Xbox Acquisition |OT7| Come on down for your chance to win on “Who will Xbox buy next?!”

well lets see i wasnt expecting ABK too but here we are i m going to say never say never anything can happen in this capitalist world lol

Also just for the record I think Xbox will be fine.

Why are people claiming Xbox doesn’t care about game preservation and Phil is lying about it because of a digital Series X. Sony literally also has a digital PS5 and I’ve never heard any claims like that about them.

Edit: just learned that it will completely replace the current Series X. Which, to be fair, I also don’t like

Edit: I wanted to put this in the community Thread and accidentally posted here, sorry about that.

Because being angry on the internet gets you attention and engagement. A lot of people don’t care to actually think about things and just want to react to it

Sonic is probably the biggest family friendly video game mascot (outside of Nintendo/Pokémon), which is why I said SEGA.

If Xbox heavily invested in SEGA they could create a massive family friendly game universe around ‘Sonic & Friends’ just like Nintendo has.

The problem is people continue to equate physical copies to preservation. The reality is, while not perfect, Microsoft has done more to preserve their library of games than any competitor.

Nintendo is back on the menu boys. Mario and Zelda on gamepass day 1 will push it past 100 million subs.

Nintendo and Valve are not realistic acquisitions. SEGA is the best alternative to Nintendo and it is the acquisition that all Xbox gamers want. Regarding Warner Games, Phill says the main problem is that it wouldn’t own the IP. I wonder if this could lead to discussions to acquire Warner Discovery as a whole. I think SEGA + Warner would be a great acquisition for Xbox and Microsoft. The future of Xbox looks very interesting.

I thought this too, we have known for a while that they want to increase their presence in gaming and big IP’s like Batman, Harry Potter, Game of Thrones and Matrix etc would definitely do that. I think a fully fleshed out Coalition game around The Matrix would be awesome too!

Xbox could go head to head with Spider-Man on a Arkham prequel/sequel trilogy.

I’m surprised Sony doesn’t actually do more video game adaptations of their Sony Pictures films/TV.

I don’t see a world in which MS owns both ABK and Nintendo.

I don’t see Nintendo even without ABK and Zinemax before it. Even a struggling Nintendo, which that isn’t happening any time to be honest. MS seem just obsessed with the idea internally since the OG Xbox

Neither does Phil. The headlines for this story without the full context are unfortunately predictable because saying “Phil Spencer doesn’t see Nintendo ever being available for a purchase or merger” isn’t sexy and doesn’t fuel the anti-xbox click/rage bait formula.

The leak about Phil considering releasing limited special Sega branded Xbox consoles in Japan would be in my mind a good strategic move to bump console sales in Japan. I know alot of people said it wouldnt be a good idea but i think its something they should do if/when they buy Sega.

As for Nintendo people are freaking out about something that will never happen. If you are an exec in the videogame industry it is your job to look at all acquisitions scenarios and possibilities.

Xbox just needs to workout a partnership with Nintendo to have their games on Gamepass in Xbox and Xbox games in Gamepass on Nintendo while helping Nintendo with their servers and online features as well as handling moving Nintendo’s entire catelog to PC. Let Nintendo make whatever Banjo, Spyro or any other games using dead XBox owned IP and they both make stupid amounts of money while increasing their markets and adding value to their fans. No aquisition needed.

Yes, there are definitely good things to do with Warner. And with SEGA, it would allow them to cover many needs from the Xbox catalog. I think this is the best possible scenario regarding publisher acquisitions. And if Microsoft is serious about acquiring Warner, I hope it also takes the opportunity to acquire Middle-Earth Enterprises from Embracer (in addition to Crystal Dynamics, Eidos, and Gearbox). Microsoft has the opportunity to create a veritable empire in the entertainment industry.

Out of interest I thought I’d take a quick look at the most well known video game characters (not already owned by Sony/Nintendo/Microsoft) and it said it was:

SEGA

  • Sonic the Hedgehog

Crystal Dynamics

  • Lara Croft (Tomb Raider)

Bandai Namco

  • Pac-Man

Konami

  • Solid Snake (Metal Gear)

CDPR

  • Geralt (Witcher)

IOI

  • Agent 47 (Hitman)

ABK

  • Crash Bandicoot
  • Spyro the Dragon

Capcom

  • Chun Li (Street Fighter)
  • Jill Valentine / Leon Kennedy (Resident Evil)

Square

  • Cloud (Final Fantasy)

Valve

  • Gordon Freeman (Half-Life)

Ubisoft

  • Rayman
  • Ezio (Assassin’s Creed)
  • Sam Fisher (Splinter Cell)

WB

  • Sub Zero (Mortal Kombat)

Take2

  • John Marston (Red Dead Redemption)

It makes it clear how important Crystal Dynamics and IOI are as ‘cheap’ acquisitions. The others are all likely going to be much more expensive, apart from Ubisoft (although not possible for a while).

In addition I also looked at the most popular fictional characters and that’s where WB really comes in!

  • Superman
  • Mickey Mouse
  • James Bond
  • Bugs Bunny
  • Batman
  • Darth Vader (Star Wars)
  • Peter Pan
  • Indiana Jones
  • Han Solo (Star Wars)
  • Spider-Man
  • Iron-Man
  • Barbie
  • Bilbo Baggins (LoTR)
  • Harry Potter
  • Optimus Prime (Transformers)
  • Captain Jack Sparrow
  • Homer Simpson
  • Sherlock Holmes
  • The Joker
  • Ellen Ripley (Aliens)
  • John McClane (Die Hard)

Now imagine if Xbox had exclusives on all those in bold (WB).. that would definitely increase Xbox’s presence with the casual market.

When you throw in Middle Earth Enterprises (like you mentioned) too that is huuuuge.

WB would be nice but who would run it. Zaslav clearly can’t perhaps they could buy and spin or divest the movie part to Comcast. They get the video game rights to everything and comcast can keep the movie and streaming rights. Sega should be the prime target not Nintendo.

sounds like a big pipe dream when nintendo themselves dont even like mods of their own games dont know how many times they have done cease nd desist cases to fan games nintendo is not friendly towards PC market

Crystal Dynamics hit with layoffs apparently. I’m sure Eidos took/will take a hit as well.

I wonder if Microsoft will try to get any of them since they’re working on perfect dark

edit: it seems to be PR, so nvm

DC Comics, Harry Potter and LOTR are appreciated well beyond video games. Having this IP exclusively on the Xbox ecosystem would attract the general public and build the loyalty of a new community of players. There’s also a clear marketing advantage, whether it’s selling the Xbox in Japan with SEGA, or using Warner’s TV channels to promote Xbox games and products. However, I can understand that investing so much in the film and television industry is scary. Microsoft has very high ambitions and seems determined to become the leader in the gaming industry by 2030. They might want to focus only on gaming, which is the most lucrative entertainment industry. In this case, I think dropping a big bag of money for Warner Games Studios (without Warner IP) is still a good option. NetherRealm and Mortal Kombat have enormous value in the industry, and other studios could work on the massive IP already owned by Xbox. I think it would still be a good option, although Warner Discovery as a whole would obviously be much better. I hope Microsoft continues to invest as much in gaming in the coming years.
