Xbox Acquisition |OT6| If this is about competition, let us have competition

well they bet on ezra but well they r just making bad decisions since they released BVS cuz they wanted it to be iron vs captain america kinda their fault tbh should have been pretty slow with Man of steel

well disney was doing good till avengers end game now they wanted easy money and they rushed a lot of projects nd crowd also didnt like that cuz the characters they loved wasnt same anymore disney greed or investor is the problem for them but i dont think that acquisition is ever gonna be greenlit

https://twitter.com/Mr_Derivatives/status/1681036000431308800?t=hzKmoyYBzK3RToAWuIHEXQ&s=19

Even thought they are at lows, they are still a $150 markt cap company. The buyout must be at least 200 billion which think no company will do because the break up fee is gonna be huge.

Plus ABK was barely able to go through and experts said there were no problems with this acquisition. Imagine the difficulty with disney .

I think a reasonable acquisition by anyone who wants to enter entertainment right now is warner.

Interesting that Destin mentioned Microsoft going after Take-Two on ILP (although I think tongue in cheek);

https://twitter.com/IdleSloth84_/status/1680701292899979269?t=75pnLQW0T8V3c4oom8rB2A&s=19

PS: Sorry if this has already been posted, I can’t watch ILP live as it’s too long and the trumpet noise every 15 seconds does my head in!

I have been thinking about this and although any of the big publishers are near impossible short term, I would no longer be surprised if MS went after another in 5+ years. Things change so much in just a period of 5 years, just for context PS acquired 11 video game related companies within just two years including Bungie!

Take-Two would make a lot of sense with Zynga, GTA Online, Sports and top quality third person action games. Also Phil and Strauss seem to be on very good terms.

Destin knows nothing, it’s just what he expects to happen, I think he’s way off, MS aren’t touching any of the big 3 EA, T2 or Epic after ABK goes through

Only thing I think would be worth it T2 wise is GTA6 marketing rights so they’d be able to advertise both CoD and GTA6 and watch consoles fly of the shelves but I’m gonna assume Sony has already had that locked down for a while

You’re right though that a lot can change in 5+ years so maybe down the line it might be an option but I imagine MS will have picked up another smaller publisher well before that making another huge publisher even more of a challenge after ABK

I agree there’s no way they go after any of the big ones within the next few years, but who knows what happens. Isn’t PlayStation one of Sony’s most profitable business sectors? They could increase their budget and they could start buying up some of the smaller publishers. Or maybe another big company (Apple, Meta, Amazon) goes after Sony…

In 5 years the gaming landscape could have changed entirely, therefore MS could be looking at another big publisher again. After ABK I genuinely think anything could happen!

nobody is going after sony even u know it

It’s unlikely but I would never rule it out, entertainment is huge. I suspect many said the same thing about the Disney / Fox deal too.

Sony’s market cap is still in the realm of possibility…

Some of these acquisitions are quite old, so when you adjust them for inflation they are 300B+ deals!

Yeah so?those times r not same anymore tho Sony is more than 100billion dollar company don’t think anyone gonna spend 100 billion in these current times

The Raytheon and United Technologies $121bn merger was just three years ago?

It’s not even just the amount though

It’s finding someone that not only has the money to pay and be interested in them but also not be in a position where buying them isn’t a problem for regulators

That’s not going to be a large list

When all big tech r having scrutiny idk how u expect that to happen also Sony is 120billion dollar company expect atleast 140-160 billion i don’t think it’s happening especially apple nd Amazon they r only ones who can afford but but they r also the ones who r getting lot of anti trust cases

I would say Google and Meta could already argue that they don’t have significant Film/TV business or electronic goods. Google obviously has revenue from Mobile gaming but not console gaming which would be same argument we have just seen with ABK. Equally Apple and Amazon could argue similar even though they do have a small presence in both film and gaming.

It doesn’t even necessarily have to be an ‘big company’ acquisition, we have seen some very large mergers recently. When you start considering the companies which are of similar size to Sony the list starts getting bigger…

Again I don’t think it’s likely, just saying it’s still possible…

google nd meta arent entering those field and they didnt anything that they r interested tho

Sorry I don’t understand, why wouldn’t they be interested? Regardless it doesn’t even need to one of the ‘Big Tech’, there are plenty of smaller companies in the 100-300B range which might want to merge… for example Comcast.

Anyway this is going really off topic, I was just trying to say anything is possible in 5 years… don’t rule things out at face value.

Just a quick reminder: this is the Xbox Acquisition OT. Sony has its own thread and if tangents need further elaboration, we can always make a new thread.

As for Destin’s prediction… someone a little closer to home pretty much had MS’ final acquisition targets down to a T years before it was revealed :yum: . Mind you, not because of insider information, but due to listening to Phil and co over the years and making educated assessments on the targets that help further those goals.

What does Sir @Knottian think MS are going to go after next?

Many of the areas Phil mentioned are covered by ABK for example: Mobile, Kids (he said E-Rated content) and PC.

I still feel the kids angle isn’t solved, yes they will have Toys 4 Bob (and new IP) but they will need more family studios to make them .I don’t think they are finished with Mobile either… it’s where all the cash is.

SEGA & Rovio look inticing :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:.

I am convinced that Microsoft intended to acquire Take Two before ABK. Now the plans have probably changed, it’s hard to imagine Microsoft acquiring Take Two after ABK because of the regulators, but if Microsoft gets it right, Xbox will be the king of the industry.

Regarding the needs of XBOX, I think SEGA covers most of them. Microsoft has a big opportunity to seize with the PC market, so Paradox could be a very interesting acquisition. Capcom is attractive but unfortunately seems inaccessible. Warner is a great opportunity to enter the television and film market if Microsoft so desires.

SEGA is obvious, the real surprise would be that SEGA is not the next publisher to be acquired lol

Next move is gonna be Universal & EA Entertainment merging and Microsoft buying EA Sports
