Xbox Acquisition |OT7| Come on down for your chance to win on “Who will Xbox buy next?!”

That only because Xbox hate, but the only commercials about the game are Xbox ones. We’ll see, the first thing is looking at the game evolution in the coming weeks/months, if they won’t update it fast and well, it will inevitably drop and we don’t know if the team has the resources to do it. I think they were expecting a bigger Craftopia, not the next “cool” thing in videogames.

Steam doesn’t really compete with XBOX all XBOX games are on Steam. Palworld is currently associated with the XBOX console because you can’t play it on Playstation and Nintendo Switch at the moment and XBOX should keep this advantage in my opinion and make it an XBOX console exclusive game in the console market. this could really boost Hardware sales and therefore install more Gamepass

Or do their own “pokemon” type thing within fortnite, I don’t know why it’s taken so long for a decent Pokemon competitor to come along but I wouldn’t be surprised to see other studios jump on the train like they did with shooters, BRs, survival games etc

They are also easy to turn into GaaS type games which are what every pub is after

Yeah, I think epic will either see if they can acquire them because they hit a lot of their checkboxes . If they can’t acquire, then they’ll make a clone

How many copies had Minecraft sold when Microsoft bought Mojang? I don’t particularly agree on the amount to pay (for the moment), but I think it’s worth acquiring them and taking advantage of the success of Palworld to make a great IP. This is a great opportunity to grow in Asia.

Do we know how many developers work at Pocket Pair?

It seems huge to me but we’ll see if Xbox is interested. They have already congratulated the studio on the launch and looking to expand into Asia. I think it’s a good opportunity.

I don’t think EPIC is interested. There are no micro transactions in Palworld.

Microsoft should def take the gamble imo because it checks a lot of boxes they look for like player engagement, multimedia ip, word of mouth, a popular game across the globe, mobile potential , and a product that can provide a gateway to gamepass

I do agree, either way it’s got Tim Epic’s name all over it

Minecraft I believe was much bigger when it was bought, iirc they were at around 50 million but that was years after launch, MS bought them in 2014 and MC launched around 2010? We will have to wait and see if PW has the same longevity but obviously MS saw the vision in Minecraft

I don’t think they’d be buying PW for the same reasons as Minecraft has been put in schools for learning and has infinite possibilities, it’s virtual lego whereas PW is more of a traditional game if that makes sense

As for the studio, I believe they are pretty small, a few dozen people from what iv seen others say

I do think it’s something that has massive potential and like you said, it hits basically everything they’d want it to, especially mobile, it would be an absolute monster on mobile

There’ll probably be a ton of bidding war for this IP. Xbox going for it might anger Nintendo. I also doubt the devs want to sell while things are hot, they might want to think a little before selling. I do think Xbox is doing the best thing at this time by leveraging it in selling Xbox consoles in Asia. This might just the spark they need over there.

They could always do a Nintendo/GameFreak where they own a large portion of the company/IP but not the entire thing but who knows if that’s a direction they’d want to go

Regardless I do think it’s premature talking about this, it’s still very early days despite it being such a crazy success but if MS really see a big future for it like MC then I can see them being interested

I kinda feel like cross media and merchandising opportunities will be extremely limited for Palworld because I don’t know if it’ll ever get past the stigma of being a Pokémon clone. Guess we’ll see if that changes over time.

I think going forward they’ll have made enough money and be able to invest in it that they will be able to give it their own unique identity and have Pals that are more than just the usual Pokemon ripoffs

I mean the Studio generated around 220 million in revenue in 5 days and Palworld has something like 6 million to develop. More than 7 million copies have been sold only on Steam. We don’t know how much the Gamepass generates and unit sales on XBOX. Maybe the game actually exceeded 10 million in 5 days, that’s Absolutely Incredible there are more than 2 million simultaneous players on Steam alone. The game continues to reach one or two milestones of millions of sales per day. I suppose even Billion to buy out the Studio would be a golden deal for the buyer I can see Palworld being worth a lot more. All it takes is for the game to quickly offer a convincing PVP for it to explode

True, that makes sense

Pokemon sold that for twice the price though.

capcom is doing good tho plus it would be hella lot of money to acquire them unless they fuck up really bad

Yes Capcom is an incredible publisher, but an acquisition seems impossible to me. Square Enix is possible because the company is struggling, but nothing is guaranteed. The most realistic publisher acquisition in Japan is SEGA because the company has a great relationship with Xbox, and that would already be a huge win for Microsoft.

SEGA + Square Enix is the ideal “realistic” scenario, but it’s a very optimistic scenario, there’s very little chance Xbox gets both. Getting SEGA and a few Asian studios would already be a big step forward for Asian content. I’m thinking of Platinum Games, CyberConnect2, Marvelous, Pocket Pair, Rabbit and Bear, Neowiz, Pearl Abyss, Arzest, Artplay, Bokeh, Vanillaware… Xbox needs to create Xbox Game Studios Asia and assemble a dream team.

well they might be able to acquire more if they release their games on other platforms and judging by the documents i think thats what they will do acquire pubs and will make their games multiplat nd the gamepass will get their games while also releasing their games on other platforms

More layoffs.

That stinks for both game studios and all their employees. Hopefully they can find employment soon and in the meantime their benefits will still be active.
