Xbox Acquisition |OT5| Talking Exclusively About Xbox Acquisitions

I was actually thinking about this (acquiring SEGA) earlier today, following the ‘new’ back compat subscription service which PS announced :stuck_out_tongue:.

It would be pretty awesome if you could stick a CD-ROM from the SEGA Saturn, SEGA Dreamcast and even SEGA Mega CD into an Xbox and it just worked!

I believe SEGA would but probably for a pretty big premium since that is their main source of income, Square has a similar issue but its much smaller being just stuff like some companies which microsoft could just sell off to some like namco or sony

I can appreciate this comment and typically agree. However, some members here simply don’t listen to feedback from other users or even mods for that matter. You can be as direct or indirect with certain folks and they just don’t get it. This thread has seen an overwhelming amount of posting by a select few rather opinionated individuals that I believe actively detracts from the quality of the thread in both discussion and participation. I know I hesitate to even bother entering this thread when I see the avatars that’ve posted last in the thread because I know it’s just going to be a sea of posts from 1-2 people. I’ve tried to be as nice as possible when hinting around this, but the room remains unread… Anyway, enough on this, I appreciate what you’re saying and for my part will work on how to be even more constructive.

Acquisitions are a heck of a thing…

But the thing is that there is nothing else to discuss as nothing is happening in acquisition world that worth a discussion. Sony acquisitions moved to another thread altogether and essentially everything boils down to the same companies.

There is much more activity when acquisition happens, but other than that - nothing.

Then maybe think about simply not posting. There certainly doesn’t need to be constant chatter, especially when the same things are being regurgitated by the same folks. Make sense? Sometimes it’s ok to be easy and wait to speak something of true value, or a new thought. And trust me, we’ve thought of a lot here.

I find that highly entertaining even if it the same thing over and over again.

Then think about the larger group of others who don’t. Anyway, if you or others want to discuss this further I’m glad to via DM to not clutter or derail the thread. And if the behavior continues I’ll just dip out for a long while.

On topic, I love seeing Xbox investment in smaller companies that need financial backing to truly flex. The Ninja Theories, the Obsidians, the Double Fines. If they can manage to identify studios like that in areas that aren’t traditionally strong in - such as Asia - I’d love to see it.

I wonder if during 2018-2019 acquisition spree Microsoft specifically targeted some studios or just went around asking each and every company if they are willing to be bought. Playground games aside though. As since then they did not acquire other smaller studios but went straight to Bethesda (though the talks regarding that took quite some time).

I appreciate you bringing a civil and understanding point tho this discussion. I totally agree and understand it can be frustrating if your criticisms/friendly nudges go unnoticed. At the end of the day though, it’s just a thread and (imo) it’s not something worth being bothered by.

From my personal viewpoint, I feel discussion has died down here for a few reasons.

1.) For me personally, I feel less inclined to comment in here after some of the negative feedback shared on the podcast. We all know other sites run rampant with Nick’s discussions, I can’t imagine what people might grab from here if the podcast themselves describe this thread in a negative light (and that’s not a criticism of you @Sikamikanico @Shpeshal_Nick @Doncabesa, it just really reduces my interest in this thread and makes me wonder if I’m part of the problem).

2.) We’ve had some notable departures from the forum. Whether you agree with them or not is irrelevant, those individuals did bring further discussion in this thread. I also see that others that use to be regulars here just aren’t participating anymore.

Obviously I agree this thread shouldn’t just be a back and forth between two people, but I just don’t see the harm in it either, but that’s my viewpoint and everyone is welcome to theirs. Obviously the mods run the site and have their own takes on the issue(s) and I trust them to do what’s best for the site in their eyes, no matter if I agree with it or not.

With that said, nothing but respect for everyone here currently and previously. Hope no one takes my points/opinion too critically because that’s not the intent. Just hope to see XboxEra succeeding for the long term.:green_heart:

PLAYISM (who made stuff like night in the woods and OMORI), Platinum games (who have made great action games), Cyberconnect2 (who has primarly made good anime games like demon slayer and Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot but is making their own IPs now) and Arc WorkSystems (they develop guilty gear and blaze blue which are amazing fighting games) for Japanese ones. I forgot what they are called but didn’t Microsoft work with that indie studio located in Japan for that JRPG with a drawing esk visual novel, them too

This thread has been fine lately? I haven’t seen much flagged at all in here recently, after a few of those notable departures you’ve mentioned.

Is old mate Prog on a small hiatus or was it a perma ban? I missed that along the way😆

Prog apparently asked to be banned.

He asked to have his account closed

Acquire the key partners they’re working with Asobo, Avalanche, Behavoir Interactive, Certain Affinity, Crystal Dynamics (or Square West), Double 11 and IOI. That’d be an absolute coup and every single one has many teams and variety.

Shame, miss that dude. He was always great in the forums

the fact you didn’t meantion studio MDHR upsets me :frowning:

Studio MDHR formed over one great idea, they’re absolutely a prime candidate if they wanted to be acquired but I think they need to show they can grow and come up with more ideas. Plus with indie studios I think they can take their time and just form a partnership and see how they get on, like what Microsoft is doing with all these indie games on gamepass.

I am mixed, I half agree but cuphead was one of the things that helped xbox make a come back and its an example of a kind of game which will likely not be repliacted in the same way by many other studios, I think if the DLC goes well there is no reason not to try pick them up as it does show they do have other ideas and their quality wasn’t just a one off thing. In terms of the other partnerships though-ASOBO: I am shocked Microsoft hasn’t picked them up yet, Avalanche…I would wait and see how controband turns out 1st personally, Behavoir Interactive…Dead by daylight would be a great thing for microsoft but looking at them…I am not sure…I wouldn’t call them a key partnership either, Certain Affinity: just a great pick up, Crystal Dynamics/Square Enix west: already said my opinion enough times on this but I think Microsoft would just try to buy Square as a whole rather than just their western division, Double 11: never heard of them, IoI: I would say a similar thing to avalanche if they didn’t own hitman…hitman as an IP would be a good pick up for Microsoft so yeah that makes sense

Avalanche has nothing to do with Hitman… that’s IOI. Also, Asobo sought private investment instead of acquisition, and received it via a private equity firm - some studios want to remain independent for as long as possible/permanently.

And the relationship between MDHR and MS soured; besides there are far more capable, efficient devs out there.
