Xbox Acquisition |OT4| It's Acquisition Season for Xbox with $69 Billion deal, NICE!

Also “studio doesn’t make game I want anymore = they’re being FORCED AND BEATEN INTO MAKING SOMETHING THAT I DON’T WANT AND ALSO ITS IMPOSSIBLE FOR THEM TO BE SUCCESSFUL THAT WAY”

I see no problem making studio working on fortnite. i mean it provide job for many devs or do you want them to work on old unprofitable formula and expensive one to make due licenses(music games) until they shut down ? the door is open for devs to leave if they want full creative (not like there such a thing in industry).

Can we keep it on topic? Go complain about the Epic/Harmonix acquisition in another thread. This thread already has a steady stream of nonsense in it!

It’s more so going to a company that’s going to stifle the creative future of a company. Am I happy human beings have jobs? Of course, but that doesn’t mean I have to be happy about the outcome of their work now.

It’s just like I’m happy Microsoft employees have jobs, but I’m not going to celebrate every military contract they get.

I would argue this is on topic. Just my two cents tho.

2 studios i been watching for possible acquisition down the road, yellow brick games mike laidlaws studio is 2yrs in at uust 22 employees…but…i follow casey hudson and humanoid, it is listed on linkedh at 55 plus employees a lot of bioware in his employees profile, top ones. Pau dutton is creative director. I believe mark darrah is in to could be wrong, but a year out they going to be what bioware should of been,i believe probably more sci fi than fantasy. I have always liked casey hudson, my fingers crossed we see an rpg beast company lol.

Their last acquisition was October 29th when they bought twohat a content moderation and profanity filter company. However, they have been acquiring more than one company a month they are at 13 total acquisitions just in 2021(without acquiring anyone until march mind you) and that’s not even counting the zenimax acquisitions that closed in 2021. So they have acquired more companies then we have had months this year. This is just going by the reporting date of the acquisition. Granted while you didn’t specify you are probably referring to gaming-related acquistions

They are definitely doing things. I don’t see why Harmonix would bring about this reaction and it’s not like anyone else in the gaming space is making significant acquisitions. I ask you to name a significant acquisition this year? Codemasters? a couple of mobile companies ea and take two bought, A couple of smaller indie studios got gobbled up by embracer group, Sony re-acquired a gaming studio filled with devs they previously got rid of, housemarque which only really made PlayStation games to begin with, a port studio in nixxes that specialized in porting games to PC? and another studio that specializes in remastering other peoples work?

If you really stop and think about what is being bought and sold the whole lot of them are about as noteworthy as Phil Spencer’s grocery list. They just don’t move the needle or have any bearing on the industry at large.

The only thing any of those moves accomplished was that some Twitter fanboys could rattle their sabers But the reality is none of those moves are even worthy of being a footnote when compared to ZeniMax acquisition.

It just seems like your patience is wearing thin as your wanting some big newsworthy headline like they acquired 10 game studios. When major deals don’t just happen every month or even every year. If they just wanted to buy people they could buy people without question. But as Phil and Matt have said it’s about buying the right people.

What would any studio that was bought by another company this year actually do that would benefit Microsoft beyond just increasing the number of studios they currently own? If you rationally think about that, you will have the answer to your question along with why they didn’t jump in with any of those companies acquired this year. And i say that not wanting to belittle anyone who works there or makes games there. As i have enjoyed games from many of those companies but it doesn’t mean I think Microsoft should buy them or it would be advantageous for them to own them.

i dont think its in that direction looks rather cold and scary…run sega before that site crashes on you as well. I could not get in tried several times.

wrong thread lol

People should definitely chill out, but not because they need to maintain faith and believe in future acquisitions or whatever. They should chill out because it actually doesn’t matter if they buy 0 companies ever again. Microsoft currently has a collection of studios that is both qualitative and quantitatively capable of justifying buying into their ecosystem and subscribing to game pass.

Sometimes in that kind of football team sense people get very excited by the prospect of an unending stream of exciting announcements and new acquisitions to crush all competition and declare total victory. But that’s unrealistic. The goal isn’t to crush PlayStation no matter the cost to bring joy to console war peeps. The goal is for Xbox and their broader ecosystem to be healthy and growing.

Its probably not gaming. Me is like es6, its not in full production till da releases. Most bioware staff on da atm.

Yeah, we’re off-topic…but I doubt Amazon is buying EA.

I didn’t realize this was even a concern… yeah, they’re not.
