Xbox Acquisition |OT4| It's Acquisition Season for Xbox with $69 Billion deal, NICE!

I don’t think they’ll allow gamepass because gamepass is more than just Xbox games. If they allow gamepass it could make them lose out on 30% cut they get from PS store. I think that is a huge risk for them to take on just to get xbox games

If they allow game pass on PlayStation people will buy a PlayStation.

Does Microsoft no longer care about game sales from third parties on their store?

Yeah, I think offering gamepass is just a bluff because gamepass on playstation makes no sense in losing out on 30% PS store cut. Plus, gamepass on xbox doesn’t make sense since they’ll lose 30% on their games microtransactions

Allegedly, Phil Spencer approached Kotick back in 2020 but he wasn’t interested in selling. After the Bloomberg report about him in November 2021, he tried to sell ActiBlizz to Facebook and another big corporation first but the deals fell through and then he went back to Phil.

Phil always gets his way.

Having 5 studios committed to working on the one game is unsustainable long term and makes no sense with what Xbox wants for Game Pass: a consistent stream of games coming from first party.

I have no clue what the future holds for the Call of Duty franchise but I will be amazed if Xbox keeps things the way they are from a development perspective.

In an ideal world CoD goes to a 2 or 3 year release schedule with whilst continuing to support Warzone.

Going to be super interesting to see what Phil’s plans are in a few years time.

The other big corpo could have been EA

EA could have proposed a merger at most, I mean, Acti Bliz is bigger than them.

Not sure why you need to be so antagonistic towards Sony. A whole bunch of people choose to play their games on Playstation, potentially getting to continue doing this is only a good thing.

The Game Pass model really is the future and for that reason it is good MS bought AB. More gamers get to play more games, where-ever they want and at a pretty affordable price. What difference does it make to any of us if that is on a Playstation ?

While I dont necessiarily agree with the take being offered by Javy, I think the larger issue he is pointing out is that this is arguably a bed sony made themselves, so to some degree there is catharsis in making them lie in it.

Sony tried multiple times to kill Xbox, I don’t think MS would do anything to help them, I mean, this deal is the most damaging to PS they could have possibly done.

MS already offer similar deals elsewhere. You look at Office365 on MacOS or iOS. Heck whatever Sonys new Game Pass or streaming service will be hosted on Azure. Phil has consistently said that he wants players to play the games they want wherever they want.

MS just want MAU and subs.

Console users are still by far the most profitable subset of MAUs.

Yes, I think the partners they are working with are strong candidates in the future.

Phil is really Thanos. “What does that lead you? Back to me.”

Im not being antagonistic in the slightest. Im just seeing the business side of things and GP coming to Sony is essentially keeping the PS5 box alive when they wouldnt throw xbox a bone.

I dont know why Xbox has to go above and beyond with its peers when it doesnt need to or shouldnt.

Its also the best deal MS could have done.

I don’t think MS want to “kill” Sony, they just want the most consistent ROI from this deal. Right now, keeping these games as Xbox ecosystem exclusive makes sense but MS have Sony in a weak position now. They could negotiate a good deal for GP on Playstation and Switch. Then they have access to 100% of the console market.

Because it will make them the most money.

Because PlayStation is anti-consumer nonsense. That’s why.

I didn’t say to kill anyone, I still like some PS games and I had all their consoles outside PS3, they will still be ok, only no longer the big bully in the school, with nasty behaviours along all PS history, with Sega, Nintendo, MS and countless others.
