Xbox Monopoly Fear-Mongering Stoked By Former TV Star

konami would be my last choice but ngl the amount of mgs memes would be hilarious if it happened

If they can break the Japanese market in the next 8 years it would be pretty good going to be honest.

PlayStation have been outselling Xbox over 4:1 in Japan (and still dominated by Nintendo) for coming up 10 years now, yet if you look at the top selling 100 games (in Japan) even Sony are non-existant. Spider-Man MM is the only game in the top 100 and that’s at #99! Ironically Minecraft and CoD are in that list multiple times and higher.

These things take time, even if they could buy SE, Konami and Capcom tomorrow (which they can’t) it will be 3-5 years until the other Japanese devs consider to start developing games for Xbox (at minimum).

Even if they never do anything in Japan (unlikely at this point), with ACTI they’re already too big to ignore, Sony should have a harder time moneyhatting anything outside Square.

I wish I could live in a world where recently spending nearly 70 billion is ‘all talk’ :joy:

There could be hints of sarcasm in my posts

He already did.

It’s called PlatinumGames.:wink::joy:

In my defence some of the BS being thrown around lately is incredible :joy:

I think it’s easier to let Mikami do his thing and fully support his studio.

Mikami knows a ton of great japanese devs and is good friends with a ton of them, I believe that Mikami will put in good word about MS all around if they just give him support.

Other than that MS will surely act on Japan sooner or later as well.

In all honesty, I hope Phil was able to convince Mikami to stay on a bit longer. Iirc, his next game was originally going to be his last before retirement, right?

Phil working on acquiring that retention!

Phil has pretty much accomplished or at least on the course to achieve everything he’s said he wanted, best hardware, leading first party, best ecosystem etc if the man says he wants Japanese studios, id say it’s pretty likely it will happen at some point

I do think some Japanese devs/publishers would be worried as it’s a bigger risk for them vs western studios but I wonder what xbox/phil’s thought process is

Have they already appoached Japanese studios at all? or were they focusing on western deals?

Have they been turned down by Japanese companies so they focus on the west and get xbox/gamepass so big that there’s no reason to doubt accepting an acquisition? Interesting times ahead

I could be wrong but iv ever read anything about him retiring, just not directing anymore but it sounds like he’s got at least one more game in him

But yeah, it’s important for Xbox to just do what the man wants, there aren’t many devs as respected as Mikami

zenimax ABK nothing impossible ? or Maybe you have the magic crystal to know the destiny

I’m sure Phil talked with him already, Mikami will have full support and money like he never saw before to make games.

It’ll be up to him if he likes this or not lol

Would be great, I love Tango.

But the first game of this team would take around 5 years. If Microsoft wants to make an impact with Japanese content that isn’t going to cut it.

for my taste I hope take-two and paradox if they do i could pay even 20$ month

hopefully it skips the zynga takeover so it will speed things up

guess what i usually play?

I won’t comment on parthner like ioi etc because from the rumor the games all look good.

Jeez, guys it’s obviously sarcasm.

Back in 2020, MS was approaching Japanese publishers to acquire according to Bloomberg.

“ The U.S. company has been stepping up discussions with Japan-based game developers about releasing titles on the Xbox, said Sarah Bond, who oversees relations with game creators across the Microsoft gaming ecosystem.

Koei Tecmo Games Co. is one of those firms. Hisashi Koinuma, president of the Japanese publisher, said he’s willing to consider releasing more games for the Xbox if the U.S. company shows continued interest in Japan.

On top of that, there’s evidence Microsoft is seeking to make acquisitions in the country, though it hasn’t yet landed a deal with a big name there. Several Japan-based game developers, from small to big, said it had approached them about buying their businesses. They asked not to be identified as the talks were private, and declined to give details on how the discussions went.”
