it was just an example but 1 thing I think people over look about zenimax is they are private meaning they were a very smart 1st acquisition before the launch of the next gen xbox since they could announce it when ever they wanted rather than within 10 days or the agreement which lead to a lot of push for the next gen xbox from a single tweet just before pre orders
I am not saying it doesn’t help but I think people put way too much weight on that one single part. You said it after but a lot of a ton of IP or brand awareness and those feel like stronger draws if you will that that one segment (that being they are from Japan)
Oh sorry for the late reply @Hue! Thread was moving a bit fast and wasn’t able to see your post in the avalanche of coments
You bring really good points and HOLY HECK!! at the amount of studios Ubisoft has O.o. Its really cool to see they have studios in very different parts of the word and yeah, with an hypothetical MS acquisition they should be able to bring and diversify content to game pass (if this acquisition were to happened I don’t think Xbox would relevate all those studios to just support studios) Its really tow birds in one shot now that I think of it
It also covers the “we want IPS” MS is always saying now when talking about acquisitions.
I have no doubt Ubisoft will be on the table as a acquisition target they just check so many boxes and for the cost at this point they would be foolish not to acquire. As far as a Japanese publisher square in my opinion is not as valid anymore with the sale of the western division and Sega is still has the closest relationship with Xbox, Capcom would be fantastic I just don’t see them being interested in selling or it would have happened even after the monster hunter success
Im going to assume that Activision will continue to grow at a similar pace to current or even accelerated schedule post Microsoft acquisition. More studio acquisitions😎
You can disregard Ubisoft as a possibility, there’s no way the FTC would let them have an illegal monopoly on Heroes of Might & Magic III (aka the greatest game of all time).
Are we really expecting to see activision and/or bethesda making morr acquisition for nee projects instead of just having them for support? Because that would be cool
My pitch on why Avalanche Studios Group makes sense.
1) Signs that MS see value in Avalanche and their games:
Virtually all their games since last-gen have been on Game Pass. Whether the self-published ones or the ones published by Square, WB, and Bethesda
They are partnering with the main team at Avalanche on Contraband
Second Extinction Xbox console exclusive
2) Studios and what they bring
Avalanche Studios: Just Cause, Mad Max, Rage 2, Contraband.
Open-world action games
Expansive Words: The Hunter, The Angler. Open-world simulation games
Systemic Reaction: Generation Zero, Second Extinction. Open-world, live service, co-op, shooter
– They share an open-world dedicated engine, Apex Engine, which seems like a really great open-world engine with flexible tools for different genres and mechanics.
– They have experience across different genres that are popular and would do well on Game Pass, with the proven ability of adapting to a live-service model
But what could hold it back?
Not independent. Parent company Nordisk Film seems interested in gaming growth
They might not own very valuable IP
The price, relative to value (IP) and/or parent company’s asking price
