It seems they could logically release Halo Infinite as a seperate free game on the App Store & Google Play, running via xCloud. But that will be them letting people use their XSX hardware and bandwidth for free without guarantee they’ll pay for mtx, so I don’t know how they will. Maybe they could sell ads between games loading and stuff, don’t know.
why not ? look at the Elden Ring hype, the success of Jedi faller order etc.
it would be “stupid” not to invest in this genre that is popular.
Souls like games have proved successful and appealing. People may not like the style but it is successful.
Is Jedi Fallen Order considered in that genre? Its not a game with much grinding or death? I can count probably on one hand my Deaths in that game.
Very light version of it
I’d always thought of it as an action adevnture game with some platforming, never thought of it as a souls game, what similarities are you drawing on (want to see what I’m overlooking)
Its literally a hybrid soulsborne (combat and such) and metroidvania game with the platforming, routes, etc.
can we return to topic? Also fyi xbox just announced for ultimate subbers 75days of crunchyroll premium
Sarah Bond says they’re approached all the time for acquisitions. I wonder how many times we’d be disappointed Xbox turned em away
- “Can we return to topic?” followed by an announcement of news completely unrelated to acquisitions. LOL
- Pretty loose definition of “just”
Phi listed FIFA and Fortnite as examples of casual games. CoD and GTA would also fit into that category. CoD can get deep but it is casual because when ppl that barely play games or only a few games those games are usually things like Minecraft/CoD/FIFA/etc.
No one is saying they are simple or easy games. They are just games that are so popular and the ones that immediately come to mind from someone that is only casually plays games.
I’d be more curious about how many of those talks turned into Global Publishing “tryout” deals!
Not enough.
With almost any PvP game you can play it casually or hardcore. This isn’t an insult to CoD. If anything it is a complement because it is so popular that casual gamers know it and play it. It is the same with Fortnite which Phil cited as an example of a casual game. Fortnite isn’t a simple or easy game. It is just a game that reaches casuals.
So by casual I think he just means the largest games in a way. The games he listed: Roblox, Minecraft, FIFA and Fortnite as examples are all colossal and well known.
Studio: hello Phil Spencer and Matt Booty, can you please acquire us
Phil & Matt: you gotta go through him first
Studio: him? who? what do you me
[Global Publishing enters the room]
Global Publishing:
They following the bouncer rule. The pretty people just go on through
Oh no you did not just imply IOI and Avalanche ain’t pretty how dare you
The bigger XGS gets, the more selective and patient they’ll be with acquisitions. In 2018 they were willing to take a gamble on somebody with no good track record like Compulsion. I don’t think we would see a similar feat repeated now that they already have enough studios to fill out the next few years reasonably well.
There’s no need to rush unless the psychological state of certain people ITT is one of Spencer’s KPIs.
