Xbox Acquisition |OT5| Talking Exclusively About Xbox Acquisitions

Ah okay! I was super confused.:joy:

If they buy square enix I think that would be a death blow. Almost everything Sony was known for would be an Xbox exclusive

I know people are framing this acquisition as all about MS against Sony, and while that may be part of it, this is just as much a MS vs Tencent, Amazon, Google, Etc… move. I believe Phil when he says he trusts Sony and Nintendo in the gaming space. If Sony acquires developers/publishers they will still make it about gaming. MS and Sony can always negotiate over games, give and take. However Google or Facebook Meta acquiring a major game publisher isn’t going to be about making/selling games. They are going to want user data, an avenue to push advertising, etc… Gaming for them won’t be about the games it will be about gaining access to MS’s users for their primary business

Sony vs MS sure they’ll fight over exclusive games or whatever, but Google will want user tracking, ads, and who knows what else.

Although technicality right, they have done virtually nothing so far. Until they do it is Microsoft improving their lineup for gamepads, and a side effect making games exclusive.

Yes for the here and now this will be leverage against Sony, but MS could just do their own exclusive deals if that was all they were worried about. This is how they operated in the 360 gen, where they would just do deals with developers and not worry about the burden of managing internal studios. MS isn’t being dismissive of Sony, it’s just the truth that Google/Amazon/Metabook is a bigger threat/danger lurking around the corner simply due to how they operate their business and they have to money/power to do some real damage.

Agreed. They only need to fill holes in their portfolio.

A history rich Japanese publisher (for 30 years of backcatalogue) and 5-10 AA devs to help flesh out GP releases throughout the year would be great.

A bunch of indies (in order to give them access to resources) would be great too.

I also think support studios would be ideal. We talk about many Activision teams helping with Call of Duty, and how they were pulled from other projects. Let’s not forget that Microsoft did the same for Halo Infinite. Maybe not at the same degree but enough to make you think that a support studio or two would be prudent considering XGS/ABK/Zenimax’s size now.

I am sure you guys are not going to agree with me but at this point I hope that ms will get all the wb studios(rebranding it to midway) and give them the freedom to work on the ips that they want, just like they are planning to do with the studios of activision, but if it doesnt happen I am still gonna be happy

Xbox finally got the type of studios I have always wanted and I cant ask for more

They are right… For me atleast

I play games on Gamepass only… So I didn’t play any Activision game yet

Now they are on Gamepass, I will play them

They wouldn’t be close to buying up half the industry if they purchased 4 more Activision size publishers. Y’all really underestimate the size and fragmentation of the gaming industry.

I think a lot of people would agree with you in wanting MS to buy WB Games and add those teams to making Xbox games.

Really not expecting much if anything while this deal goes through regulators. I’m also expecting management to have to spend a lot of time dealing with the issues at AB and getting the structure right for xbox

I have a belive that ms has probably already have two independent companies and are just waiting to they finalize cause I have a hard time that Activision is the only one they were focused on especially with all the the job listing for mergers and Acquisitions

This thread should be a ghost town. How the fuck are you people still talking about acquisitions after the biggest one in history that will never be topped has been announced?

Like I said, people shouldn’t expect any acquisition by Xbox anytime soon after this one.

This acquisition does enforce that MS targets studios and publisher that are in some degree financially troubled.

I think what was most surprising is how this acquisition shattered every expectations we had, be it the troubled environment in place at AB, the price, and the fact it is a public company.
