I can’t choose what would be the most damaging for Sony. XD
I don’t like much the kumbaya approach chosen by Phil, which is 90% pr fluff anyway, it’s not like they have abused of their position since 90s…

they have spent 70 billion so i don’t expect them to buy any other publisher until the complete acquisition which could take another 18 months unless they are forced to try to block google - amazon - sony with a sudden offer on a publisher - studio that they consider strategic.
follow the clues that PS has left
So I also expect in a long time
-Valve–>steam / engine / vr / ip -Paradox–>strategy /building / wide potential growth -Sega —> jrpg–> and rated ( who already have enough of those) - strategy -Take Two if someone tries to buy them
but read between the lines if they take paradox - take two they will hardly get to buy sega to cover japan because they would have too many strategy game developers.
i reiterate that in the short term there will be nothing at least that they will not be forced to stop someone
It is true that this acquisition has people panicing and thinking everyone’s up for sale
I really want a studio like Insomniac Games. But there is no independent studio left like that.
-Multiple AAA projects. -Games using in-house engine and looks amazingly beautiful. -Nearly all games are GOTY level quality.
I mean, we could potentially get that with both Playground and Blizzard.
I want to see blizzard taking risks with new ips like they did with overwatch
IOI and Asobo easily have that potential
In my mind it is a couple things:
When Bethesda was aquired wb was almost aquired at the same time. There is the possibility of another one (however unlikely)
I check it for rumors/news of what is happening with Activision
For me it is just fun to speculate and imagine possibilities
There is still one hole in Xbox line-up: asian/japanese games, they need a japanese publisher or at least 2-3 studios from over there, depending on japanese devs/publishers output is a double-edged sword, they will always choose Sony/Nintendo over Microsoft if they have to, also having a line-up full of holes from that flavor of games is like signaling defeat for that subset of gamers, which in fact avoid en masse Xbox platform.
Even with a publisher acquisition I only see it happening under the agreement that they are still allowed to release games on Nintendo .
2-3 studios? JP Games and Itagaki Games. Boom, go get em. Itagaki would “sell” for free just to be back with Xbox.
This interview with him when he opened his new studio is pretty interesting. You get a Japanese perspective on the Xbox brand and some cool history. Even some stuff he thinks MS screwed up with Japan early on like not getting much units for the launch of OG Xbox there. Probably the most interesting part to me
—I heard Microsoft was sort not that polite to some Japanese developers?
Itagaki: “I don’t think so. If there were such attitude by Microsoft, it was Japanese developers’ attitude that made Microsoft act that way. I am very machine-oriented guy, but many other Japanese developers are business-oriented. Even before Microsoft has a chance to explain their machines, Japanese studios would ask them, what’s the benefit for us and what you can do to us. I don’t think anyone would be happy to be given that sort of attitude from the beginning.”
The fact that many japanese devs were/are against Xbox for cultural divide and/or personal interests has been known forever, that pettiness is apparent when looking at FF or Atlus for example.
Anyway, concerning Switch, I’d say no: MS is big enough to keep going and losing sales to bolster its platform, they also publish on pc and cloud day one.
I agree about Blizzard. I hope they make new IPs after the acquisition.
True. Especially Asobo.
Phil said he wanted more Asian made games so at the very least we should keep talking about Sega lol
Tuesday should be interesting to see where they stand in acquisition hunt.
What’s Tuesday? Sony’s call? Microsoft call?
Doesn’t WB have a call or something this coming week?
Yeah, on the 26th, but apparently they never talk about WBIE.
The best choice now is WB games. They need fighting games and NetherRealm is the best choice
Microsoft call.
I don’t think they need to buy the entirety of WB Games just to get NetherRealm though.
Especially since I think those studios got split up? Idk, that whole situation is weird.
