Xbox Acquisition |OT5| Talking Exclusively About Xbox Acquisitions

I still would be curious to see how much it would cost to pry FromSoft and Spike Chunsoft from Kadakowa.

Also think CyberConnect2 with Platinum would be two big, independent names to go for.

After Elden Ring this will be a publisher amount of money. The price is only going up and up on FromSoft

after the massive success of elden ring, they would cost a lot. Also platinum is really hit or miss so they wouldn’t do much when it comes to breaking into Japan (not calling them a bad buy, just saying they don’t even come close to SEGA, Square or capcom) and cyberconnect2 make mostly anime games so not sure, MS may not want to deal with all the licenses to be able to keep those games on game pass, licenses are not bad but thats pretty much all of their value

CyberConnect2 is actually pushing multiple new IP as well. All of which are self-published and coming to Xbox iirc.

I dont think that microsoft should buy square just because of jrpgs

Besides the indie sized projects, when was the last time we hear people praising a AAA jrpg from square? Final fantasy isnt exactly a jrpg anymore, sure is famous and all but after 15 is a hit or miss with square

I have faith in the team making the dragon quest saga aswell the western division if they let them work again in the things they are good at, but square japan isnt really that amazing compared to others, sega also makes jrpgs that are becoming more relevant aswell that they will brought a ton of different type of content to xbox, even capcom could surprise us making a new breath of fire

if Microsoft is acquiring someone either for the primarly reason or sole reason to gain a massive foothold in Japan, Square is the best option by far out of those 3, besides nintendo which I doubt MS will buy Square is probably the biggest publisher for the Japanese audience and own franchises which are massive in Japan like dragon quest which is insanely huge in Japan, final fantasy, Bravely Defualt, Chrono Trigger, Front Mission, Live Alive, the legends of mana ect. they also own other IPs which appeal to the west on top of that like tomb raider, GEX and Just cause…they also own space invaders which actually could be used for intresting marketing since its one of the most classic gaming franchises out there

I think if they buy Square Enix their Japan third party problem is solved because the rest of them will need to follow.

They are also the only company making AAA JRPGs (unless I’m missing something, and I don’t consider Atlus AAA). I expect FF16 will have a MUCH better reception.

No other companies make triple A JRPG’s like Nintendo, SEGA though ATLUS, Namco with tales of, Capcom with monster hunter ect. Square is definitely the bethesda of Japan though making making the most JRPG/WRPG and owning the most iconic ones in their genre as well

I have a hard time calling Persona 5 an AAA game personally.

Compare Persona 5’s production values to say… any Yakuza game. Just using it as an example since they both tried to recreate parts of Tokyo.

I would consider Yakuza Like a Dragon and Lost Judgment AAA. I’d probably argue for Persona 5 as well.

I do but if you want to be technical about it Yakuza is also listed as an JRPG

Persona 5 has very basic environments, basic dungeons, basic everything. The production values are nowhere near a Yakuza.

Why is that? Was it really low budget? Well in comparison to their larger efforts? I don’t follow the Eastern style games segment, so have no info to make my call on the matter.

alright so 1 debatable one (I would say its triple A) but after the success of persona 5, I think the next persona will definitely be triple A. Also there is soul hackers and SMT

The sets are basically fixed perspective, lack detail, and you can’t interact with anything. It’s like walking around in og FF7 but not pre rendered

Also we gonna get green posted for being off topic soon lol

I think they will also get rid of the third party problem in japan with other developers, and sure they can be the one making most of the AAA jrpgs right now, but isnt like they are all amazing, games like valkyrie elysium looks pretty generic but thats just my opinion

And lastly you have the problem with kingdom hearts and disney

I mean, thats how most of the games in the genre are, like xenoblade 2

I dont expect them to be like fallout

sure but would they be as affective as square, I don’t think so. Square is massive in Japan and is very capable of making amzing games

what problem, just make a deal where those games go onto game pass but square still develops them and lets them be multiplat. Maybe let disney get a bigger cut of the sales to make it more entising

I would totally cancel Valkyrie lol

what was so bad about valkyrie elysium, it looked fine in my opinion. Not amazing mind you but definitely not bad (Assuming its not being charged $70)
