Not only that, pretty much all the games the same TPS formula with slightly different setting and scenario. Upto an instance God Of War is similar, but the combat differentiates it from the other Sony formula. I am not doubting the production values but what’s the point when pretty much all the games follows the same Uncharted, Last of Us template. This is not me hating on Sony type games but as an observer of the console space from the PC perspective it astonishes me that Sony often gets a huge pass for creating the samey experiences.
Atleast for me as a PC gamer MS/XBOX provides me with all the genres. Racing, Simulation, FPS, TPS, Strategy, Platformers, RPGs. The only thing missing is the dreaded Third Person Cinematic Action Adventure.
I suspect they got ATVI due to mobile (King gives a huge foothold there) and potentially Blizzard. Not to mention ATVI have stuff like a cinematic studio and an esports league even. EA’s strongest and the most well known IP is a sports title and in general EA is a sports powerhouse. They are trying to revive NFS, but I have no trust in that and BF2042 shows that EA is also kinda declined already.
And mainly they got it because there was an opportunity for that.
I personally have no idea why Microsoft did not try to get the marketing for FIFA in Europe. They had it with Xbox 360 right?
I personally don’t believe in that.
And even with Codemasters - most of EA games rely too much on third-party licenses rather than their own IPs. For example Dirt - WRC, F1 - no comments etc.
probably lack of funding from MS. hence why cancelled Fable legends despite being ready and shutdown lionhead. they couldn’t have money to support them
yeah i forget they are dropping Fifa name but even at that there is no competition for EA FIFA game, even madden have no competition which a series close to xbox
ultimate team is familiar name to fans. which Fifa biggest mode, they have big streamers like Castro advertise the game. expect EA will do anything to let people know this is their game.
It’s tough, but they at least have breathing room to re-establish themselves. Even if Fifa pulls the license, they’re going to have an uphill battle to establish a competitor. Not only do they have to find a developer who is willing to pay their enormous costs (Fifa was trying to get negotiate for 250 million dollars a year for the naming rights to Fifa and World Cup) but they have to find a developer who is willing to spend that money to compete against EA and their complete dominance over the football gaming market. IF Fifa manages to find a developer willing to do this they’re still looking at multiple years before they can hit the market - which is time where all EA has to do is get the message across that they are changing the name. I don’t imagine they’re gonna struggle too much, I think they’re gonna rename it and be just as successful without having to pay Fifa absurd amounts.
I do wonder if Ubi and EA will be off the table because of their game sub services, could be a bit iffy if they consume a competitor like that in the tiny game sub business.
Sure they can theoretically buy both Take Two and EA but if MS did that, they’d have the world’s biggest regulatory target on their back. ABK alone doesn’t solicit that level of concern but adding Take Two and EA anytime soon probably would.
That said, I don’t think Take Two or EA wants to be acquired. The vacuum left by ABK going first party could present an opportunity for them. Frankly, I wouldn’t be shocked if there were merger talks at some point.
