Xbox Acquisition |OT7| Come on down for your chance to win on “Who will Xbox buy next?!”

Dune is a great IP. You could make RPG, TPS, RTS, space sim, FPS, adventure games, …

I don’t know, the deal with Sony is very recent. Legendary continues to work with Warner for current projects (Dune, Godzilla X Kong), but what will happen next? You may be right about the big projects that will stay at Warner. We’ll see, but in any case, Legendary owns the rights.

Legendary had a partnership with Funcom to develop Dune games. Spice Wars is already out and it seems to me that Funcom is developing an MMO. I don’t know if it’s still in progress.

Honestly, I’m not particularly interested in Dune games (I really like Villeneuve’s film), but I would give a lot for games in the Lord of the Rings universe. For example I think an MMO by Zenimax Online and action-adventure games by Eidos, Crystal or Asobo would be incredible. In my opinion, this is the license to have, especially if Microsoft is considering acquiring Warner.

The same team that made the recent Dune parts one and two? Would you happen to have a link to that info (or rumor)?

“Prophecy” is the prequel series produced by Villeneuve and Legendary for HBO Max, it was originally called “Systerhood” and is officially scheduled for release next year.

“Messia” is the sequel to Dune. The script is already written by Villeneuve, but it has not yet had the green light from Legendary and Warner. It will depend on the success of part 2. Villeneuve always wanted to adapt the first two novels. He’s a great director, I hope he can do it.

Hadn’t heard of Prophecy or Systerhood before! I read Dune Messiah YEARs ago in Jr. High. I liked the 80s Dune move, and absolutely LOVED Villeneuve’s recent part one. I am excitedly awaiting part two, now.

Thank you for the info!

Its a scoop by a leaker but the fact that the script is already finished means it has some weight to it. And yes its the same team.

With the recent Insomniac data leaks, it showed the massive Disney royalties and licensing percents being paid out of profits. This is even more reason for MS to acquire an entertainment Studio like Disney or WBD.

I am not sure this is the way, but they clearly need to control their IP.

I am pretty sure the next acquisition will not come naked in terms of IP.

Yea I though the same thing, just like what happened with ea and fifa, the idea of owning dc doesnt sound bad now, but I doubt ms wants to make a big jump like that after getting cod

Disney is too expensive to be bought, you would pay 250B$ to get them at least.

WBD is very much too complicated to be managed. This is a pit of expenses.

Indeed, still I dont see ms being interested in joining that industry after all the disaster in hollywood, I am sure they will focus only on gaming right now, but besides abk what other option do you think they might be interested?

We already know their targets by the FTC leaks. For publishers, Paradox and Sega.

For the unique studios, the list is longer but with the usual suspects.

I guess they will go for the publishers first then, although they could focus on mobile before

I still don’t think that IF Microsoft were to buy a media company, that gaming would be a motivating/deciding factor. More like a side benefit.

i would think it’s for the synergy and increase sales like the Netflix witcher and Cyberpunk Edgerunners and HBO TLOU increasing their sales

These lists are updated every year so it is possible that publishers and studios on the list disappear and new ones are added.

But it seems to me that Microsoft is very close to Warner as shown by all the partnerships with films for custom controllers and Xboxes, the addition of Barbie cars in Forza Horizon 5, or the Dune DLC for Microsoft Flight Simulator, the Minecraft film in production for 2025 (Minecraft is Microsoft’s biggest IP and it is entrusted to Warner which proves a certain confidence)

I add to that the new Storage on Quartz that Satya Nadella presented in partnership with Warner Bros and the first Superman film

Microsofts biggest competitors have film/tv/media streaming platforms. MS is the only one without. Apple (film and apple tv), Amazon (film, Prime, Twitch), Google (Youtube, 29B rev + YT Premium 11B rev). They all also make money off gaming like MS.

Just saying, they have no choice but to compete. It could be an in house platform or acquisition, which is faster to market. Paramount is probably the easiest target, then bigger options are WBD.

i think harvey from arkane austin worked on that game

I dont think microsoft should follow what their competitors do, the game industry is doing better than hollywood right now

Transmedia is a large opportunity and it helps to build your brand and strengthen your other offerings. It’s also somewhere that you can pick up popular IP that can be used in gaming.
