There’s also embracer group, who in the same vein as Tencent seem to simply want to own stakes in everything, not make radical changes to any of the companies. I half think one or two of the tech companies might follow a similar pattern while trying to push their own services, maybe Amazon or Google - but it’s hard to say. They would also more than likely exert some level of control. Apple or Facebook may be more of a concern, if Apple makes a push for their own console or Facebook repurposes a team for VR production.
I wasn’t singling you out or anything like that. Your post went perfect with the other post I quoted because for me, it’s all about Xbox and PlayStation. No interest in any other gaming platform out there.
From Software games aren’t for me either so im hoping neither Microsoft or Sony acquire them. Hehehe. I understand what you mean by driving you away from the platform but that’s why I always have a primary gaming console (Xbox Series X) and a secondary exclusives only gaming console (PlayStation 5). I have switched primary gaming consoles three generations in a row and four out of the last five.
I don’t mind either brand acquiring studios and/or publishers, im just always hoping that they’re studios/publishers that I want them to acquire. Hehe.
Surprised not to see NBA on there, it’s one of their biggest games behind GTA.
I know so many here want Sega but they have nothing for me. Lost Judgment will probably be the only Sega game for me this generation and it’s only on my list because 2021 was a mostly empty/dead year for me personally.
As for Capcom, I would love to see Microsoft acquire them but I don’t see anyone buying them barring a massive disaster happening because ever since RE 7, they have been red hot. And if that leak from about 18 months ago is legitimate which I believe it is, they will be staying hot for at least this generation.
Don’t know what your interest level is with Dead Rising but I only played DR 3 and to be perfectly honest, im hoping the series stays dead. They have new RE and even in first person, I will take this over DR and REmakes plus I wish they would bring back Dino Crisis instead. Infected Dinos would be great with today’s tech.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Tencent eventually created their own subscription service.
That said China seems to be cracking down on gaming lately which keeps knocking down Tencents stock prices.
How is xboxs relationship with rebellion studios? They seem like a good pickup
Do you think PCF was a possible aquistion target for Microsoft back when Gears of War Judgement was being made?
Do you mean Rebellion Developments with the Sniper Elite series and Judge Dredd?
No idea, Xbox wasn’t really acquiring back then
I would be, they mostly seem interested in holding investments in foreign firms - not actually taking an active role in them. Just from the Western side there’s no real cohesion in these investments that could help them put together a subscription platform - it’s a lot of minor stakes and free to play studios and such. They’d have to start making major moves like picking up publishers to go in a unified service route.
Activision spokesperson gives statement to ArsTechnica for the story about the Political Peacocking letter @ Report: US Senators urge FTC to scrutinize Microsoft/Activision merger [Updated] | Ars Technica
On Tuesday, the federal court approved a settlement agreement between Activision Blizzard and the EEOC that includes an $18M fund to compensate eligible claimants and to bolster enhancements to policies, practices, and training to prevent harassment and discrimination in the workplace, among other commitments. The company is committed to a safe and equitable working environment for all employees and has invested significant resources to ensure we’re creating a model for the industry. The transaction between Microsoft and Activision Blizzard will not interrupt any of the actions the Activision Blizzard’s leadership team has implemented throughout 2021 and is continuing to implement in 2022 with regards to improving our workplace. Activision Blizzard’s leadership team has discussed the company’s goals at length with Microsoft, and Microsoft has reviewed the renewed culture commitment and actions Activision Blizzard have done so far, and the efforts they´ve undertaken. Microsoft is supportive of the goals and the work being done. This is a compelling transaction for all stakeholders, including employees.
No additional special compensation arrangements for Mr. Kotick were entered into in connection with the transaction. Mr. Kotick’s base salary has been reduced to California’s minimum annual salary (which is approximately $62,500 for 2022), and he will not be awarded any bonuses or equity grants until the Workplace Responsibility Committee of the Activision Blizzard Board of Directors has determined that Activision Blizzard has made appropriate progress toward achievement of the transformational gender-related goals and other commitments described in such announcement.
I originally did but I ended up opting not to include licensed stuff for Take Two
it would be a dream. but wouldn’t zynga give too much market share in mobile now that it also owns king? tt doesn’t seem to want to sell, but if gta6 were to prove a flop, anything is possible.
I wonder if ms has the courage to make other big acquisitions before finishing activision blizzard…
surely sony will try to take probablymonsters, kojima, arc system, everywhere, fromsoftware parent company
all “small acquisitions” with high potential and maybe we “run away even a publisher like square, ubisoft or capcom”.
Well… i’m not going to lie, seeing Capcom acquired by Sony Corporation will be disappointing for me as a PC/Gamepass user. but i recognize that it will be a great “win” for them. i don’t think they’re going to Konami because they’re worth over 8Billion… i mean, who’s going to pay 8Bi on Konami??? i don’t know if Sony has the resources to acquire another editor after Bungie, but in the medium-long term they will be acquiring big devs in Japan.
i wanted to know, what Xbox is doing in Japan. partnerships? acquiring ? I would like to see something big happening there.
Correct
-
no it wouldn’t. While king and zynga are the 2 biggest mobile developers, unless you want to tell me a majority of mobile game revenue which makes up about half of gaming revenue is made up by just those 2, no it wouldn’t have any affect
-
it depends, take two may not actively want to sell but they legallly have to work in favour of the shareholders so if they got a good offer they would 100% review it at minimum.
This being said. I will add in, I have had the time to think it all over and while I think Take 2 is definitely a possibility, I think Square is the most likely major acquisition from Xbox. I see it going between 5 and in terms of most likely to least likely out of said 5 I would say: Square Enix > Ubisoft > Capcom > Take Two > SEGA
I doubt Microsoft will acquire anyone major until Activision has closed but maybe some smaller studios, they hypothetically could try though. terms of sony, I don’t see them buying ubisoft or capcom, sony only has 10 billion left to spend until 2024 on acquisitions and them dumping their load on a single sector of their business is stupid. I could see sony buy KADOKAWA though (parent company of fromsoftware) but that would cost around 5 billion. I don’t get why people act like sony will go out and drop 10 billion on someone like capcom in the slightest, Bungie is the companies largest acquisition on their entire history for reference
Microsoft needs to a major acquisition in Japan simply because it is the only way to them to ensure that they will have a stable content of japanese games. Small game studios do not mean much because they don’t make enough games to feed Game Pass. Also I stick to my point that each and every Sony’s acquisition is detrimental to gaming until they change the policies, but it is inevitable that they will acquire something we like.
But big Sony acquisition is kinda psychological thing for a lot of people too. Until recently it was widenly believed that only companies like Microsoft, Amazon etc. can afford big acquisitions. And it was backed up by logic and reasoning. But as soon as Sony’s rumor appeared, people immediately started to believe tha it is “big” that Sony suddenly has become able to afford even T2…
I still don’t buy into that rumor (how many rumors were there? and from SEC fillings we know that those talks are handled by the folks so high in the sky that second hand rumors are simply not possible unless bankers or lawyers are involved). But if the acquisition is really happening - and definition of big may vary - it should happen soon, otherwise leaks would not appear.
the ATVI deal will be a big test for MS.
Maybe Microsoft’s rivals should stop engaging into the same practices that made Microsoft pariah in the 90s in the first place but what do I know
Annoying that the article is paywalled. Cannot read.
