Do you think that with xbox support, studios like ubisoft pune and mumbai are going to do better? I am still sad that they arent longer working on the prince of persia remake, and sure it is for the best since the game didnt look good, but I still hope that ubisoft will let them prove theirselves again before putting them as support studios again
I think with MS backing/funding a lot of things would be possible.
Ubisoft has unfortunately had a long run of bad management decisions, lack of funding and in many ways just bad luck.
People forget just over a year ago they were a $12 billion company instead of the $3.4 billion they are today. There’s so much value at Ubisoft which simply gets written off.
Interesting note about potential mobile developers that MS are scouting and the Genshin news recently, Shift Up, the studio that is making Project Eve aka Stellar Blade that new PS5 exclusive just released a new mobile game called NIKKE Goddes of War.
It’s a gacha game with waifus similar to Genshin but with more fan service. It became the top game in Japan and Korea and is 10th in US mobile stores.
It’s Notable because it literally overtook the big Japanese games something not many other games but Genshin could do.
Not sure if the studio is in MS radar but I bet it’s definitely in Sonys now.
It’s very interesting that and wants mobile game developers and games like Genshin. I don’t think MS would ever try to go in for fan service games but I feel like that’s the only games that tend to get popular in the East and although MS may not know, what they are looking for.
As far as popular mobile games in the West I feel like that’s very unpredictable. Who would have guessed games like Flappy Bird would be popular.
In the gacha world, you need to make the characters desirable so that people will keep rolling for them on gacha spins. That’s why fanservice and waifus are so prevalent in this business. Nikke absolutely went all on it lol (it’s “Jiggly Butts: The Video Game”) There is some gachas, like Arknights that don’t go much into fanservice and are still huge successes though
Tango recently learned how cutthroat the gacha industry is. Their gacha was only open for like 4 my months and then it shut down.
Chiming in once again to say MS is considering both single studios AND publishers for potential acquisition. It’s not an either or thing.
I think most of all it’s just going to come down to timing and opportunity - I’m sure there’s studios they are looking at but if the right publisher decides it’s time to sell then Microsoft is hardly going to miss out on that opportunity.
And it’s most likely the studios will still be available after even a large publisher acquisition.
I rather them buy individual studios instead of big publishers imho. Less layoffs that way usually and far less time and money for the deal to actually go thru.
Cool going forward, MS will most likely do both with studios being the way more common acquisition.
Well there are more studios than publishers anyway
Here comes netflix, jk but seriously I am excited for this, netflix has done several good productions based on videogames(aswell bad), I hope this end being something great for gears https://mobile.twitter.com/BenjiSales/status/1589697565452570625
We agree my friend. Ubisoft is probably the best acquisition Microsoft can make after ABK. The advantages are obvious and the price is ridiculous. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has sold over 20 million copies, and it has other IPs that sell over 10/15 million, making it a major publisher in the market. It is obvious that such an acquisition would boost the interest of gamers for Xbox, especially if some of these titles become exclusive to the console. I will be very surprised if Microsoft is not interested in it. It’s just a hunch, but I think the deal with Tencent is just a way to buy time until 2024.
Ubisoft owns the biggest Indian studio. Pune is gigantic and I am convinced that very interesting games could be created with time and freedom. Microsoft can offer them that and allow them to work on small creative projects that are influenced by Indian culture. Ubisoft is really a great way to expand into certain countries with large teams already established.
I am convinced that the company would quickly regain this value if Microsoft bought it. The potential to be exploited is incredible. Even offering a 100% bonus would be a good deal.
I agree, but I think publishers are a priority because they deliver more benefits in less time. But it is obvious that some studios absolutely have to be bought sooner or later.
I’m more excited about the animated series than the movie. Live-action adaptations of video games are often underwhelming, and I’ll be amazed if a universe like Gears is properly adapted by Netflix.
I agree, maybe the remake was to much for them and hearing that they are the biggest studio in india sounds like they have to much potential, also is not related but it would be neat if xbox published the next game from Nodding Heads Games(raji)
Gotta be honest, I am arfraid that they end making it look like the inside job show, I am not asking for a anime artstyle but something that fit well with the gears brand, meanwhile with the live action movie they definitely need to give a call to bautista, aswell they should put people that actually like those games instead of doing another the witcher case
Yes, it has more than 1200 employees.
Best cast:
- Bautista (Marcus)
- Dwayne Johnson (Dom)
- John Cena (Baird)
- Terry Crews (Cole)
But we probably won’t get any of that, other than Bautista if he’s still interested.
Geez dude, thats to much potential, the culture in india is rich and xbox could help expanding the videogame developer scene there aswell every other country that ubisoft is
Personally I will prefer a latino as Dom but thats just my opinion, anyways thats a great list

I feel like with both of these comments from Phil guarantees MS will be very soon going on a buying spree and more particularly on individual studios.
So l’d say it will be several and them be very soon announced, right after the ABK deal goes through.
Acquisitions do not produce games out of thin air either. It still takes years to get the games out.
Yep it’s inevitable!
The thing is it’s better to over deliver on providing 1 of those big AAA games each quarter rather than under deliver.
It is currently very clear how volatile the game industry is, delays happen more often than not, therefore the only way they can guarantee that quarterly target is to continue to expand.
It’s one reason I always champion a potential Ubisoft acquisition as it’s not uncommon for them to release 3-4 AAA games each year.
To be fair sumo could have also helped with releasing several titles each year, is a shame that xbox let em go, hope they will not make the same mistake twice with ubisoft, because seriously nobody is as massive and diverse as them to push gamepass
I never said it does, but clearly Phil can see that Xbox needs more first party games to boost Game Pass and that there can be unforseen things that make games get delayed, like Covid, so you’ll need more games to circumvent issues like that.
