No denying this. Japan and Korea especially are very strong markets for their own regions and globally too, and it’s important to invest there. And yep, agree that they don’t have the best cultural foundations if at all, and that’s why acquisitions just make that… easy.
MS will contract, invest and fund when it comes to Japan. Maybe they acquire Platinum
If its another western publisher acquisition I believe it will be Paradox, Ubisoft or WB. I don’t believe they can get another 60 billion dollar acquisition through (thats where EA and Take 2 will be in 3 years when they’d actually be ready to attempt that).
There are two or three facts at play that you for some reason ignore: Microsoft is all in and willing to pay and their priority is acquisitions. It’s not impossible to acquire in Japan. And Japan is a big market that also extends globally.
How do you see all these and still think it’s a no-no?

The Japanese publishers have no interest in selling? Like literally none.
MS want games from there, which is why they will invest and fund etc.
Seriously they have spent close to 100bn so far and not a single dollar has been in Japan.

Big week for Japanese game announcements. Look what none of them are hitting.
With the current level of investment to Asia/Japan from Xbox (I would describe it as “okay”) I just do not think they are eyeing a publisher there. Let’s at least see an XGS published game from the region first.

I just use common sense. I look at MS moves over the last few years how they are just about managing to get JP games on thier system due to constant negotiations. You dont go from this to spending billions on a publisher lol.

I completely agree. Like I said just above we haven’t even seen any XGS Japan games yet and yet MS is supposedly gonna soon drop billions on a publisher there (and if it’s not specifically Capcom also put in the effort to clean house so that it’s just a gaming company and not an anime/media conglomerate)?

You don’t know a Japanese companies perspective on selling or not though, so I just wouldn’t include angles in a post that can’t be backed up.

Exactly. Like Sega, Capcom, SE, they operate in so many areas MS have no interest in.

Plus, I’m not saying it’s happening now or soon, but it’s gotta happen, eventually, this generation too. You’re saying it’s not gonna happen.
The reasons you think MS don’t buy in Japan are the reasons I think they will; because a publisher acquisition directly fixes so many of those shortcomings and gives them a base and a network in Japan that will make getting more Japanese games on their platform also easier.

I had a good idea MS would get Bethesda yea, I was laughed off Era and banned from Gaf for it. Also mocked in the discord.
ABK took me by suprise, however it showed me what MS plans are and reafirmed what the targets are.
