Xbox Acquisition |OT4| It's Acquisition Season for Xbox with $69 Billion deal, NICE!

??? Not this argument again about staff that @Knottian is tired of refuting lol.

Ubi would bring an insane backlog, staff and a bunch of IP’s.

To be fair, there have been legitimate criticisms levied at Ubisoft: their game designs being relatively similar, a heavy reliance on MTX, etc.

The biggest reason people were saying Ubisoft wouldn’t get picked up was due to their rampant sexual abuse/harassment and racism reports, coupled with leadership’s alleged complicity. The acquisition of Activision however throws that barrier out the window.

More to your original point, I don’t think the data aligns with your idea that Ubisoft would have been more impactful/better than Activision. For the record, that’s coming from someone who would prefer several devs and a smaller pub(s) like Sega or WB (if this is an either/or scenario), but I can’t argue the business acumen of a deal like this. Still secretly holding out hope for those others though…

We’re now at 3 different acquisitions from MS that are 10,000 employees or well above. Staff count isn’t the barrier some seem to think it is here.

Reviving Acti IPs would take time,

focus on COD, Diablo IV, OW 2 releases now while trying to fix most of issues

For me personally I prefer the Ubisoft games and they are released more frequently than the Activision games which IMO seems like it would suit a subscription model better.

Yes… I know Activision makes way more money.

TBH Most of the EA properties are more exciting (for me personally) too!

I still find it crazy that they only need to buy one more big publisher like EA, TakeTwo or Epic Games to become the market leader, by the the time GP grows they will be unstoppable.

The only thing that worries me is we might not get some of the smaller acquisitions we were hoping for like SEGA now they have done this because they will begin to worry about market dominance.

I will carry the sega torch forever.

True but I think this is all a symptom of them having to pump out games yearly at the cost of creativity which is eerily reminding of Activision’s path and we just saw how that ended up.

And I’ll be a torch-bearing companion down that endless road too my friend.

I know @NierlyCrazy approves of this.

I don’t disagree, but I think people also tend to forget about the Blizzard portion of the equation as it immediately provides an additional foothold into the PC realm.

Oh for sure thats what made this acquisition more enticing to Microsoft than the others I reckon. With this they get a massive share of the pc and mobile market that the other 2 dont have.

EA/Ubi >> AB with ease if we’re talking about IP that I actually care about.

AB wins in the money and reach department which is the only thing that matters to MS.

Could have had my Assassins Creed fix on game pass for eternity …

Anyway Ubi an easy candidate for game pass games and Ubi + so not all is lost.

But yeah, like you said. I expect to see Ubisoft + on Gamepass in the near future. Win win for MS

Exactly, We have EA play in Gamepass there is no need for an acquisition of Ubisoft if we get Ubisoft+ in gamepass as well. The only time I would may a play for EA or Ubisoft is to prevent someone else from getting them now.

Purchasing who over who is a subjective topic. One would love to see Crash back, the other would love to see Beyond Good and Evil 2 actually happen. Downplaying would only reflect based on preference.

Just saying
