… I literally never argued against that, hell I argued for that. Why do you think I keep repeating it wouldn’t be a big loss
you need to keep in mind the premium cost though, I would imagine capcom would cost more than CDPR (escpecially after cyberpunk) and SEGA would cost more than Bungie
Nintendo has publishing rights to Bayonetta 2, and assumedly 3, but they do not own Bayonetta. As we’ve seen plenty of times before publishing rights are malleable but does not consist of outright IP ownership.
Can we slow down the concern-train off of what impact a potential purchase could have on Xbox in a genre that’s largely owned by Xbox properties? Especially since the source isn’t reliable and is simply regurgitating fanboy arguments from another site (which was born from an idea that Sony has to retaliate)?
On what basis? Nintendo has no need to purchase the IP, especially given the time it’s taken just to get another iteration in the series… Sega/Platinum hold the majority of cost in this situation, Nintendo neither would want to incur that cost internally nor do they need to. Purchasing rights off another publisher isn’t something that happens often, and certainly not for a series that still sells niche-level numbers; Gears made sense because each title has been a 5+ million selling entry…. Bayonetta, not so much. Especially when you consider how much Nintendo games typically sell in comparison to Bayonetta titles, and the fact that they have a proven history of bare-minimum post-launch efforts on their biggest titles; basically, Nintendo is all about investing in themselves and doing so with the lowest cost.
Capcom had the 8th top selling game in 2021 in the US (Resident Evil: Village).
Cyberpunk was the 17th top selling game in 2020 in the US (before multiple refunds!).
But why would they want to limit themselves to just the west?
Monster Hunter World has outsold more copies than Cyberpunk.
Monster Hunter Rise is also on its way! MH:Rise was the top selling game in Japan (2021) and 3rd top selling game worldwide in January (2022) despite coming up a year old!
The Resident Evil franchise is one of the biggest in gaming too and it keeps growing with each entry add some high quality new movies and a TV show and it can really explode.
the basis of the ties it has to nintendo, its treated like a 1st party IP by nintendo fans at this point, and the sales. If bayonetta 3 flops I don’t expect it to happen but if it sells well then yeah I see it happening
the west isn’t the only market
just my opinion but I think more people in the west would be aware of Sonic, Resident Evil or Street Fighter than the witcher or cyberpunk in the west when it comes to games
literally no reason, I doubt the western audience is going to jump ship if they are on xbox because sony bought CDPR
yeah its one of the biggest and is more than just major in gaming but major in a multi media sense at this point
this goes into another thing, veriety is very important. Microsoft wants/needs a hold in most if not all major IPs to really secure their spot as the major game subscription service so I think buying a studio who primarily focus’s on either WRPG and Shooters isn’t really needed at this point, if they do these games but they aren’t their main focus e.g. EA (just the 1st one that comes to mind) thats something else but they should focus on either publishers or studios who have IPs which are popular with casual gamer or get a better grasp on other genres like JRPGS, Horror, fighting games, sports, hack and slashes ect. Now that I think about it getting someone big in JRPG’s could be a good move as it would give them a huge hold over RPGs as a genre rather than just the western ones
So…basically “it’s nothing”? I didn’t realize Dealer was considered a legit source of anything. Has anyone remotely reputable said anything about this, commented, etc?
I don’t take dealer gaming seriously, I just thought it was an intrested discussion because I do think sony buying CDPR is fairly realistic, just me though
I think when people do this, especially in the Xbox acquisition thread, it creates a lot of unnecessary “fear” and “concern”, especially considering it’s likely not true for a number of reasons. People say a lot of things.
I don’t see the fear or concern. Why is sony buying someone a bad thing but Microsoft buying someone treated like a good thing? Ultimately its just speculation
Like I would take Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo ect. other someone like apple, facebook, google ect. cos they have 0 experience in the gaming scene or nearly 0 and I don’t trust them that much as a result…or you are tencent and in bed with the chinese goverement
