lmao
If you ask me there is only a small need of studios in fields, where Microsoft isn’t as strong as it could and should be.

Crystal Dynamics
-
IOI
-
Eidos Montreal
-
Crytek
-
Avalanche
-
WB
-
Sega
-
Capcom
-
T2
-
Sega
In my opinion, just 2-3 of these studios would be enough to complete XGS for the foreseeable future.
And one of this publishers would almost be overkill.
I put Sega in their twice for all the Sega Stan’s out there.
And they are for sure aren’t stopping. Was all speculation on Jeff’s part. We shouldn’t count it as a fact or even as something he has heard about.
i dont think any 1 publisher is an overkill cuz they r all r in different genre
My opinion is basically that Microsoft doesn’t know what they have yet. Not in a “wow so dumb” way, I mean literally, they do not yet have enough information to know how impactful Zenimax, or even companies dating back to Obsidian are going to be yet. Avowed will be the first true test of Obsidian as a Microsoft asset (Grounded was a nice surprise, but despite being somewhat popular isn’t earth shaking). Ninja Theory’s first major game is Hellblade 2. Both games are probably 2023 or even later.
Zenimax’ only impact on Microsoft so far has been their back catalogue being added to GamePass - which is indeed something that probably tipped a few people over to subscribing, but ultimately Redfall is the first exclusive product Microsoft will receive from them in any capacity, and that will come out (assuming no delays) 15 months after the acquisition was finalized. All eyes are on Starfield, expected more like 20 months after the acquisition was finalized. Again, assuming no delays.
They will obviously still be canvasing companies for sales and formulating theories and making projections. But they’ve gone over a year with no purchases before, between E3 2019 and September 2020 for the announcement of Zenimax. Long pauses to see how their subscription growth is going isn’t surprising at this point.
If it turns out that they’ve signed Right Of First Refusal deals with people like IOI for acquisitions, that would obviate the need to buy them in any near future. They could happily wait for those games to come out without worrying about someone grabbing them first. Independently of whether or not they buy anybody, they should be looking to accelerate publishing. A game is a game, they will own it forever, regardless of whether the developer eventually goes elsewhere.
Last year they announced Bethesda acquisition right before preorders, would there be another strategic day to do it this year if they have some to announce?
dont think so …its jus some deal do take time even if they r holding something i think best day to announce that would xbox 20th anniversary
I honestly don’t think they are announcing or working on any acquisitions. Closest opportunity would be game awards but that would be filled with updates on HellBlade and Avowed or the Kojima deal will be announced there.
We could also see project MARA, Dealer seems to think that will release in 2022.
You’re probably right, but I’d think if they Don’t announce it by December it will take another year ll
I go with the opinion that Microsoft want to see the results of Zenimax before they spend more billions of dollars.
That’s just typical Microsoft, they approach cautiously and that’s why all companies beat them to the punch. Because they don’t want to take risks.
Just to get this straight. You think they are not working on a single acquisition at the moment?
Why would they ramp up the M&A team? Just letting them chill in the nice office? Why all the comments that they keep looking and expanding? And why the comments about that they think about acquisitions, in unusual places like India.
You keep spouting incorrect information as if they’re facts
Because they saw the surge in subscribers numbers when Zenimax was announced. As for the M&A team. I’m not really knowledgeable so I don’t know.
All I’m saying it is very much not MS to go in with full force for a vision. Saw them do it in windows, saw them do it in hardware ( Surface devices ) and now it’s Xbox turn to prove the viability of their vision even though their vision needs more investment and risk taking to be achieved. Classic Microsoft.
I never said they were facts, I said I go with “the opinion”.
I have been a Microsoft fan forever. I owe windows all of my technical knowledge. And if I know anything about MS, they are the first to doubt their strategies.
We are far from full force. Are you just going to ignore, that we have information that Microsoft was in the race for studios, that got bought by other publishers?
We know for sure they almost bought gearbox
That’s a rumor and from what was told, they wanted Randy out because of his major legal issues, he didn’t want to.
Sabre interactive and also Housemarque as far as I know.
Geez this thread, all this gloom and doom. This going to be a fun place before and after the game show awards. I thought xbox had a wonderful show. I have been with xbox 5 or 6 years. Its like they passed out of capsizing almost to full throttle and its amazing…cant wait for more, and can see the sun over the horizon…a forza one lol.
More like you’re saying about Ballmer era which was a guy who took late in trends, starts to chase it and fails because they didn’t understand the market and were too late where the X trends they were after were dead, no wonder why the company barely moved up in his 15 year term and had his final years in a stream of failures (Zune, Nokia, Widows 8, Xbox One), the company has never been more agressive than ever under Satya.
