I think it’s been proven with Gearbox already (at least due to one specific individual).
I do not comment on rumor or speculation.
Unless it’s SEGA or NieR!
It’s a question of publishing rights and IP as much as anything. Buying Focus costs way more, but actually gives you a back catalogue of games and a series of games in production already.
Vampyr 2 (not announced but hinted at) with Dontnod, Space Marine 2 with Saber, Plague Tale 2 with Asobo are examples of externally developed but large games it gives you in the upcoming slate. If you bought the developers you get their long term potential but none of the immediate or prior stuff. The actual slate of developers Asobo has isn’t very big, but they do a lot of publishing.
Nacon is another French puplisher with a similar scale but a meatier set of devs. They are less lean because they have a peripheral business though.
Some would say they’re… near to your heart. I’ll see myself out now.
But aren’t you the one championing a Ubisoft acquisition?
Me???
All ive said is that in a world where Ubisoft absolutely has zero scandals they have an IP backlog that is absolutely worth going in for game pass + a massive work force. Big difference.
Only studios I remotely mention where it makes sense for Microsoft would be Asobo, IO (pending Project Dragon) and a publisher acquisition of Paradox which would be huge for their PC game pass sector. The rest I dont like to speculate on.
There’s also Bungie with the Destiny IP, which imo is the best service shooter on the market. We all know it’s inevitable that Bungie and Microsoft get back together. There’s far too much history and Phil loves Bungie.
Just finished Judgment and I gotta say……
Xbox… just look at RGG… look at them…
They can be yours in one easy purchase of a publisher.
Yakuza, Judgment, Sonic, Persona, SMT, Super Monkey Ball, Virtua Fighter, Jet Set Radio, Total War, and so many more in one easy bundle….
Just say it. That one word.
Going to start up Lost Judgment tomorrow, so probably expect a similar post in about a week.
70 hour masterpiece about which 55 you will spend doing school work and side quests.
MY GOATS RGG
I don’t know if I’m the only one who has thought of this or not. I haven’t seen anyone else say something like this, but I had an idea.
We know Xbox will have more studios added when Microsoft aquire more studios/developers/publishers and that’s great.
But why just aquire more developers when they can aquire more developers AND acquire some of other developers talent?
Now, some of you may be reading this thinking “what is this person even talking about? Are they okay?” (Yes I’m okay ). But there’s a reason why I’m saying this.
We’ve seen the recent article saying that Ubisoft and Activision Blizzard has employees leaving in droves. So all these qualified and experienced developers are leaving these companies.
Why not start your (Microsoft) own new development studios in locations near Ubisoft development studios and Activision development studios, offer everything they could want (things like… You know… A safe workplace for all…) and get all those experienced developers in and build studios filled with great, talented devs.
To me that just seems like something you stay out of. MS has plenty of studios these developers could apply for if they wanted so there is no need to make your business relationships so messy.
Do they have studios nearby the Ubisoft and Activision studios in set locations?
I don’t think Sega is selling and we don’t know if MS interested in Sega, anyway if there such scenario then they need to acquire them in 2022 if they want to make their next game exclusive for Xbox
Sega have the same problem as Konami they need to find a buyer for their non gaming divisions unless MS interested in keeping running these Divisions. Anyway i know Phil and Xbox interested in Sega, but i don’t think MS interested in it, Phil would have to convince Satya again to drop billions on Acquisition.
