I still don’t understand how people can deny this.
It’s like Phil’s words are being completely ignored.

I would be shocked though.
The point is that they will have a solution for that and that will be an acquisition. Personally the best scenario is to make a strategic alliance with SE (with their cloud (lol) ambitions Microsoft could offer sweet Azure deal) and Capcom acquisition. Checkmate.
If Microsoft owned some movie production capabilities, they would be even more attractive partner because they would have ties with gaming, movies and they would own cloud infrastructure.
If I was not short of money, I would not strike a deal at all. Why would any company limit the growth of their own IP?
I don’t believe that, I think it’s a pipe dream tbh
Remake of anything above F2 will require the amount of work comparable to making a new game.
As I explained in my reply if they are going to get the bulk of their sales there anyway why not take a payday on top?
Once Xbox have a equal (or atleast fair) percentage of market share it’s going to be less likely they are going to do that because of things like limiting audience base etc.
The point is that they won’t be able to grow their IP if they limit its growth. People who buy the game on Playstation would have bought it on Playstation anyway, but by not selling the game on Xbox and PC (it is crazy to think that SE even skipped PC) they literally limited their IP to the same people who would have bought on PS with or without versions for other platforms.
And if SE was owned by Sony that would be fine, but they are not so basically they made a brain dead decision.
Remember that the variety is found far beyond the development region. My argument was only about acquisitions of publishers, there’s nothing stopping them from buying Japanese studios.
An example for Japan: Platinum Games has announced that it wants to expand to more than 1,000 employees. You buy the studio which is at a low price, you develop Tango in the same way (+ 700), and you obtain a Japanese division centered on these 2 studios (which know each other) without going through a publisher acquisition. Result: You didn’t spend a lot of money and you weren’t bothered by regulators.
But they generate a lot more money than other publishers (need a comparative table of income by publisher). I think that after ABK, the cost of purchase is no longer an element to be taken into account. We must rather be interested in what the purchased company will bring to Microsoft.
What games are jumping Xbox in this region and how many units are these games selling for?
Ubisoft is the publisher that covers the most genres in the catalog. I think that Microsoft will continue to want to reach as many players as possible with large companies, that said, I may be wrong.
Nope
Again, are we just going to ignore Phil’s previous statements regarding Japanese games and content?
Not to mention Game Pass specifically highlights some major Japanese franchises in its adverts in that region specially? (Yakuza and DQ iirc)
Plus add onto the fact the last Xbox showcase, Phil only discussed Japanese content. Wo Long, Persona, Kojima partnership.
Is Japan their #1 target? No, I don’t believe anyone is saying that. Saying they’re not a priority though is bananas.
I don’t see them going after Embracer at all.
The point is to own the means of production so that a publisher won’t decide arbitrary to skip Xbox (or due to the interference from other party).
Being bothered by regulators is not a problem and regarding money you should decide if Microsoft cares about money or not
Consistency is important
Well, I mean if it is a priority then it is a target number 1 no?
Priority doesn’t always mean #1.
Such as the terms “High Priority”, “Low Priority”, etc. indicate.
My point is a $50 billion acquisition is going to bring more to Microsoft than a $5 or $8 billion acquisition so comparing them in the context of investing in the east or west is not really a fair comparison. The folks that thinks any of these publishers are comparable to EA would probably also say the same of ABK.
I’m not saying the money is a deterrent, if they are willing to spend that money then they should.
The fact that they want to develop in Japan absolutely does not mean that they will necessarily acquire a publisher there. Like I said in my example, they could very well do something big with Platinum and Tango.
What is also important is knowing how to differentiate between two messages. One is about a publisher that will earn you billions every year, the other is about a studio that will bring you diversity of content
However, I am still waiting for your figures since you seem to have some information. You also seem to think that what made Microsoft buy ABK was their statement about family games (which they are no longer developing) and not the huge revenues they earn every year. So I invite you to develop.
We don’t trust Platinum so using them as a key focus ain’t gonna help your point lol
@NierlyCrazy, did you know everyday I look in the acquisition forum and cry because no Japan list yet
The wait will be worth it, whoever it ends up being.
Me neither, that was just an example lol
Finally, we will see over time which of our analyzes was the most accurate.
I’d like them to focus on some up and coming studios in Japan. Theyve got a relationship with Rabit and Bear, seal that relationship and acquire them.
lol I actually made a whole OneNote list on Friday.
Just trying to figure out how to make it a cohesive read. Lmao
Figures of what?
What? I have been constantly saying that Microsoft is going after big IPs with high engagement value. They have been saying that they wanted more family friendly content for ages too. They also wanted to enter mobile space. They also want diversity of IP and some PC presense for Game Pass.
And ABK does all of it. They get big IP with high engagement values (Diablo, Wow, COD), they get family friendly content (and even IP with Toys for Bob, Crash, Spyro etc.), they also enter mobile space (with King and they have always wanted it) and Blizzard has a stash of IP for PC. And not to mention all those IPs that ABK has. Before ABK, they wanted to acquire Bungie and it is quite telling because they literally could buy all other studios that people constantly mention here (and they would not even require notifying FTC because studios like Platinum etc. are less than 100m).
Rather than revenue MS goes after anything that can drive MAU for their platform. Bring more exclusive content, bring more diverse content etc. And no matter what people say, Microsoft did not show any indication that they are interested in multiplatform development (they very reason they pulled out from Bungie deal) and unless it is GaaS support, they avoild multiplatform releases regardles of “leaving the money on the table”.
It is something they are probably considering but its one of the biggest requests by the xbox community (more Japanese games on xbox) so it makes sense that something talked about more often than the other stuff. They have mentioned other focus’s though like wanting more E rated content, franchises with strong legacies, games with longjevity and games with high playercounts.
fair but that new Yakuza game was exclusive for a bit, I could see it but we will see
do they? cos the major holes that come to mind are JRPG (no fix), fighters (they have brawlhalla but its really niche), Visual Novels (no fix), sports games (they have steep but not really what I was refering too), hack and slashes (no fix) and maybe horror since evil within is pretty niche (no fix). Hell even some of the smaller holes like arcade games don’t really have a fix, they fix rythem though cos the rabbids cames and just dance. So like 1 definite fix and arguably 1 weak fix with brawlhalla. I don’t see that
neither do I but it fits with the verity check box
