yeah even for Epic that would 30B and probably more. just for one engine. i mean how much time left in fortnite IP ?
Doom and Doom Eternal look great and run fast. Calling it versatile is speculative, though. Idtech 6 and 7 have both exclusively powered first person shooters of, at best, medium scope. Certainly nothing open world. They have also only been used by two studios, one of which runs the engine, the other which is a close collaborator.
So in terms of how well it would work for other types of games - that’s unknown, and for how easy it is to use for new staff compared to other engines available - also unknown. How robust are the tools? No idea! It might be awesome at all those things but we just don’t havea a window into it ourselves.
I mean, aside from Fortnite and Unreal Engine it’d also be the Epic Games Store, Psyonix (Rocket League), Harmonix (Rock Band, Fuser, etc.), Mediatonic (Fall Guys), Unreal Tournament IP, and I’m sure I’m missing more (Jazz Jackrabbit?).
Unreal Engine is huge though, and will continue to be for many years to come unless they start flailing on the tech side, which doesn’t seem to be an issue anytime soon. Idk if there are any other engines that have a chance at competing atm, but would love to see idTech given the chance to expand!
i’m pretty sure the evil within used Id tech 5 for first game and they made custom engine of ID tech called it Stem engine(at it core it still Id Tech) for the evil within 2.
yeah the engine will need work but that would not be problem with MS Recourses
All those games are multplat not worth it
idk the only alive games from that list is Fortnite and Rocket Leauge, but i can’t see future in them.
The store is not needed what left is the engine and probably the only reason why you want to buy this company
Epic main source of income is fortnite and epic knows the game will not last for long, that why you see them buying studios and invest more in UE, their is also store attempt but i don’t think that is working for them lol in fact steam probably only get stronger in last few years
@Mort I’m starting to think we’re not getting our 7 studios this year…
so i’m curious did MS let go of idea building new studios like the initiative and focus only on Acquisition ?
why not build xbox korea studio and xbox japan studio first ? if they are taking long time to buy studios in Asian region
Yea they said it takes to lonh to establish a new one
Its like counter strike, won’t be going away
He is the community mgr at ABK.
When someone asked in the xboxera podcast, Nick mentioned Raven should be picked. I agree even more, now.
Actually see this happening. Given that XGS studios use Unreal a lot and Epic still leans towards PS for marketing.
Xbox might be their major customer, while most of the PS studios use Decima or some other in house engine.
The one who will continue using Unreal is the Coalition as they can then guide the rest of the industry in using Unreal on Xbox platforms.
Anyway, I think we have digressed.
Ahh i don’t think Activation will sell them though.
but they can approach raven talents
Hire them all to the new Zenimax Online location in Madison, WI
Xbox would have gone for Blizzard 7 years back. Probably not now.
There are other studios within abk that might be more attractive - Raven Soft and Toys for Bob.
I keep going back and forth on this one, but I think People Can Fly would be an enormous add. PCF has three AAA games in development, produces solid entries that could use better funding and tech. Prime location. Huge history with Xbox. Only drawback is they are public.
none ov this surprises. Me with activision given how kotrick and the board are behaving, not to mention crashes in the market this week. If Microsoft. wanted to cherrypick a studio or two, i’d say the opportunity is there with activision. Also all these studio leads walkkng lately nottjust at activision.
They might build one with the knowledge that it will take them 5 years to see anything. That is not a hot idea if you view it purely from a turnaround perspective.
Instead, investing in small time creators to take their studios from A+/AA budget to AAA budget makes a lot more sense.
Ps - I feel happy watching Uruqhart or Fargo do interviews from a position of strength, now.
Not the only drawback.
All Polish studios have the full backing of their govt. So they are never usually in a weak position.
I always winced at the news of Techland, knowing that the govt will come to their rescue sometime.
I really want to see xbox saving toys for bob aswell as the crash and spyro ips
I know is unlikely since those have a big story with playstation(being their mascots during ps1) aswell that xbox already has ips like banjo, but I can just hope
