Xbox Acquisition |OT6| If this is about competition, let us have competition

Warner bros is entering into very cheap levels. Could we see someone buying them? They are worth now 35~ billion.

Please Microsoft just buy them already.

I feel like that would be monopoly territory with both DC and Marvel under the same roof. Plus if that was to happen you never would get lesser known Marvel characters, because why make a movie about Sentry or Gladiator, when you can do the man himself, Superman.

I have been saying it for a while, buy the entire division add WB/Disc/HBO and all of their video content to Gamepass raise the price to $25 a month. They would own DC outright let the movie/tv side run fairly independently while adding everything to the streaming service and use that enormous stockpile of IP to make games. They would get WBE in it’s entirety and would have more than enough licenses for them to work on whatever they want.

That’s because Sony’s had mystery. If Xbox acquired Capcom and everyone was predicting SF6 and RE. It wouldn’t be as hyoe because the surprise is ruined.

I dislike the new only show stuff in the next 12 months format though. I liked it more when they could sprinkle in surprise anouncements even if far off and yes even cgi trailers.

Yes it would also work in reverse the gaming IP could be used to make new shows. I think eventually this will happen. Either Disney gets a big publisher or MS gets someone like WB. There is too much synergy between the services.

Unless they focus on in that specific genre which I doubt they would I think it would be fine (granted i doubt disney will buy them, I think someone like amazon is more likely too but disney would be funnier). Also the problem with Microsoft is we don’t know if they have any intrest in entering the moving industry as of now. Its not impossible but we should act like are definitely intrested

Situation with WB is very very weird. Debt is the issue, but do wonder how it’s gonna end.

If Microsoft ever want to enter into the general streaming market their one of the best chances are now. Either grab WB or Paramount and then Spotify.

Elon Musk will buy them

Get WB + Paramount , merge them and become the Fourth legit streaming Service.

Then use ressources in a “Sony” way, (common tech for Games & Movies, share licence between the Movies/Series & Games division).

Create a Microsoft Divertisment Pass with GPU + Streaming Service ( if each cost 15$, get the booth for 25$/mounth)

Put the Video Games studio from the WB into the Xbox division (they can share tech, get support and do games that are not WB related if they wan’t to).

WB could be massive but they need their own Kevin Feige to do a proper DC roadmap with big crossover events. They literally have 3 Jokers ATM, Jared Leto, Joaquin Phoenix and Barry Keoghan.

They have so many family friendly franchises that they could be huge I just feel they are mismanaged.

That said personally I feel if they wanted streaming they would have gone after Netflix and Spotify by now. Imagine if MS relaunched a new smart phone with Spotify, Netflix and GamePass integrated.

well Netflix was between 150 to 300B market cap in the last years. (No it has go down to 86B, and still go down)

WB is 33B now and 1.5B for Paramount

But WB has a better “back” catalogue than netflix, in term of IP.

(I agree that WB should be reworked a lot, not only on DC, that was reboot too many time to do Marvel , but they need to do other stuff from HP licence (where the hell is the adaptation of HP in animated picture that could do the entire book story not just the moovie one? )

Paramount is 17b

I would be pleased if Xbox acquired all of WB and made a super pass for GP/HBO combined.

Sadly because we all would like it and it makes sense I’m compelled to think it won’t happen. I do believe however Xbox has another big move to make for its future of gaming. Could be buying lots of single studios, a publisher, partnerships or yes WB.

For me if you want GP to reach Titan level heights you need non-hardcore gamer focused IP. Sadly Xbox doesn’t like using others IP, which I guess leads us all to the idea of buying WB.

If it won’t happen, then it means it does not make sense. There is a difference between what we like and what makes sense.

I remember reading a while back that the HP rights are not that straightforward. Warner Bros are very limited in how they can use the characters in a story, as the character rights are ultimately still with JK. Also I think there’s only 2-3 years left on the current agreement.

Technically though I agree WB do have more well established franchises compared to Netflix - I agree. Also looking at the numbers HBO isn’t as far behind Netflix as I thought it would be in number of subscribers.

I suspect it’s already too late, most of the studios have probably been sold to numerous parties by now anyway.

I think Sky Showtime would impact this though

SkyShowtime will bring together decades of direct-to-consumer experience and the very best entertainment, movies, and original series from the NBCUniversal, Sky and ViacomCBS portfolio of brands, including titles from SHOWTIME, Nickelodeon, Paramount Pictures, Paramount+ Originals, Sky Studios, Universal Pictures, and Peacock.

This isn’t a studio acquisition but I hope Microsoft can find a way to partner with the developers working on The Last Case of Benedict Fox in the future. They have a great art style and intresting gameplay that reminds me of Ori but with a darker tone to it.

And maybe they could be a great studio to work on an Ori sequel after the situation with Moon Studios.

Now that I think about it, does not WB also has issues with Aquaman 2 actress and Flash actor too? It will also cause losses for them.

I think there is a high chance of WB being bought by somebody at this point. I wonder if Apple will go for it.
