Xbox Acquisition |OT5| Talking Exclusively About Xbox Acquisitions

Making their own sports games is not a viable options these days IMO. Despite the obviously deep pockets the barrier to entry with all of the logistical problems in trying to doing so would result in basically burning at minimum hundreds of millions of dollars to most likely fail.

Modern sports are as close as it can get to mobile F2P games in that regard.

Yeah, there is probably a good reason that there is basically one player per sport. But having sports on your subscription service would be huge.

yeah but aside from sport which fifa is getting rebranded so I don’t see why the other sports games can’t also just get rebranded what IPs hinge on licensing which would really make the acquisition not worth it…the only thing which may have an argument is star wars.

Bruh, Sports games are some of the best selling games every year, I doubt they will scrap that. Its like saying call of duty or battlefield would go free to play because most of the money comes from microtransactions

EA is the best move out there if they can successful make it short of acquiring Playstation or Nintendo. They’d have no competition for shooters and rpgs guranteed, add family friendly content, make more moves in mobile publishing, add several genres and put sports day 1 in Gamepass.

I still believe Sega or Square is the correct play though being that I don’t think can get EA through regulators.

More people spending in MTX > sales in retail. Between option of giving access to more people to play the game (thus bringing up those who would not buy the game) and just milking the same people every year, companies will go with the former.

After all if the game is F2P - people are more likely to spend the money on it. And more likely to try it. The hardliners that buy the game every year - will be there anyway.

I don’t think Sega is happening, so I stick with Square Enix.

they wouldn’t get a complete hold on WRPG’s, they would if they acquired Ubisoft, but their hold of FPS would be insane, out of the big FPS they would own like 85% of them I want to say. EA doesn’t have much in family rated content though…unless you count the sports games I guess, they would definitely have a big push into mobile and out of the big sports games they would be day 1 into game pass but I think the appealing part is the monster hold on the FPS genre (aka the most popular genre in gaming), it would be a move which could result in forcing sony to put game pass on PS

yeah they attract the whales, like wasn’t their confirmed state by EA that only 20% of people playing the sports games spend money on micro transactions, I will need to find the quote

When I am talking about FIFA I do not mean only FIFA license but FIFPro license too (which all those club licenses).

Ubisoft makes sandbox games not wrpgs.

No, the quote was

https://www.cbr.com/fifa-ea-ultimate-team-microtransactions/

Basically 30% of all revenue of EA came from MTX in a single game (Ultimate Team in FIFA)

…I maybe getting RPG and RPG eliments confused IDK

Plants versus zombies is massive as is The Sims.

It is crazy how Ubisoft ruined open world and RPG terms altogether with their games

It was a different article

Yeah I think EA is a great buy personally and besides like…respawn I don’t care for them

All in all, F2P will bring more people to the game - thus more people will start spending money on MTX.

EA has a pretty good line up ahead, between Dead Space, Skate 4, Dragon Age 4, Fallen Order 2 (and anything else Respawn is making) it actually might be their best output in a long time. At least since…well, the last time they had Dead Space, Dragon Age and Skate coming out. Plus their sports games - in particular Fifa (or whatever they name it when they lose their license) day one on gamepass will be a strong move in the regions that like that sorta sports ball. Pretty sure you’d flip the UK market in one move with that one.
On top of all that you have their great work with EA Originals, franchises like The Sims (Sims 5 tailored for Gamepass PC would be killer), Command and conquer and so on - and basically a massive chunk of racing games between Criterion and Codemasters. EA would be a really strong buy. I do think there would be better buys in terms of line-up diversity and with EA Play already on gamepass you pretty much get a decent amount of the games as is anyway. But still, solid buy.

once again, I will need to find the article but it said only something like 10% of people spent money on microtransactions so it means they attract the whales who will just dump money into the game

The games should deliver first. I personally don’t trust Bioware much. And after BF2042, I don’t trust EA (and of course DICE) either.

It doesn’t matter who. The point is that 30% of the whole EA revenue (whole company revenue) came from MTX in a single FIFA mode. So more people playing FIFA - by having it F2P - means more people spending the money in MTX. Whether you call them whales or not - does not matter. F2P means more people will try the game and some new people might become “whales” too.

the thing is with buying EA, MS would be buying them solely to stop someone else from buying from buying them, if that be apple, disney, google, facebook, whoever

Betafield has always been a thing and time for a hot take…bioware has never been great, I have tried to get into mass effect multiple times and it just…bores the shit out of me NGL

They were good. JE, ME1, ME2, DAO are still great and playable (only probaby JE feels slightly outdated).

Recently started playing DA:O and I do miss such games where you can literally kill all your companions depending on your choices (and not by doing stupid things). And DA:O was considered little bit lightweight RPG even (at that time at least)
