PG idk but FromSoftware…yeah i would need more popcorn than the one in this gif
Of course
but tbh, pretty much ANY developer or publisher that gets bought in Japan will cause meltdowns for certain people because it’s the place where people assume xbox would never go for or be able to get
People underestimating how much Sony fans care about Japan even if Sony dont
I dont even need Microsoft to buy them. Somebody like Sega is enough lol.
I’ve seen Asobo and Ubisoft being mentioned several times as possible targets. But don’t France have kinda strict restrictions on foreign companies making acquisitions? Would it be easy for MS to make a move there
Vivendi attempted a hostile takeover of Ubisoft, so I doubt there is an issue.
Vivendi is French though
Nah, MS is vital for most western countries, nobody would say a thing unless they break some law, but they wouldn’t.
Oops lol
it’s not strategic and the french state doesn’t have a stake in it (afaik)
Media Entertainment stuff are not protected in any country (outside non democracies), because it’s non vital per definition. I mean, Vodafone could buy major stakes in almost all EU contries phone stuff, which is hugely more important and connected to national security than video games. Nobody would stop MS acquiring Ubisoft or any french gaming stuff if the deal is legit.
I hope if with a JP publisher under MS, there would still be collabs with non-XGS Japanese companies on certain IPs (Marvelous made/co-developed Monster Hunter Stories 2 and Koei Tecmo/Omega Force with Persona 5 Strikers as examples). I guess there is no reason to think this wouldn’t be the case, but the 2 companies I mentioned (Marvelous, Koei) highly value Switch hardware so it’s possible they’d want the project on Switch. Still not sure how MS would take this, we know they didn’t want Bungie multiplat, but there is a good relationship with Nintendo and small Japanese games like this aren’t needle movers anyway.
If they get SEGA, which is by far the most likely target, dropping Switch wouldn’t be an issue, SEGA is mostly supporting pc/x86 consoles anyway, the only series which would be chopped off is SMT. I wouldn’t care anyway, Xbox mission is not to appease Nintendo like many think, but its customers.
Microsoft already acquired Arkane Lyon, based in France.
I was more talking about spin-offs made by 3rd party non-XGS JP studios like those 2 titles I mentioned (With Capcom, MH Stories by Marvelous, with Sega, Persona 5 Strikers by Koei Tecmo). I was wondering about if those would continue and if those studios would try to negotiate for a Switch version.
I think the time of free tokens for Nintendo from Xbox has ended, Phil said it when he underlined the necessity of a “full Xbox experience” aka relenting on their conditions. They won’t keep on being “nice” if it doesn’t serve Xbox, considering how it went, giving them Ori was a mistake imo.
Sega and SE are not doing fine, Sega just closed up all arcade’s and has been trimming all fat for the last 12 months, most people assuming for a acquisition. And then SE a company that has to stop selling there most important franchise because they don’t have enough server space on top of taking any money they can get for whatever game they can. Then there is the fact of throwing the western division under the bus every chance they get, seems like prime candidates for acquisition to me. The rest of japanese publishers though I agree they are doing great and probably not looking to sell.
I wonder if MS can offer Kadokawa 2b in exchange for From Software. It would be something irrefutable, it’s almost Kadokawa market cap
Everything Microsoft does with it’s money has to make financial sense. That’s probably 3-4 times the market value of From Software.
That is an insane over pay. They don’t have any IP I think.
