Xbox Acquisition |OT7| Come on down for your chance to win on “Who will Xbox buy next?!”

I mentioned cable cos it uses wires and is much faster and stable but at the same time expensive. I think Google was at some point laying down something similar. In any case you might be right I just like to wonder.

I have a question and didn’t really know where to put it. Xbox owns both the blue dragon IP and lost Odyssey IP so why aren’t they on gamepass? Can anyone answer this question? Also mist walker had their hands in both titles so if they were acquired would that land the titles in gamepass?

Don’t think anyone knows about this one, only thing I can imagine is licensing issues? But yeah… kinda weird.

Game pass and even publishing deals can be odd. As even if Microsoft owns the those specific original deals wouldn’t have had gamepass terms in place. So they would need to go sit down with the original developers and work out a new publishing contract to add those terms in or just even a gamepass deal for x terms like a 3rd party offer. My guess is unless they plan to do a sequel it isn’t worth the work to do either.

Certain Affinity and Stoic seem to have convinced everyone with their new game. I sincerely think that Microsoft should acquire a dozen of these talented studios after ABK, it would be a shame to lose them. Don’t Nod’s new game (Banishers) also seems to be getting very positive reviews, and Remedy has been creating a lot of excitement with Alan Wake 2. I think it’s time to secure partner studios and bring some new talents in the family. The acquisitions of Crytek, Rebelion, Asobo, IOI, and People Can Fly must become a reality. There is so much potential in this industry. Xbox has some interesting partners and it would be a pleasure to see them grow as a first party.

Microsoft owns the IP, and the games are over a decade old, so I doubt it has anything to do with that. It might be licensing with music or something in the game like the case with the Forza games or maybe they are waiting for something big in Japan. Other Xbox IPs from second party have been included in Game Pass other than Quantum break which was temporarily removed for license’s sake.

I cannot speak for a publishing agreement i haven’t seen.

But being a decade old game would be the reason they wouldn’t be on gamepass, as the original contracts wouldn’t include adding into a streaming service.

This is the reason some titles like crimson dragon, PowerShot golf, lococycle (this was even a first party Xbox game) to name a few as they own all 3 of those ips but are not on gamepass as it’s not worth redoing a contract.

And sometimes there is no surviving entity of interest for the other parties to even pursue for license agreement talks.

I am not sure about people can fly, the people behind painkiller and bulletstorm are now working at the astronauts, and outriders isnt a good game atleast imo

I still think it’s a licensing issue. It was even suggested on reddit that Microsoft might not fully own this IPs, maybe they just owned publishing rights. This could be the case for Blue Dragon which had spin offs on Nintendo DS. It may be similar for the others as well. There were IPs like Infinite Undiscovery that were originally supposed to be published by Xbox but during the Don Mattrick era were reverted to Japanese publishers. Someone also mentioned royalties for Toriyama as he does get some from the Dragon Quest series.

True those guys are now working on Witch fire which seem similar to bulletstorm.

I think they should go for them instead, or atleast publish their next game

Agreed. They are also pretty small now. Perfect time to buy.

They did sign a deal to publish a PcF game, so I guess they are at least working with them in that capacity. Maybe it’ll turn into something if things go well.

The Xbox IP vault thread actually has blue dragon and lost Odyssey listed, I missed it

I really want a bunch of independent studios instead of a publisher next. Everyone talking People Can Fly, I’m definitely on board with that. I really have loved all their games, Bulletstorm, Gears Judgement, Outriders, they were all fantastic sci-fi action games.

I just hope that it will be something else rather than a outriders 2, the budget for it is going to be smaller so maybe it could be a single player shooter like painkiller, because if it is just another live service title then it will be just a waste

Isnt related to acquisitions but who knows if it could end having some, maybe they will be able to grow the division of japan through small acquisitions, afterall japan studios worked with others developers like fromsoft, Clap Hanz, NanaOn-Sha, etc

Maybe they could get some of the ex developers that worked on the studio,

I think this most likely implies that we could be seeing more exclusive Japanese games made by indie, AA, or AAA studios with aid from Xbox Publishing. Could this all lead to acquisitions of some regards? The answer is most likely, however we have to see what this all means in the future. But i would not be suprised if Xbox does acquire small japanese studios do help build a foundation within Japan alongside Tango.
