Hopefully this leads to something and the laid off workers won’t be out of a job for long.
So a leaked email came out that Microsoft was looking to acquire Nintendo. I think it isn’t so much of a huge deal tbh since that email was before the Zenimax deal. I highly doubt Microsoft will or is able to acquire Nintendo especially when the Activision deal has already been really difficult to get passed certain regulators. It’ll probably be an instant block if they tried and in my honest opinion I think it is for the better that Microsoft looks for smaller acquisitions such as developers from Embracer since the situation there isn’t so great and I’d rather have (like the post above) Microsoft approach these developers. The only kind of huge acquisition I can expect is SEGA tbh after both the Zenimax and Activision deals (which hopefully be completed soon).
Well to be fair, certain regulators have spent the last 18 months telling Microsoft and the world that Nintendo doesn’t compete with PlayStation and Xbox. So a Nintendo acquisition should just sail right through
.
Nintendo is like the endgame. Maybe Phil takes the long way round. No wonder he takes Doug Bowser for lunch, its a dating game.
I personally do not feel comfortable with this. I know Phil is just doing his job, but I really hope this never gains momentum.
They would never get this through any regulator anyway
I was just reading the email! Trying to pursue acquisitions of Warner Bros, Valve, Zenimax and Nintendo… wow! ![]()
I wonder if they could have realistically achieved Nintendo if they didn’t go after ABK, it definitely would have been a defining moment in gaming. Now that Apple are getting into gaming I can see the acquisitions heating up further.
They can still get Nintendo. Phil is just waiting on the right moment.
Yeah some very interesting things coming out from the FTC blunder, I don’t really want Xbox acquiring Nintendo unless they were facing foreclosure, but WB and Sega definitely peaked my interest.
Phil Spencer: If Nintendo was available, it would be cool if we could acquire them
The Internet: OMG Microsoft is trying to buy Nintendo
i would love it
Honestly with the difficulty they had with ABK even if Nintendo was available I don’t think they could do it.
As much as I hate how expensive Nintendo games are I would rather they brought out their own GamePass equivalent rather than Xbox buy them.
They do so many weird unique things which I think could be lost under MS.
At Christmas I never thought I’d be playing VR with the kids using a headset and bazooka made out of cardboard
!
WB or Valve however… would be very interesting indeed.
If they want to compete with Nintendo’s family friendly IP’s I think Sega is still the way to go!
I have been saying prior to the Switch launch and still maintain, but am less bullish on it, that Nintendo’s really only strength is their publishing and development. I think they consider their “ecosystem” to be their IP and put very little stock in an actual platform ecosystem. I don’t know if I want or care if MS owned them, but I do think they would be much better as a 3rd party publisher. All of the Switch gimmicks (with the exception of convenience of portability) are afterthoughts now, so honestly what will be the legacy of the Switch other than the games.
Sega doesnt even hold candle against nintendo IPs whether u like it or not
The portability is a significant legacy. Prior to Switch, there was no console-quality gaming on a handheld.
I fail to see how this would even be entertained let alone approved. It’s a direct competitor buying another direct competitor (idc what they say, they are competitors).
I think they’re just having fun, mindless thoughts, hypotheticals, etc. And it’s probably something that happens in most companies. Internal Corporate yapping.
well Sony dont think Nintendo is even a competition nd FTC themselves didnt include nintendo in the equation while doing the analysis well…Microsoft is gonna have a hard time acquiring they can only do it if Nintendo fucks up their new console much worse than wii U
The Vita did this, but lacked the library and support.
And the thing about that is, Wii U (or worse) will never happen again for an extremely long time, barring a sudden complete collapse in interest in Nintendo IPs. Nintendo’s content pipeline is now sturdy and very figured out and Switch exponentially grew every Nintendo IP to a huge degree. 2020 (when that document is from) was THE next Switch moment after launching with BOTW.
By the time Nintendo collapses in that way, I’m going to say that Phil, myself, and everyone here will long be dust, lol.
