Shitposting memes aside, I’m making fair points here.
Microsoft needs to go grass-roots here with the acquisitions and go back to smaller studios instead of focusing on the larger size deals.

They bought the EVO…they now are bidding for Arc Sys Works ATM we are debating the warner case…The only option MS could afford is Netherealm
Based on what fuckin’ Dealer Gaming said and literally nobody else.
I think that they need at least one fighting studio, Killer Instinct is a franchise way too big to be dead.
Now this is a massive colossal reach only spouted by radical xbox fans.
They can de both at the same time. Actually we don’t even know if they are pursuing big scale acquisitions or smaller scale acquisitions, it’s all speculation at the moment.
In tournaments like the EVO, KI is one of the titans…MS really needs a Fighting studio if they want to fight back the purchase of the EVO by Sony
While true, everything that has been HINTED at by insiders, even our very own XboxERA staff and contributors, make it seem like Microsoft is more interested in the larger scale acqusitions/teams instead of a 30-person team who can deliver something like The Ascent.
Which is a bad call.
You can grow Neon Giant into the the next Naughty Dog easily. You just can’t easily buy the independent equivalent of Naughty Dog. Not with everyone else sniffing around out there.
Microsoft has been talking with a lot of studios. Any studio that is talking with Tencent is likely also talking with Embracer Group and Microsoft and likely Sony. Does it guarantee they will be acquired by Sony or Microsoft – no. It doesn’t even mean they would be fully acquired by Tencent or Embracer Groups. It could end up with just partial investments. It could also end up with no investments at all.
Imagine it being a bit like the TV reality series Shark Tank.
Microsoft doesnt need to fight back that. Evo is a platform/tournament and they dont produce any games so I dont get your argument in the slightest.
You can outsource K.I via XGPS and dont need to drop the money on a whole studio to do it. Also have read numerous times from fighting fans that Netherealm is a terrible fit for KI.
I don’t think so. If Perfect Dark was big enough to get a reboot, so is Killer Instinct.
Using third party deals to make Killer Instinct is a bad idea, look how the Iron Galaxy thing turned out. They should be made by a first party studio.
Perfect Dark is a beloved FPS made during Rare’s Golden Era. It’s being rebooted by a dream team of some of the top talent in the industry. Perfect Dark remains an incredibly influential FPS/Immersive Sim still talked about today.
The other is Killer Instinct, which is only talked about Killer Instinct fans, most of whom you could count on a single hand with missing fingers
Killer Instinct II Reboot is at a “Knack 3” or “The Order 1887” level of meme.
Besides, didn’t Double Helix have like ZERO back ground making fighting games when they made KI Season One?
No idea why you just can replicate that again with another studio.
I mean really, what is Iron Galaxy up to these days?
I dont think so…since Midway(Now NR Studios) was one of the Publisher for KI and helped to make the arcade port of the game…
This why I love you Prog
Look, they point I’m trying to make here is this:
A fighting game studio and E-Rated studio would be nice, but latching onto this “TT/Netherrealm” or bust is bad if you ask me (you didn’t).
Double Helix made KI Season One, Playful made SLT. There exists companies you can hire to make your games for you.
Would it be better to own those companies? Probably!
But if Microsoft is seriously waiting for Discovery-Warner to merge so they could buy Netherrealm/TT off of them while great smaller scale oppurtunites could possibly pass them buy, then that’s a no from me dog.
You can find companies to make fighting and kids games easily without having to own them.
But Embracer and Tencent are quickly staking claims to whatever emerging and available talent out there. It’s time to focus on securing NOW with real possibilities in front of them instead of this Warner-Discovery 'Will They/Won’t They" Ross/Rachel bullshit.
NOW, I’m done.
considering that it was one of the first games to introduce the mechanics of “parry attack” (combo breaker), whose control system is the most fluid of its time and on top of that it became a real rival for MK in the arcades to say that it has few fans it’s like saying “xbox has no games”
You are making an extreme false equivalent here.
I’m just saying on my personal list of immediate reboots needed by Microsoft, Killer Instinct is on the list, but not that high.
Bring back Starlancer/Freelancer you cowards!
I agree. Starlancer needs a comeback
