Xbox Acquisition |OT6| If this is about competition, let us have competition

Thats just an excuse for the court. I wouldnt take it as gospel.

Excited about Crystal Dynamic and Eidos joining MS. They are big studios

It seems to me that mobile acquisitions are likely to be a focus based on the belief that it is a big highly profitable growth area. This provides stability to all areas for Microsoft Gaming.

Aside from that, there is no real area to challenge such an acquisition. This means that even a large mobile gaming acquisition is likely to fly through. Theres simply no way to even fake a challenge at such an acquisition.

One that Im keeping an eye on for potential acquisition is Machine Zone Inc. They have a lot of success with mobile games and are still a private company that would be worth billions. They are one of the few remaining mobile only game publishers that is worth billions and based in the US.

This court case has hopefully explained to Nick what I tried saying so many times. Xbox is not allowed to behave like Sony does, because they’re watched like hawks forever. Anything they do can and will be used against them in the judicial system for the rest of time after they were litigated against in the late 90’s/2000s.

Sorry what do you mean, didn’t they miss out to Embracer?

I would absolutely love for them to join XGS, Xbox really need the type of games they make in their first party portfolio.

They are on loan

Yeah, when they were asking MS those questions, the only thought that was going through my mind was if all these content parity clauses, exclusives were such a big deal, why didn’t the FTC bother to have even a small look at Sony who has been abusing their position for the longest time. Every question could have been turned around on Sony and would have looked way worse. But no, let’s stop the 3rd place players from doing similar things.

They didn’t have any good questions left for the FF16 and Spiderman answers from Phil. What a pointless waste of time the FTC is, can’t see the CMA doing any better. Hopefully the deal can close soon, so we can move on to more exciting things.

You mean the existing CD - Perfect Dark and Eidos - Fable deals?

For a minute I thought there was a chance Xbox was acquiring them.

I think they are assuming that Xbox will buy them from Embracer.

Nothing new happened other that Microsoft (potentially) trying to buy them back in 2020.

People keep underestimating the intentions of MS, Paradox makes good games but it’s not something that excites the vast majority. The case of MS dismissing Zynga demonstrates this.

SE west was not a publisher, probably referring to the Capcom rumor

Paradox fits in very well for the genre they develop and MS’s PC GamePass reach.

plus Paradox has a lot of DLC for their game which as we know is what MS want they give us the base game but you want more get the DLC which isn’t included

I could see Paradox being really really interesting under Xbox - you could already make a “Paradox subscription service” or treat their games as a live service platform. While it doesn’t necessarily fit how Xbox handles DLC and gamepass typically - I could see Paradox being adapted to gamepass really well if they made DLC part of the gamepass subscription while continuing to charge for cosmetic stuff.

Plus they don’t seem to be huge? I always assume any Paradox acquisition discussion is on top of any other publishers discussed. The only major downside is that they rely on external developers for a lot of projects which potentiallly limits their value for acquisition.

Also Zynga but in the mobile market, ABK covers both Paradox with Blizard and Zynga with King.

Paradox would cost half of what Zenimax cost. I don’t see MS buying Paradox because it’s cheaper for them to sign deals for GamePass which Paradox does.

If this deal still fails, I am super curious to see what they go after next. Although they probably will stay away from truly big ones, I doubt they are looking forward to shit like this again.

Imagine if they had acquired SE, lmao.

I’d like to see the publisher that Jez is talking about being Sega.

I know they might not fit the traditional sense of what we think of a publisher, but CD Projekt has said they want to be a publisher and maybe with MS backing them, they could be the Polish publisher that watches over several future companies from Poland, that get added to CDP.
