poor roberto . xbox fans already dont believe him . Now even PS fans will start to hate him for reporting this .
Publishing ≠ acquisition.
I was just referring to what he said about Bloomberg, not the new producer. Thought Bloomberg put out something spicy, but sounds like it’s a bit older.
My reply was to to the tweet he connected two irrelevant dots
I like this technique - all XGS heads shall henceforth be only ‘Matt’.
The only thing is if it was azure only it gathered more hype then wyen sony partnership was announced. Even rueturs did a story on this mentioning the acquisition rumours so they think its a big deal.
why does xbox have a studio in japan,am i missing something here…are they just a bunch of coordinators or are they making games over there to? I mean the fact that its referred to as a studio not a division?
Xbox Game Studios Publishing is their global publishing arm. So they do second party deals like Contraband with Avalanche, where they fund and publish the games of studios they don’t own. This guy is just the rep for Japan.
Have there been credible rumors of an possible acquisition of Sega? At the moment there doesn’t seem to be more to it. Sometimes announcements could and should be taken as face value.
No one here believes Sony is buying Kadokawa because of the partnership right?
no but rueturs probably mispelled is a creditible news agency and saw the partnership with sega as a big deal, in it they mentioned the acquisition rumours as well.
Haha. It’s becoming something of an antiquated term as it doesn’t happen much anymore. Contraband may actually be first party, I’m not sure.
It means a game where the platform holder has the publishing rights but not the IP.
So Ryse Son of Rome, Sunset Overdrive, those are second party games.
The Ori games, while made by a non-internal studio, still count as first-party as the platform holder owns both IP and publishing rights. This seems more common than second party deals these days.
Every deal is done for reason. you should look at a deal as who is getting what.
so far with the Sega - Microsoft alliance who is benefitting the most from this alliance? Sega, they are getting access to the microsofts cloud platforms, insight and technical knowhow to prove cloud based tools and expand work processes in a changing environment.
On the surface these are all things normally charged for in a standard B2B structured deal. MS isn’t doing a deal that they don’t ultimately get something out of. So if you have to look at what is their benefit? While it all still could fall apart. They appear to be “whining and dining” them. Giving them a few hits at free and/or discounted rates. As you butter them up a bit and get them psuedo integrated with your platforms so you can come back and say in a few years. This alliance has been great, look at how wonderful these tools have been. you have gotten x amount of success backed by MS and Azure platforms. Why don’t we just make this official.
If Microsoft pulls this off it will be an absolute masterclass in how you reel in a big catch. As all this is necessary as the Japanese Market has always been a little gun shy, a little reluctant to fully commit. Microsoft has brought a few Japanese companies all the way to the altar only for a last minute objection. This reads to me like they are giving them the full-court press.
As now not only do you have 200 Japanese teams potentially saying how great it is to work with Microsoft you have one of the biggest japanese publishers singing the praises as well.
So while you should take deals at face value sometimes I agree. But this deal is lopsided in favor in a way that you only do if you are looking to get something. As otherwise you just sign the deal. As the way this is structured Sega owes MS nothing other than what hte agreed upon payment was.
The sony deal while similar was structured more as an exchange of information and more meant for sony as a whole music, movie divisions etc. Yes PlayStation as well. But it was much more of a corporate deal. This sega deal is very hyper-focused. Very flowery.
Am I missing something? Do we actually know the terms of the deal? All I’ve seen is very vague statements about “strategic partnership” and “we can’t wait to talk more about this in the future.”
The march to 3 trillion continues. MS is at 2.5 right now.
Please no. Not this debate again.
Thats how many studios they should acquire
No they are not the same
Sony are first party, its not like that deal was going to lead to more, they are still a competitor, its not like its going to lead to more games coming to xbox
Even if you ignore that, the Sony and Sega partnership announcements are worded very differently, the Sega deal mentions all sorts of gaming aspects that werent mentioned at al with the Sony deal
Im not saying this is going to lead to all sorts of amazing stuff with Sega but comparing it to Sony’s deal doesnt make much sense
Iv already mentioned it elsewhere but at the bare minimum, it makes Sega have a much closer relationship with Xbox and inevitably will make it easier for various types of deals to be made in the future
You’re not missing anything because there’s not anything there.
Zhuge had a good thread about how gaming (or a certain segment of it) was transitioning to be much more technology-heavy, and that a deal like this is an indication that MS is a technology leader in the space and that MS/Xbox stand to profit off this position going forward.
To me I don’t see anything that indicates any kind of “first step” or similar towards an acquisition.
