Xbox Acquisition |OT3| 100% Organic Growth

Makes sense. It was a typo before but their games did get a litle stale and the cadence of their releases surely played a part in that.

Yeah, and their engine getting older with bad perfomances and gameplay got a bit stale past one or two titles. QTE just don’t do it anymore.

I hope they can find a way to make it more interactive. I think Dontnod with LiS have done what they didn’t.

Telltale stories and writing is top notch though. Their take on Batman was refreshing to say the least.

Could be an European studio during Gamescom to show that Xbox cares about Europe (they habe so much to do…)

Haha, good one.

I would be really shocked, anyway it’s good they are showing up while PS and Nintendo are not.

Mid August between Flight Sim/The Ascent and Psychonauts 2.

If an acquisition doesnt happen in August then I think it will be another September to remember.

Regarding Telltale games, I agree with Jeff Gerstman’s take around the time of the bankruptcy:

They don’t own any IP, and their engine is shit-tastic. Additionally, ever since the first Walking Dead it doesn’t seem like any of their games have done well commercially. So what’s the point in buying them?

Anyone can make one of “those” games, and since it seems like you’ll have to do a ground-up rebuild / rethink of the engine and game mechanics, you’re probably just as well-off spinning up your own small studio.

If I was Xbox, I’d consider approaching one of the studios that makes well-regarded visual novels, and work with them on a Telltale-style “visual novel plus.”

Oddball Acquisition List Just for Fun

  1. SmileGate: They’re pretty big in mobile gaming. Could help expand Xbox in that area and manage Korean efforts. If Smilgate made a Gacha game with Xbox characters with the quality of their game Epic Seven it would be insane. (5) [Epic Seven] Straze Preview - YouTube

  2. Shift Up: Another Korean developer this one has made multiple cool titles like Destiny Child which is Persona but for mobile devices. More importantly, they are making that Nier Automata like game. Like Genshin Impact, I think it’s a sign that these mobile games are really starting to become console quality games. (5) Project EVE - Boss Battle (GStar2020) - Shift Up - Console/PC - 4k - YouTube

  3. Dimps: These are the guys that literally brought the fighting game genre back from the dead. They developed Street Fighter 4 for Capcom. Why the hell hasn’t Capcom acquired these guys. They also made the Sonic Advanced games back in the day. These guys should really have someone backing them and making original corner. Good pick up not just for MS but for a studio like Capcom,Sega, Arc or Platnium.

  4. Super Giant Games: Hades, Transistor, Bastion so many great original IP’s I am surprised these guy aren’t the first people being looked up. These guys are on or above the level of Studio MDHR and Moon Studios. These guys produce high quality original content, something you don’t quite see in the industry because once a team finds one hit they stick with it for years.

Will these happen? Probably not. Just wanted to highlight some quality teams that exist outside of the NetherRealm IO bubble we keep seeing. I definitely see Super Giant and Shift Up becoming huge in the future.

Wait, have people been waiting for acquisitions each week since e3 . Historically almost all acquisitions were not predicted.

Maybe Crytek, since they’re from Germany.

But I was thinking, what if Microsoft bought Epic instead? And would that even make sense if they could expand Id Software tech team to develop a complete IdTech suite and license for anyone? I mean, they have Slipstream (which I think it won’t last), Unreal licenses, Creation Engine (yeah, messy to work) and now Id Tech. Most developers nowadays are following EA’s path of streamlining into one or two engines.

Forget about Shift Up, their games are ecchi and doubt that anyone except for Nintendo is that risque, I even tought for a second that Destiny Child was that korean mobile game that has aureola slips, literal AO rating grounds.

Wasn’t Nexon (Korean, yet domiciliated in Japan) up for sale once and the owner gave up?

I really love Dimps, some of my favorite fighting games were made by them. A guess what makes an acquisution hard for whoever might be interested is that bandai, sony and the studio head are the major shareholders.

Sony is aiming for Arc System Works but what if MS ends buying Arc instead?
