About the next Sega games, Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio., I found this on Destructoid.
" According to Bloomberg’s sources, Sega is eyeing a “Fortnite-style” service model for both titles, offering the two high-speed arcade titles as free-to-play games, and littering them with crossover content, microtransactions, multiplayer emphasis, limited-time events, and, presumably, the possible inclusion of blockchain/NFT elements."
Wouldn’t be great if insomniac games got there freedom back and decided to join Xbox Game Studios.
I never played JSR so I dunno but Crazy Taxi does sound like a game that would work better as a F2P type thing
At best you’ll get some unhappy/let go devs joining some Xbox studios
That studio is in the marvel mines for life
This was my worry. They’re going to ruin these franchises with this stuff.
I’m completely okay with FTP Fortnite style whatever you want to call it titles. But they’re trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.
When Bomberman went the Fortnite route it made so much sense. The competitive multiplayer gameplay lent itself well to that. I would argue that Halo lends itself well to a large-scale Battle Royale game. There are certain games that work perfectly.
That’s not the case with Crazy Taxi or Jet Set Radio.
You could probably get away with selling music and clothing/accessories for JSR. I dunno about Crazy Taxi.
Also, probably off topic for this thread
They’ll be for sale before you know it. I don’t know why anyone would still be thinking of blockchain/NFT elements in this day and age. Isn’t this what SE was trying to do. It almost sound like a Japanese thing today as this is about the 3rd Japanese studio I have heard looking into it.
The block chain talk was from the original leaks of these games back in 2022. Since then, Sega has pulled back from blockchain
I really hope so. I’m sure when they originally conceptualized this it was a very different world back then.
Pre-production is a process and I’m sure the gaming world changed even during that time.
But I am skeptical in SEGA’s ability to pivot.
I thought the reveal was good however I wonder if these games will hit. Maximillian liked the reveal but said that crazy Taxi was the exact same game reskinned. Then there is the following.
I don’t think Sega Sammy has the finances to afford any duds. The way I see it Microsoft might wait till next year ending to try their hands at Sega again, by then things should be clearer.
I’m a lifelong Sega fan and I love all of these games, but that reveal trailer left me feeling meh. Nostalgia is great, until you actually play the games. So, we’ll see how they turn out, but I’m keeping my optimism in check.
Same, although is nice to see those games back something feel off, like they just showed a bunch of early concepts in unreal, I wanted to see golden axe back as a 2.5D beat em up instead of a new entry in 3d, the last one was terrible and now streets of rage could suffer that fate aswell
The only one that looks amazing was shinobi
Sega do not have the money to think big considering the inherent costs of AAA. I think those games will be ok AA with AA budget and AA sales, and that’s ok.
The problem is people that remind Sega as a major player, which they are not anymore.
I would actually like to see some good 3d Sega games like street of rage. I mean Capcom does them well and I’d like to see them at that level.
I get that but it is what people want to see from Sega. A fiery spirit from the past re-ignited. I don’t think they need to break the bank triple A games in Japan tend to be relatively cheaper. It would be nice to see someone like Tomonobu Itagaki take a shot at making a 3d streets of rage and Shinobi, he just might be able to change the genre like he did with Ninja Gaiden Black.
Things can change tho, just because a game is AA doesnt mean it will sell bad, just see how lethal company sold more than cod on steam for example, I think thats the route every publisher should follow now
The costs to produce big AAA games is getting way to high to the point that it could risk the future of other titles, having sega returning to create original titles in a AA scale would be a breath of fresh air
Sega doesnt need to be like bethesda or activision blizzard tbh, I just want them to have enough support to try new stuff instead of following the same trend of live service titles like square enix
Loosk like asobo
Presumed by who? That seems like such a weird way to word that.
I am talking about taking a beat em up to 3d like sega did in beast rider, I dont remember capcom doing the same thing with their beat em up franchises
I meant Capcom has been good at bringing their franchises to relevancy, I just compared them as I think they would be the standard most think of especially since many would prefer Capcom. As for the beat em up I said the guy responsible for bringing Ninja Gaiden to 3d Tomonobu Itagaki would be my pick. I think just the way he brought the Ninja Gaiden franchise to 3d with Ninja Gaiden black which I think is one of the best action hack and slash in my opinion.
