Xbox Acquisition |OT5| Talking Exclusively About Xbox Acquisitions

Yeah that insider press release really opened up the situation. I was wondering why so many people were leaving, which felt like a record pace. But now, we know that Gallagher and Nueburger are essentially running The Initiative, exactly the same as Crystal Dynamics when the two where there. Which is exactly the opposite they said in the press release when the studio was announced. So yeah, I think MS does buy Crystal Dynamics

When Tencent invests in a company I enjoy:

I did see some funny self-own tweets by Sony fans, “Sony can’t miss!” and “What do you got Xbox?” And almost all their replies were letting them have it. Some people just ask for it, with how they console war so hard

…people on Twitter, I mean. Not any of you fine fellows on this forum. So don’t get your delicate sensabilities bruised because I used the dreaded c word…or c w word…words

I’ve really enjoyed Tequila’s stuff over the last decade. A while ago I had suggested them as a target for XGS, but Tencent seems like a good fit, too.

I was saying to @DeoGame recently that if Tencent ever decides to have their own platform/launcher, they’re going to have one hell of a first-party lineup.

great culture like activision blizzard right? If activision shows anything, it means culture can be changed and Microsoft won’t shy away from someone due to bad culture

Publishers is a separate matter though. ATVI deal is something incredible to be honest. Rare opportunity.

Well that’s different because that’s a wounded company, that has a ton of extremely good IP that will make their money back in no time that gets them in the mobile market, BR market, expand PC market and a million other things. Yes they have bad culture but all those other things massively outweigh that as bad as that sounds.

I’m talking about smaller companies that are prime targets for other reasons like ABK. The situation at TI tells me they will probably want well oiled studios that have a great recent history of titles like IOI.

Yeah, I think IO is a safe bet sooner or later. Maybe within 1-2 years even.

I think it’s almost a guarantee if their supposedly project dragon comes out and does very good.

Microsoft literally called activision and saw if they were willing to sell, I don’t see whats rare about it besides the amount of pressure they were able to apply

and why were they wounded, if anything it could show the opposite and suggest Ubisoft could be next since their culture has put them in a similar position

ATVI would not happen without a set of prerequisites that made it possible. It was a rare opportunity as not everyday the biggest and the very profitable publisher in the world can be acquired or up to sale.

despite the drama and legal actions their profits still increased in 2021 so…your point? If anything this should reinforce the idea of them not wanting to sell per that logic

Crazy to think that (probably) the first and one of the most sucessful game publishers is gonna be part of Xbox very soon

They were under heavy pressure and the stocks were tanking. They would cost 100b+ at peak.

All in all, no reason to deny that ATVI deals are extremely rare.

Right place; right time; right circumstance.

Crystal Dynamics, and heck SE West should be a priority for Phil and his team. They have a lot invested

Whit the Tomb Raider and Deus EX IPs, i hope.

MS once paid $100m just to secure timed exclusivity for Rise of the Tomb Raider. They have always desired the franchise.

Lets hope Phil finally pulls the trigger.
