They should go after a japanese publisher.

I agree. It would be great to see more JRPG’s.

True. And also it would increase the support among other japanese developers too.

disagree on that one. SEGA in my opinion is the weakest out of the 3 realistic targets but thats just me. We can all have our own opinions though, but comparing them. Square holds an insane amount of weight in Japan owning franchises like Dragon Quest, Nier, Final fantasy and making kingdom hearts, they also own tomb raider which is massive while capcom owns the face of 4 genres (ace attorney, DMC, street fighter and resident evil) with other massive IPs such as monster hunter and megaman. I don’t think SEGA stacks up against that personally

We’re well aware of your opinion on the subject, not every counterpoint requires another 10-page diatribe from you, especially when you’ve ignored data provided to back up those counterpoints.

data showing SEGA would be a better buy than Capcom or Square cos I don’t recall seeing that, but we are here to discuss our opinion, those opinions will natrually repeat because these topics will come up multiple times and considering my opinion on Ubisoft being acquired did a full 180, safe to say I am not just unable to change my opinion

respectfully disagree

fair

Data proving how popular some of their series are compared to a bevy of the IP you mention from Capcom or Square; the Total War series is a consistent high seller, more than the majority of IP from either aforementioned publishers. The point being that a lot of you talk about diversifying IP, which arguably Xbox already does better than any other first-party, but then you focus only on Japanese content, specifically JRPGs that haven’t sold in high numbers for nearly 15 years. All of this matters when you’re talking about whether Microsoft deems something worth the investment, and aside from the historic relationship, Sega has a lot more to offer in terms of diversity and reach without putting all the eggs in one metaphorical basket (PC is very much part of the strategy for Xbox as well).

I was talking about breaking into Japan not diverity of IPs, if we are talking about diversity I would give it to Capcom as they fill a lot of holes and SEGA obviously beats Square. Like comparing capcom to SEGA they fill similar holes but Capcom just has the bigger franchises more often

Done more research into SEGA. They definitely have more genre veriety but a lot of the franchises are currently dead, granted they could be revived. That being said if Capcom does share a genre (which isn’t uncommon, Capcom has a lot veriety too) with SEGA most of the time, not always, Capcom had the bigger/more iconic franchise. capcom had the more popular IP so I guess it depends on what you think Microsoft would place more value on, more veriety of less known IPs or incredibly icon games/franchises within their genre. Personally I think Microsoft would prefer bigger names because that would push more game pass subscriptions

If Xbox acquire Sega, we can expect many old franchise coming back. Granted, I’m only basing on Phil’s hope when acquiring Activision, but if he does bring back old franchise, let alone ones that aren’t so old such as Crash and Spyro, then hope for Sega’s old franchises to return will rise.

With all that said, who owns House of the Dead and Panzar Dragoon? I’m only asking because of the recent remakes.

SEGA owns them, house of the dead was actually actively running if I am not mistaken but is primarily an arcade series. In terms of their old franchises coming back, its hard to say, I think some of the more beloved stuff like jet set radio, Golden Axe, Nights, panza dragoon, Space Channel 5 ect. but the more known stuff I would imagine would stay dead.

I see. I asked about the owner is because the recent remakes are published by someone else. Also, I’m beginning to think they should get someone else work on them.

Bruh most of SEGA’s franchise recent revivals have been from fans lol, them not publishing those games is intresting though

Ah I see. I wasn’t aware of that. I guess Sega’s hands are clean from screwing up remakes.

not exactly, they remade a lot of Yakuza games and remastered sonic colours (sonic colours ultimate). They just seem to not have faith in dead franchises but lets the fans make new games

Oh yeah. That’s right. Though aren’t Yakuza ones are pretty good? I see what you mean about old franchises. I know Capcom is now testing water with the fighting collection one to see if they should go back and do another. It’s like these companies are afraid to risk and I can understand. Money is easy to lose, hard to gain.

I do commend SEGA with how they have been handling it though, they are clearly supporting their fanbase, they are giving those fans a chance to make money off said games and they are also able to garage reception from said fan games. Its really pro consumer
