or content in the store, you get 10% of the price in points added automatically to your Rewards account. It tells you how many points exactly you are making in the pop-up after buying in the store. It’s been added recently, so maybe they are trying to say that it is the same as before although it’s not, because we used to have both the discounts AND the Rewards points.
See I can understand that, but what confuses me is they say you get more points like 3 different times and say it 3 different ways. And they use commas for all of it, not semicolons or periods which would separate them a little better. Is it multiplicative? Do I get 30% value on select Game Pass games in total? Or do I get 30% value on select games AND 4x points on all purchases AND 10% also on select games And 20% off select Game Pass games? Because that’s what they say? It’s commas and and (not a single or, or a period) to tell me it’s one or the other.
But I have to call BS there because ain’t no way Xbox is that generous. For a $70 game it’d look like: 4 X [(30% X $70) + (10% X $70)]
And it says cash back in points so it should be the same value amount which you could turn into a gift for XYZ points. But that’d literally be more value in points than what the game is worth. Or they could be using “creative wording” on the word value and plan to use the inflated point values where it does not equal 30% of what you paid or 10% really.
I can see what points I’d get from a purchase, but (and I haven’t made a purchase yet so maybe this has changed) they don’t break down how those points were decided.
Microsoft has now issued IGN a statement confirming the change and pointing subscribers to its official website for more information.
“This is not specific to any one game and reflects all games and DLC purchases. Instead of a discount on the purchases, Ultimate and Premium subscribers will earn 10% and 5% — respectively — in points when purchasing select games and add-ons from the Game Pass library. Ultimate members continue to have 20% discount on select games from the Game Pass library. On top of that, all Rewards members will earn points when shopping games and add-ons on the Store, while Premium and Ultimate subscribers will earn even more, 2x and 4x respectively. See more detail on the Game Pass Rewards program here.”
How do we know which these “select games” are?
The discount section in the Game Pass app or the store.
At least they bumped up the discounts and rewards points.
